Downtimes, Grind and why I dont appreciate it

So, after playing ToS, I’ve decided I will not play the game if the similar design concepts for mana, combat and downtime are maintained going forward. My main gripe is the resource system in this game and how there is so much downtime and overall blocked pacing, that I find not enjoyable.
I feel I will be called casual by many, and certainly this is true, I am a casual player, simple fact.
As said, my main gripe with the mana, while playing as a Wizard, is the fact that if i cast energy bolt 9 some odd times, im out of mana, even if im following a 2:1 ratio of int to spirit. There is no combat regen, you are forced to pay money to use a basic resource to play the game, lest you be stuck auto attack for 10 damage on a boss for 5 minutes. I would imagine cast the spells and running around with auto attacks while you regen mana or wait for cooldowns, that is seems like an acceptable play style, however, casting the spell only a few times and then being out of playability forever unless your rest in combat or spam mana potions i find as a simple boring and over complification in micro management, especially for earlier on gameplay. If you are going to require a system of over utilizing a resource or item, simply integrate it as part of the combat, such as combat regen, or less mana consumption/larger mana pool.
Overall being unable to use my flashy spells is pretty much the main problem, it feels boring, restricted and far too grindy, If im in the grind, i want to be enjoying flashy lights and active spell use to distract me from the monotony, spam mana pots, sitting, and auto attacks to further the point my progress isnt getting anywhere fast.

Spamming mana pot is quite normal for many mmorpg. The real problem is that the mana regen by potion often couldn’t kept up with your spam.

Also, swordsman outdamage you by normal attack if you are not a swordsman.

Your problem is this… It’s not a game for wow players. It is a grindy korean game that is what a lot of us want. Get your negative make it easier to level rubbish off the forums. K thanks bye.

@daveeeee there’s no need to be so dicky about it.

@scwigoth the simple fact is this isn’t a WoW game, and it’s certainly not fast paced. But it’s also not a simple grinding game either. It’s hard to explain but it has what MMOs have failed to have for the last 8-10 years, it’s sort of a world of it’s own. You take your time, you climb the ladder over time you grow slowly, but all the while you’re not doing the same thing. Your companions grow slowly, your log grows slowly, your character progressively looks stronger and stronger.

It’s done in a way that’s more organic than most games, you play, but you have to socialize to, you have to learn and master all the mechanics, you don’t just level skills you improve all aspects of your character.

The combat has to reflect that, you’re not some super powerful guy who spams giant skills and drinks potions like they’re energy drink shots. You auto attack primarily and throw some powerful attacks in there. You should not be spending ALL YOUR TIME grinding either.

I’m not saying whether Tree of Savior does or doesn’t achieve this, because obviously that’s debateable. But that’s sorta the concept. If you’re not gonna take your time to smell the roses, and be okay with using auto attack a lot, maybe this just isn’t the game for you.

Agreed, maybe the game just isn’t for you.
Even if the quests etc make the adventure a bit linear, you still have freedom on how to build your char, and as it’s not your regular 2015 MMO, if you don’t think about it a little and just choose some skills and stats because you want to be a “great mage that spams flashy skills”, you’re gonna have more trouble exping.
You have to think of how you want to play and build accordingly, if spamming energy bolt is your thing well you’ll have to get decent mana regen and pots.
