[Event] The Master's Unit Auto-Matching

With the patch on 9/19, the Master’s Unit daily event dungeon will now auto match characters within a maximum 20 levels.

I am very disappointed in this change. Whereas before, I could complete all the daily dungeons on my seven characters very quickly, now I am sitting in queue for up to 10-25 minutes on some of my characters.

I believe the rewards from the cubes and the time saved by not sitting in queue are more valuable than the exp gained by auto-matching. And if I wanted the exp from this dungeon, I can do this dungeon solo with Pardoner buffs no problem up to level 240. Time is the most important resource that I am always short on, and once again I want to say that I am very sad about this update.

If you could ask the players what their opinions are during your September 21 GM meeting, perhaps you’ll get a more balanced view on this issue. And hopefully the consensus persuades you to revert the auto matching changes back to how they were before the 9/19 patch.

Thank you for reading.

That’s just pure selfishness here.
Tell me, if you don’t need the exp and can do it easily/quickly with pardoner buffs, why don’t you “match 2 to 4 players” ? Or why don’t you solo it ? I call bs if you tell me after 240+ it gets too difficult.
A lot of players complained about it because this event was advertized as the one that gives the best exp ever and yet they had no way to queue and get exp, constantly being queued with high level players like yourself.
If I don’t care about exp, I solo it. If I do care, I queue. That’s the basis for most instances.
And no, a low level characters without a lot of skills cannot necessarily solo it, and anyway you get exp from queueing with others, not entering solo.

Anyway, queues are always bound to the characters’ level. And this event was meant to give players exp. The fact a level 100 could end up with a 330 was a bug that is now fixed, period.

Thank you for your reply and I appreciate hearing your side of the argument. Although, I’m having trouble understanding your thoughts clearly with your present tone of anger.

At higher levels, Pardoner buffs don’t scale as well as they do in the early levels. The bosses have so much hp that the hit counts of Blessing expire. At level 295, soloing the event is very difficult to the point of failure as my blessing wears off after the werewolf.

The bonus exp gained by queuing as a party versus soloing is slight. Soloing is still a great means of exp and possible with a 5 minute clear up to approximately level 240, depending on class, as I have mentioned and tested personally with my level 50-240 sorcerer, SR, and QS.

I want to clarify that the dungeon was advertised as giving the most exp out of all the previous event dungeons, not regular dungeons. Exp from regular dungeons give a lot more exp than this dungeon.

With a game like ToS that is not afraid of change, how can you say that queues are always bound to character levels? No one can know for sure if the previous design was intentional or not until we get an official press. Take note that the change to the event was not listed under the Bug section but under the Event section - which might make more sense but would still not discredit the possibility of a developer error.

I want to reiterate my point in that if auto matching was reverted back to how they were before, players like me who have 7 characters, which 6 of those I am not leveling, can finish their daily event dungeons and obtain all the event rewards quickly without spending unnecessary time in queue. Which side would benefit the most?

Now, instead of being grumpy online here, we can be collaborative and think of creative solutions to problems like this. One proposal that would appease both sides would be to implement two separate queues. “Auto match with nearest levels” and “Auto match with all”. I don’t know the details behind the programming here, but if a UI change is too difficult, perhaps a pop up asking for “Would you like to queue with players around your level?” Is utilized, you could flag people into different queues without having to change the UI and it would be possible to apply this queueing mechanism to select events in the future.

What do you think about that idea Goldie?

  • Asking a bug not to be fixed isn’t the right way to go.
    BUT
the mistake was done by imc, telling us the event gives the best exp above every mission.
this is completely false as the experience given by Siaulai mission or Catacombs is better than the event mission (dungeons obviously are better)
If the mission had given us the promised amount of experience, this auto-matching patch would have been fine.
Again, the mission is basically run only for the cubes and badge, therefore on a not-so-populated server (like Fedimian) players started to create parties of every level.

  • I tried the mission solo with Ele3Warlock and Qs3F3: on the first character the blessing buff stays for the entire mission, while with quarrel shooter it lasts only for 3 bosses. Doing the mission solo vs Poata and Netherbovine is kinda painful due to the poor knockdown mechanic of these two.
I normally match 2 to 4 and wait for a second (or third) guy

Imc just needs to introduce 2 different que’s, one with and one without level restriction.
