Drop System Reworked - Fully Implemented

We’re getting the full system with this maintenance:

Description of the new drop system:

#Item Drop System Improvements

Until now, materials and other items dropped by monsters in TOS can be obtained based on a system known as “counting drop”, which allows items to drop after a character has defeated a certain number of the same type of monster. The system isn’t perfect yet, but we believe the new formula to be a little more reasonable and appealing to players.

Current DPK System

In the current system, the DPK value is defined by a random number between a predetermined minimum and maximum values. For example, if a monster’s minimum DPK value is 900 and its maximum DPK value is 1,100, a random number between 900 and 1,100 is generated. When a player defeats that number of monsters, the item drops, and after it’s dropped once, a new random number is generated under the same principle, continuing the cycle.

Revised Top-Down DPK System

The revised system combines DPK and drop rates in the following formula:

1 / (set DPK value – current no. of monsters defeated)

This means that, if a monster’s DPK value is 100, every time you defeat one monster the drop rate will change from 1/100 to 1/99, to 1/98 and so on. In other words, there’s a chance the monster will drop the item even before you defeat 100 of them.

Here, too, the DPK value is reset every time the item drops.

[details=Original Post]It looks like the recent update has reworked the drop system. Much of, perhaps all of the DPK items have been modified to no longer drop through DPK. The information is still being entirely discovered but the initial signs seem promising. So far I’ve seen many if not all items in Barha Forest drop without DPK, and it seems some of the Orange mats and new items from Hunting Grounds do as well. The entire system could be reworked, or just certain maps and items, either way, it’s a great step forward. The KTEST server had been pioneering a reworked system, so I’d assume we received a version similar to that.

Thanks IMC, this was desperately needed and you took care of it.

If any Staff want to confirm that’d be appreciated. /Seek

Such an important update but why no announcement???

patch notes didnt mention drop-mekanism changes.

not sure if staff allowed to speak or knowledgeable about drop-system

its a ninja/hidden-feature

if imc dont admit to it, we cannot blame imc
(though various sources, like ktos talk-talk, admit the flaw already)

tldr, staff little squid aka letitia, if u may, please verify @Queue’s claim.

thank you

Good question. Maybe because it will be altered in the future, or IMC is concerned about releasing specifics on the drop mechanics due to potential abuse. Either way it’s a welcome change.

I wouldn’t be surprised, it took a long time for them to confirm DPK too.

The ipf files we got yesterday contain items on kTEST server as well. Not sure if it is intended to bring DPK changes on iTOS or just a mistake from dev. I will try to hunt yellow caro and confirm later :grinning:

Good try it out, the more information the better. It is possible only certain items and locations were changed, though I’m seeing that as unlikely.

on Terms of Service, are we even allowed to look into .ipf?

so manually disect .ipf for info is allowed now?

if we are not allowed to touch .ipf, then why is addon allowed at all?

sorry for off topic

but im not sorry for pointing imc hypocrisy on these aspect ( misinformation patch notes/ allowing access to .ipf / allowing addon to exist at all)

You can’t prove I looked at anything! :cold_sweat:

In seriousness, there is a problem with clarity. The Terms of Service, patch notes, even the forum rules could be more precise. In regards to patch notes, I’m okay with some things being vague, much of the fun of MMOs is discovering information and sharing it with the community, but IMC is definitely too vague sometimes.

You are not restricted to view ipf files just to know what is new. However if you modify those files and put them back to the game client, you will violate Term of service.

Addons, as IMC said, is the grey zone. For now, they still allow players to use it as long as it is not a harmful addon.

There are some changes that seems to be allowed such as or even addons in the past:

But yeah, grey zone.

the fact .ipf is accessible is like the bank safety vault door is open wide.

u can peek at the dollars but no touchy.

right?

(i wanna use porno analogy coz seeing is not a crime , but bank analogy will do)

indeed, some of my friends modified ipf files to change the color of xmas costumes LoL. And I’m sure some ppl here also modified ipf files to get the new JP voice pack.

This game files is unsecured. It is too easy to view and edit. Everyone knows this.

I prefer having steam workshop so everyone can download verified addons without worrying than downloading addons from 3rd sources but I doubt IMC has enough manpower to do this. However IMC is taking control of their files since many addons become useless after updates.

Actually they are just updating code and some/most addons requires specific codes to do some things they do. If they change some code paths, arguments, move codes to another file or refactor something addons are easily broke. The safer ones are those which relies on events instead of hooks or the lucky ones to hook stable and non-changing functions. In the end, this have nothing with IMC securing their code or not.

Are we required to swell every rank 8 mobs now to get the 2x drops?
I saw someone had to kill 800+ monsters on HG but still no luck to get the 220 dagger. We probably have gotten that 0.001% drop rate in exchange of DPK.

In all honesty, it’s more easy to abuse under DPK than the % random drop imo, specially if it is individual (other players kill doesn’t influence your drop chance).

Blame Google Translator for not helping IMC properly communicate, lets all sue Google for a bad tool. LOL

if you want to farm items, better come with your own team or farm alone, not random exp farming in hunting grounds. btw, kill count includes both your kill count and your teammates kill count so maybe that dude didn’t kill 800 mobs, he was just leeching.

idk if gears in hunting grounds are based on DPK or just drop chance since I got few trash gears in 210 after killing serveral mobs. Anyway, good luck!

If I bring someone with me it only means i have to share my loots. Group farming shoudnt be a requirement because some people want to do it alone.

someone who is willing to give you that dagger if it comes to his pocket, i mean. But group hunting is faster if that dagger is based on DPK.

I havent gone to HG yet, if the dagger were in DPK it also means you can manipulate it to drop twice. I dont know, but seems like some people got the dagger in less than 500? or 800? so high chance it was indeed random drop.

It’s most likely the former reason I mentioned, but the latter one could have somewhat influenced it too.

This always confuses me about IMC, plenty of the Staff have a complete working knowledge of English, so I don’t know how some of the errors make their way through. But then again, I’m an English speaking Canadian and my grammar is (very) far from perfect. :stuck_out_tongue:
