Exp Progression

Note to you that people are just giving feedback. Leveling process / scaling, exp rate is one of the game-play related issues which testers are supposed to give feedback to the developers if they feel something is wrong with it. I deeply wish you stop throwing your nonsense opinions around, at least people tried to explain their points, you provide no point but being a jerk for not getting into the beta. At least these people have a much better standing in their opinions than you because they actually tested the game at its current state and tried to explain what in their mind in a logical way instead of just bashing others like you are doing. Stop pulling facts out of your own mouth, “these types of MMORPGs”, what are these types of MMORPGs you are talking about? This isn’t about ToS being a grindy game, the problem is the grinding currently is wrong as explained in many other posts.

From one of his post:

Not a beta tester. Oh well back to my empty life with no purpose.

Just because I’m not a beta tester doesn’t make all these EXP rate complaints any less ignorant.
“These types of MMORPGs”? You know, like Ragnarok Online? An MMORPG that’s held dear to the hearts of many ToS fans, an MMORPG that isn’t WoW or a ■■■■■■■ WoW clone that most people seem so used to nowadays.

I am a former RO player, a lifetime fanboy of the game. I grinded my ass off back in the day and it was enjoyable, but this isn’t the case in ToS, this feels just wrong. If you actually tried the game maybe you will feel the same as me, but it was unlucky that you couldn’t so please try to listen others’ points and opinions. People including me have tried to explain why this is a problem, I don’t want to repeat it. I am very tired and sleepy right now and it feels just so frustrating reading your post, maybe you should try to read this guy’s opinion.

I can agree with that at least as he brings up good points but I won’t take back my earlier post about the OP being a WoW babby.

You take back whatever or not is up to you. What you need is to be reasonable in discussion, try to discuss not bashing people. There are a lot more problems with this grinding which can destroy the game but they are hard to explain if you don’t experiment it first hand.

For example, because the grind being forced on players too early on where skills are very limited, all the skills which aren’t good for grinding will become useless. If players up these skills they won’t have enough offensive power for grinding, parties won’t even want to take you because you are so useless. These skills maybe useful in PVP or specific circumstances but to reach these contents you have to face an abysmal grind-fest first and to grind you have to abandon these skills. Ain’t that paradoxical? So basically these skills being there at this state is just for show, it is a waste of contents.

Anyone here being a WoW “fanboy” or anything ain’t their wrong, it’s just like us being RO “fanboys”. We have our right to compare ToS to RO, they have their full right to compare ToS to WoW or any other game as long as it means to explain their points in the good will of wanting for ToS to be a better game. ToS isn’t RO, why it’s fine for you wanting ToS to be something more like RO and it’s wrong for him to want ToS to learn a thing or two from WoW?

And no, I can’t see a single thing about WoW in OP post. Stop being so self-righteous.

Sorry for longed winded posts, I am quite sleepy and tired right now. (Well actually all of my posts are long winded though).

  1. As a former RO player, as one of the game’s lifetime loyal fanboy who grinded hours upon hours just for a few percent of EXP, I am very used to grinding, yet I still feel like the grinding of ToS at this state is bad. In all of the problems I have encountered in the game till now like bugs, unfinished translation and lag, the grinding is the worst for me. Not only because I personally don’t like the grind but I think about many people who will leave the game thinking ToS is nothing special, just another generic grind-fest based MMORPG because of the grind so early on, hinders them from reaching the real interesting contents. In RO, the slow level processing makes players wandering around, meeting other people, creating their own adventures so grinding was fun, at least it blended well into the game contents. In ToS, with this grindy process, everything just feel so limited, you can’t do anything beside grinding. Everyone is the same, DPS types trying to kill monsters as fast as possible in the same places. There ain’t that variety of character types which is the main selling point of ToS, not before this hellish grind.

  2. I already though about this point about how people don’t have that much experience in the game yet before actually “complaining” about the EXP rate on here but the problem is that the grind makes the game not as enjoyable as it should be. It’s not all about slow or fast, it’s about players’ enjoyment, if the leveling process is slow but enjoyable then everyone will still be happy but it’s not, rather it hinders the real enjoyment from the game selling contents. In RO, you always have an option of wandering around, exploring the world as early as you started playing, you can find your own favorite maps for leveling, this isn’t the same in ToS!

You may want to read peek427 and other people’ thoughts on this problem to have a better understanding on what problem they are actually talking about…

/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Actually compared the grind of ToS and RO, I feel it’s much worse and less rewarding in ToS. As many have said, this game is not like RO, don’t assume that it has all the qualities that makes RO a good game with its grind-fest.

