Hey, I’ve been thinking in some specific things…
I read somewhere that Tree of Savior wanted to be a social game. And I would like too!
This is a comparison with Ragnarok Online but primarly the effect of the game on its players.
I’ve played a few games before but RO is the most notable between them on these things I want to talk about.
I’ve been kinda sad with the players interaction in this game.
Problem:
When I’m grinding or doing some quests, ok! Most of the people accepts the party request. I can call this a success. Because on most games people prefer to solo since it is more comfortable to talk to anyone.
My complain is about the interaction in the cities. And the culprit is the marketplace. In fact, the marketplace is guilty for many of my complains I’m about to say.
“Why?”. Well. Let us say you want to buy a legendary item. You could try to drop it somewhere or you go to the marketplace. You simply teleport to the city, go to the marketplace, type the item name and then you see lots of “legendary” items. you can order by the lowest price and buy it. Not so thrilling.
You don’t need to talk to anyone. You don’t bargain with anyone. You don’t know from who you bought it. You just became another standing player near the market npc for a few moments. As soon you finish buying you go somewhere.
Well, in RO, If I wanted to buy a legendary item, I had to, first, find the seller that had it. Once I found it, I could bargain with him/her. Well, it could take some days to find the sellers in the many cities it had. I could get tired and sat somewhere to talk with my friends in the normal chat. (The cities were bigger, then everyone had a preferred spot). This way was worse if you just wanted the item… But it would increase the value that you would give to the item if you got it.
In ToS you can bargain… But It is weird. You trade talts (I don’t know yet if this is supposed to be a currency, since you normally get 3 a day. No, I’m pretty sure it wasn’t supposed to be a currency).
People where always walking through these cities, trying to find the item they wanted or a good deal.
Oh my… Good deals… The merchant dream to find something at low price that could be sold by a high price.
We cannot do this on ToS since almost every item gets “spoiled” after you buy it. But I know why they do it. It is because the marketplace. Where you can easily find all the selling items. You could buy all of them and then sell by a higher price. This way rich players would get richer. If there wasn’t a marketplace, people would find difficult to “control” one specific item.
What I would want:
- It would be cool if every player could create its own shop and sell things (I don’t see the need to have a merchant class for this)
- End with the marketplace
- Permit silver trading
- Remove the 1:1 trade limit
- Remove the untradable system
- Potential is cool to prevent the item to be eternal. This is good.
What are the problems to achieve this:
Well, I’m certain that It would be a pain if I had to go through all the channels to find the right shop. A way to solve this is by improving a lot the performance of the game and making cities way bigger. As well as reducing its channels… 2-3 channels I think it would be ok… But It would be annoying.
The perfect thing would be 1 channel on cities (remove the 100 players cap) and make more wide spaces… I’m pretty sure people would be much more spread than being clustered on the market npc (Nowadays, no walks through 60% of fedimian [or more]).
Considering that ToS might have much more players in one area than RO, since there are fewer cities at the moment, the cities should be much bigger than they are now.
In a list, the problems of having this implemented could be this:
- Make cities bigger
- Remove the channels and player cap (on cities)
- Improve performance
- Implement all these changes
- Rethink many things
Another great problem:
The way i’m saying, I’m pretty sure that the game would be much more fun and thrilling… But much more vulnerable to RMT than the actual one.
The marketplace is a good way to difficult the RMT and I think it was a good move.
I don’t have any good suggestion this afair.
Conclusion
I would like the game to be better, I think that those are good suggestions but everything is a trade. The changes I’m proposing could make the game worse if there’s no other way to resolve the botting/RMT. But certainly more thrilling.
And it would take a looong time to make this since the game already have a type of economy. Changing it would take months of development.
###What do you guys think?
I might be forgetting something important.
And before someone start saying “This is not RO” (I’m sure ppl will say for the lols), I want ToS to be better than RO, which has its flaws and in my opinion is unplayable nowadays. As I said earlier, I’m just pointing some effects that some game mechanics had on its players
