Does anyone remember Ragnarok Onlines Beta/Launch?

I know it was 15 years ago and most of you who are complaining and saying the game is DOA are too young to remember. But us old vets remember. We remember the game costing a monthly fee to even play in the open beta. We remember the game having no character customization, everyone ran around with the same hair and the “helm collector” that RO has become actually had no helmet graphics at all. The game was an unstable, unfinished, easily hackable mess.

They even shut down the servers for months because of the mess that game was. Oh yeah, and whenever you would get any information about the game it was in the most broken english imaginable because they refused to hire anyone who could speak fluent english. So every announcement looked like it had been through babblefish a few times.

My point is this. This game is vastly superior in terms of launch quality. And ragnarok is still going strong. If you feel that 50$ is too much, wait a month. Buy the version thats 30$. Then you will have an entire month to think about if that version is worth it and hear what the people playing the game are saying about its current state before you dive in. Insist of paying less or nothing at all? you have those options too.

The gaming industry has changed a lot in 15 years. You can’t hold a game these days to the standards of 15 years ago. Gamers are more diverse now. There are higher expectations, more accountability and it is very easy to both share a game and defame one.

15 years ago mmo was still a new thing. 15 year ago expansions, in game cash shops, dlc-s didn’t even existed.

yeah that was 15 years ago

Dear god yes i remember I remember WoW launch day from blizzard. What people don’t get if you want this game to be even better let the get some funds and let them see who really wants to play the game. Its like the Devs said hey its not F2p anymore its going to be p2p.

Stop killing yours self people its not that bad.

Ragnarok online becomes F2P on 2006 O: and the populations becomes more harder afther than. of course kafra shop is the cash shop of then but after renewal the community die and not say about the unlimited bots they got it at the past of the years

This is Tree of Savior. Stop talking about Ragnarok. RO was a game that today would need a lot to polish, it was a grindy game and there wasn’t much to do.

This game will NOT be Ragnarok, it has the graphics and same music developers but you people need to stop bringing up RO in here because NO ONE wants this game to be just like RO. It’s 2016 and it’s time for all of us to experience something new, not a remade nostalgia because you all know what happened to RO2…

You know what? I’m 29 this year and I can afford to pay for the things that I want, and I’m really hype about this game, so I will pay for it just because I can, and I also understand more about the world now. I’m from a third world country and back in the day I used to play in a lot of pirate ragnarok servers, most of them didn’t have all the stuff implemented and all of them closed early because it was the server of 1 guy who cannot keep afford to spend money to maintain the server; the funny thing is, that even in that class of servers the administrators often sold items to try to keep the server alive.

So what if they want money? they deserve the money and it cost to keep a server running with the amount of users that they expect. Maybe some people who already tested the game will not play it again because they feel that this is a slap in their face, so what? it’s not like the game will lack of users who really like the thematic, or if any of the users who are saying that they will not play the game, are not gonna really do it in the future…

Grow up kids!.. if you can afford one console game that last you 1 week you can afford this for 3 months.

I remember, that’s why I’m hoping they don’t change the EA prices/content too much. I was on RO before OB and I really have missed the community feeling that was there in the old days of RO. It wasn’t just RO, a lot of the older games had a vastly different community than what we see today. It’s not just the games but also that we didn’t have everything in a wiki from the overseas client. There were things that we were still figuring out. There were very few best or cookie cutter builds.

And there ARE a lot of elements from Ragnarok in this game. A large chunk of the players who are willing to fund this game out of the gates and who have committed their time to learning/exploring the content are the old RO players. It’s not an insult to compare the two games–how can comparing something we used to love, to something we are growing to adore be a bad thing? No one is asking for ToS to BE the “next Ragnarok.”

These imbecilic knee-jerk reactions are getting annoying.

Some of us actually matured before being 29, the ones that don’t call other people kids because they have a different approach than us

I am a college student, I live on my own and I am someone who played a ■■■■ ton of both CBTs. I contributed and sent IMC a long ass feedback after CBT2. Not everyone like you can afford a retarded fee of $50 on a game that was promised to be FREE OPEN BETA. Especially a game that we are not sure to be satisfied with considering previous test servers needed to improve A ■■■■■■■ ton. Yeah, not everyone likes to throw their money in a garbage can like you.

People are working on translating the game on numerous languages for FREE. We the community made this game possible, and they make this deal? Nope, not fair. I am not saying IMC doesn’t deserve money, they need to adjust the early access 1-3 weeks before actual release date, or if it’s going to be that long it should wipe.

Next you are going to tell a 10 year old to grow up because he can’t afford his ice cream?

I feel like the reason we usually don’t get english ports/translations of Korean/Japanese games is because of sht like this. If I were a programmer I wouldn’t want to have to deal with whiney B***y kids complaining about a fee for a game that requires MONEY to create. I agree completely with what you’re saying.

and just FYI, servers cost $$$ to maintain, developers need to eat too (no they don’t simply live off oxygen).

People act like the initial release of an MMO these days needs to be perfectly polished. Modern ones have issues as well. Tree of Savior is going to grow and adapt to its community. It already has begun to do that.

Everyone acting like they’ve lost faith in the game simply aren’t willing to pay about $50 for $50+ worth of in game currency and they are afraid they’ll get behind if they don’t. Newsflash: People who pay in f2p games will always get ahead quickly. I admit 3 months is a long time, but you can JOIN A FRESH SERVER ON LAUNCH so what’s the problem? You kids weren’t promised a free open beta this month, get over it.

Speak for yourself =) ToS get my attention exactly because of that similarity with RO. If it will have same charm, if it will feels like RO, i will play it soooo long and spend a lot of money for sure.

So many good points made in this thread i gave out my likes to those who hit home with my feeling about this game.

Its just people want free stuff and don’t want to pay its very sad. I work hard I put myself through school and paid every damn penny. Did i cry about the people who got there parents to pay? or those who got huge financial aid? Nope i was dealt a hand and i had to play with it. If you can’t pay then don’t cry about it you still get the game in JUNE.

Still living on the past?

Beta? i remember when the Alpha of RO started, all that complaining about lag and there being only 1 viable class… things really haven’t changed that much.

This discussion could go on forever. You are all just going to have to agree to disagree because the more you all try to make “points” the greater the chance your posts are going to get lost in 100+ post sea of complete nonsense, childish anger and venomous name calling.

By now most of us know how very specific people feel about this. At this point they’re still addressing the issue out of boredom.
