Falcon and Hunter Pets

Quick question, do these pets auto attack when you auto attack or are they only skill based pets?

For example, if I want my pet to attack I have to click skill, then location.

Or will they attack when I auto attack?

I remember back in the day when I use to play iRO when you went the hunter and you auto attacked your bird would also swoop down and auto attack at the same time. I love that feature and was curious if it was the same on ToS as I would had to it rank 7 falconer and it be not what I was expecting .

Ground pets will perform auto-atk while falcon(hawk) will not help any sh!t.

Auto-attack Pet(Ground Pet) are worst than non auto-attack pet(Bird pet) since while they are auto-attacking your hunter skill wont do anything (get CD and lose Mana for free)(Hope they will fix this soon).
Pet will auto-attack the first hostile enemy.
Auto-attack pet’s DPS are extremely low.

There were a skill name “rush dog” that like was like “Blitz” in RO but they removed the Auto-Rushdog function long ago. So no Auto-Blitz like RO hunter.

They auto-attack, and depending on if you’re using pointing or not–it will also run around like a giant derp.

That being said, the companion AI is buggy but once you figure out the general issue of the pet’s listening/attack ranges it becomes easier to control.

But seriously, try not to use pointing unless you have to. They go nuts.

Not sure about the bird because I don’t have one yet. Gimmie a few weeks, then I’ll be posting a guide on hunter & falconer and what not with all the info I’ve found as well as gathered from other hunters. At least I hope to, unless I run into some sort of class breaking skill issue.

…and at times just attack random sh!t like traps and tree crystals. Horrendous AI.

I wonder if someone’s going to make a summon AI add on. I don’t know if that’s even possible, since I’m not one of the people around here who can script/code/dowhateverdevilsmagic it takes to make add ons.

=A= where’s Azzy when needed?

That’d be cool. If only add-on makers have enough interest in the class, they might.

Well, I’m not sure IMC would allow it–that’s the issue. Or that it could be done through an add on.

then what add-on it would be?

I’m not sure what you mean. We’re just speculating about the possibility of making one, I think. o.o

Wonder if some sort of whitelist for the pet would be possible for specific mobs if nothing else…?

i see.
i’m still learning to speak English so my words may misleaded. sry.

It’s easy to misread English. I teach it, it’s a rough language!

I’m leveling an Archer2-Hunter3-Falconer2 at the moment.

Currently Archer 2-Hunter2. At first I was kind of optimistic and then I was near suicidal but now I’m back to being optimistic about it.

It’s kind of a roller coaster of realizations regarding the pets AI, what skills are useful and how the class plays.

My views so far

Skills:

-Keep rush dog at 1 or 5. It scales horribly and is based off of your pets damage, not yours. It has a nice AoE but it’s going to give out on you pretty early.

-Coursing , Snatching and Retrieve are all amazing. Early on they won’t be as good as Rush Dog because of Rush Dogs 5 second CD and AoE but eventually Snatching will solo bosses for you, Coursing will solo single target enemies and Retrieve is great in PVP.

Pet AI:
The pet is kind off dumb. Dumber than old RO homunculus if that’s believable. He will bug out the most in dungeons (where you need him most) and has trouble with the terrain some times. Early on I put a point into Pointing because I needed it to unbug him, but I found if you just press F9 and unsummon him and then resummon him, it’s usually enough to unstick whatever got stuck in the AI. Issues in dungeons usually come up from using Coursing more than once.

It attacks random stuff and some times I’ve rush dogged the boss, only for it to hit traps around the boss. It’s dumb.

Stats:
Right now I’m not too sure what to do with my stats because I want to eventually PVP with this character. Going 1str:3dex with eventual CON investment. You do spam skills a lot though and eat through your sp but everyone does that I think.

Edit: Add-ons.

I would love to see an Add-on that just resets the pet AI back to non-aggressive, like a blank slate after I’ve issued a command. The issue with the pet is once you’ve told it do coursing and it can’t course the target, it freaks out. Would be great if there was a button (THAT WASN’T POINTING!!!) that would set the pet back to normal.

Pet AI is horrible and it work around the concept of Command box. Every character in ToS has a Command box (basically a rectangle right in front of the character) that is used to determine auto-targeting or enemy focusing.

Companions in ToS use this same box to determine targets for all hunter skills, and usually the closer the target is the better chances it has to be targeted. Traps and monsters share the same priority when it comes to targeting, so if a trap is closer to you it is more likely to be auto-targeted by any of your pet skills.

On another matter, Rush dog, coursing and snatching seems to benefit from the Rush dog’s stun attribute, which is odd and clearly a bug.

I don’t really understand why they forced hunters to use the same Companion system as other classes. Hunter should be built around pets and having unique companions.
