Do you think that the game is really linear?

Says the guy who would want to lock features out of spite because people think linear quest driven progression is bad. :joy: :ok_hand:

FTFY : ā€œWould you prefer an epic and fun gameplay that gives you the freedom to explore and create your own story over a boring and linear gameplay that forces you down a single path and has no replayability?ā€

You have to keep it somewhat neutral regardless of your own feelings. Can’t sell what doesn’t exist.

So, you guys just want them to delete all the quests and the level tags on maps and mobs?
Your ā€œthis game is linearā€ really seems like a sheep being guided through the open field and complaining about the path.
They made a game with quests and grind, the exp cards give you the chance of choosing which level you wanna skip(do you know that some people that are competing in 1-200 races are saving the cards to level 160+?), yes, you have to do the quests and the people that dont like grind will have to do that too.
I grinded 73-86 only at M. Constructor Basement(and I’m an archer), not even looking for the map level, just to avoid players, sheeps as you were saying me that it was too high level to me when I started and I got 86 before they did. Your problem isn`t the path the dev drawed, is that by having a path you aren’t making your own explore and decisions cause you have a sheep mentality.
If the game had no quests and level tags you would fell free and lost like in RO and would be a pure grind game, but then loads of people would complain that the game is a pure grinding bad game with no content, like your beloved RO on beta.

That poll is very biased, misleading, and inaccurate.

ā€œIs Linear Progression(Following Quest Chains, no variety in maps to level) boring and overdone in MMORPGs?ā€

that whole line purposely leads the reader to an answer you have already decided was the right one. This is an example of one of those major fallacies we make in life. Something your college professor tries to tell you not to do in life…

all you have experienced so far in this game is what imc has allowed to you see. have you experienced a lot? NO VERY LITTLE… are you making assumptions about the whole game based on your experiences in a closed beta for a game that wont be out for another year? yes you are. like i said before. imc is letting you see what they want you to see. there will be more.

Nobody ever said they wanted to delete quests, stop making things up.

I have absolutely no problem with the number of quests, and wouldn’t mind at all if 10,000 more quests were added (as long as they didn’t get in my way). (Actually, 10,000 quests to choose from would make things pretty non-linear, but that isn’t the point since there aren’t 10,000 quests).

The biggest problem (for me at least) is that grinding gives significantly worse exp gains than questing. So you can spend about 1 hour questing, or 10 hours grinding to get the same amount of EXP. This is what forces ā€œgrindersā€ to do the quests, which are set up in a very linear way. Every single player does the exact same quests, 1 after the other, going along the same path from map-to-map, with very very few EXP-worthy other paths to take. If grinding gave EXP on-par with questing, ā€œgrindersā€ could choose their own path instead of following the predefined path that the quests set for you.

Edit: Actually, back to my first paragraph, adding significantly more quests across different maps so you can pick and choose which quests you want to do would solve the linearity problem IMO as well. The game would be heavily quest-focused, which I know some people don’t want, but it wouldn’t be linear. Which, for the purpose of this thread, would solve that problem.

Lmao what is this? The game being linear is a fact at this stage, things like this can be changed but don’t come about without enough reason to change it. What most people ITT are complaining about is the progression aka the way you level. Sitting on one designated map for 5 levels then going to the next then the next in a straight line from NPC to NPC. We’re not advocating for the removal of all quests, it’s the lack of maps.

Also, please get over yourself the Construction Chapel is no secret there are dozens if not hundreds of people there every day it’s not some out of the way area where you just stumble upon it out of your sense of adventure it’s literally right there in front of you.
Don’t assume people who are complaining about the games linear level progression don’t actually explore, that doesn’t make sense to begin with since they’re complaining about the lack of options.

i would like to interject here. i think the decrease in exp gains grinding many hours for the same exp questing gives in an hour is offset on your decisions where and why you are grinding that spot… are you grinding quick drop 5k recipes? 1 hour gives you 200k gold just in recipes? are you grinding for your next weapon that’s going to carry you to the next weapon? are you trying to make 500,000 gold in 1 hour? grinding has its benefits as much as questing.

I am grinding to get EXP so I can get to a higher level where silver is much easier to get. Grinding at low levels for silver is not very productive. And this is why I think it is a problem, you are forced to do quests for EXP and grind for silver. You can not grind for EXP. And with the quests being so linear - you end up with a forced linear game!

So cause exp cards give a lot of exp you cant grind, poor guy, what about people grinding and saving all their cards to level 160+? You gonna get level 200 before they do ofc, cause the way you did is the only way the game can be played.

The people saving all of their EXP cards to level 160+ are STILL forced to do all of the linear quests (how do you think they got those EXP cards?) I don’t know why this is so hard for you to understand…

Nobody wants to take away your precious quests, we just want more options so the game isn’t so linear.

They just has to STOP this ā€œfollow the arrow, collect stuff, kill boss and doneā€ quests. Oh, the statues. It was fun back then, but makes things too easy. Just increase their cost at x10000, for high level players shouldn’t be a problem and must be way easier to reach maps too far. Low level players should walk they’re way up to a map in order to do something, i guess. And stop this auto teleport while completing quests, ITS MAKING THINGS TOO EASY!!11!!!1!!11!!

Because walking is…hard? Mind blown.

Not on ToS. You take 2 min to reach a map or something for a quest, why the teleport?
Tibia doesn’t have (correct me if i’m wrong) a teleporting system, you just have to walk all your way through cities. And people like it. ~ Edit
And that’s my humble opinion.

They like…to walk? Ok never mind, well you can still walk in ToS.

It’s not like if you refuse to use the teleport function someone will rush into your house and arrest you for going against the developers.

No, my point is that teleport makes things too easy, that’s it. But if you like it, just ignore my post. hm

i actually love the auto teleport

but i dont like the linear feel: after i finish the quests in this area, all i can do is move to the next area to find quests.

if i don’t do quests, i have to spend hours on grinding in the same spot just to make up the exp

Oh don’t mind me, I was just trying to find some logic in your post but it seems there is none.

I’m not against teleport spots (the statues), but i what i really disliked was the complete quest teleport. Completed a quest? Just press backspace and you will be in front of the npc to deliver it! This is so lazy that makes me sick -.-.

  1. Yeah, I don’t think they will change the linear quest gameplay into a completely different free exploration game… …but it doesn’t mean we have to like it

  2. That being said, I think we can still talk about and add some constructive criticism…

  3. Of course we can grind without doing quests, but there’s no advantage in doing that right now until lvl50+…

  4. The main problem I have (and probably some others too) is that everyone starts at the same ā€œhome-townā€, no matter which class you play. But they might change it later, because it’s still a Beta: and since we can’t get past most lv160 maps at the beginning, some transport-service could bring us from Klaipeda to other locations like swordsman-town, cleric-town, etc…

btw, liking posts works for me again, thanks IMC!