I want to believe that anyone who supports this grind-fest on the forum are actually people from competitive companies of IMC, people who just want to see ToS fail!

You’ve made a few good points, and I agree with you on some of them.

For your first point, you definitely have a case for the grind being ‘just there’, and I feel like its a victim of the game’s incomplete state. It certainly can drag on before a player can really develop their character, but I don’t think it will be an issue once the beginning grind is studied and made manageable, from there it’s really in the Devs hands to fill out the grind. Like I’ve said before, the grind should stay but it should be the best grind it can be, and if we had more posts pointing out what could make the grind better rather than just impatient whining and Themepark riders crying like spoiled children, I’d be a much happier camper.

For the latter, its really more of the same. I only wish the other complaints could be as articulate as yours. Unfortunately, an overwhelming number of the complaints about the grind have been petulant, or outright demanding cries for a removal of the grind. Someone saying the phrase “this is 2015 not 2005. The majority of people don’t like it taking several months of leveling at least 6 hours a day to get max level, this is 2015 not 2005!!!” isn’t particularly helping any criticism of the grind itself.

At the end of the day, I can certainly say I’d been happy with the progression as it is thus far, and that if the content itself were expanded upon it’d be even better. As more areas and content open up, I’m sure we’ll see a return to the exploration and enjoyable, cozy progression we’ve seen in much beloved titles.

Personally I see these as the minority of posts. Maybe some just find its hard to convey their points, maybe they aren’t really good at English or whatever reason. The majority of people I see here are giving feedback about how grinding like this is wasting the selling contents of the game, that they don’t mind grinding but it better not hinder players’ enjoyment.

Also giving feedback isn’t the same as purely complaining. IMC asked people to test their game and give feedback including things about game-play so people just do that, they were asked to. Those feedback are opinions, yes, but they aren’t unreasonable. If there are this many people complaining then it’s safe to assume that there may be something wrong. And if you smell something wrong early, you better start investing in it early.

You are aware that this game apparently goes up to level 500, right?

i was refering to 90%

personally i have no complain when this game have slow exp progression, since this game main focus are adventure, exploration, etc.

it might be better if the dev gives us more option for the Titles.

i think that’s fine about low rate exp. cause when you do grinding, you can meet new friends in game, and that’s make this game more fun rather than “solo hunting from lvl 1 - max in a week”. i have been playing hardcore grind mmo, and that’s really-really fun.
that’s just my opinion XD
note: sorry about my english :3

at least you guys are lucky i wish i can play i didn’t get the beta key sadly :frowning:

ItzNiko is right … there is no way to lose so much time of your life only grinding… the game must have more diversity . The time of grinding is gone… ToS needs more Dungeons . more party quests …where the dificult is hardcore … but the xp and the drop is beautiful

i was thinking the same, it is low for a beta. i wished there were more quest to lv up

At about level 35, the EXP progression for myself just dropped dead. This is something that really needs to be addressed.

Ragnarok Online was made 15 years ago. Back then, you could get away with a heavy grind because there really wasn’t anything else on the market back then.

Look at the success of popular western MMOs like WoW, FFXIV, TESO, etc. They all have a very non-grindy way of leveling which is through questing. They also strive to be non-linear.

Any random MMO to come out of Korea or China or wherever that involves P2W bullshit like buying EXP multiplier cards and that sort of thing to make a painful grind less painful… simply have no place in the western market. And the game will be doomed to fail if this sort of thing is allowed.

I know it’s early into beta, but I would implore the devs to stray away from a heavy grinding-focused MMO. It’s the quickest path to failure in the western markets today. And I’d hate to see RO’s successor fall to the same thing that’s killed a lot of cool-looking MMOs over the years.

I’m really enjoying the level curve for this game at the current rate. If you focus on team play, the difference in reward cards and grind becomes negligible because you end up steamrolling all the fights. Between 30 and 40, assuming you party, you should be able to do a level an hour. Assuming you keep going with the content and do all the quests and kill everything in your path.

Sorry eushisu but not all games need to be casual quest treadmill. WoW was grindy in vanilla, did you play FFXI or lineage 2 ? Best games were heavy grind based. RO was never about endgame and i think ToS will be same.
ToS will be doomed if it will be another casual quest crap like 99% of mmo today. Because casuals most of the time ding max level and move to another crap mmo.
And if you think that you can lvl to 500 in one month then i think you should already move to another game.
