Do you think that the game is really linear?

I don’t know how much a beta differs from the real thing, but I feel like it’s extremely linear and it kind of takes away from the game a bit. Does anyone else feel the same? Maybe I just had high expectations from Ragnarok since it felt like the world was bigger and I wasn’t pushed along a straight path of things to do.

Yea, its extremely linear. I wish they had stick to how RO was with world building.

It has a linear route (doing story quest only) but you are not obligued to follow it completely.
You can play it like you could play RO (grinding from the start without doing quests) but this is surely a harder path.
RO way is very non intuitive and new people have a VERY hard time (unless they’re experienced MMO players)

but there aren’t any alternative maps too use. there aren’t even different kinds of enemies.

Maybe up yo Lvl 50 (end of the first revelation quests) but from this point on you have a lot to explore. This game has hidden quests everywhere, hats to drop, recipes to complete, chests to open, dungeons to beat.

I rarely do more than 3 quests of the main story line in sequence before finding something else to do (hunt an achievement, search for an specific drop, explore new areas looking for quests, etc).

There’s only a handful of actual hidden quests. Most require later levels. hats are grinding. Chests require keys from bosses ona rare drop. Dungeons are spread far apart and are buggy and short.

Game is linear to a fault. The only side section is the farm maps above the first city. before and after that its a straight line to follow. It would of been far more interesting if the maps were huge and you had quest hubs inside of them like wow/ff/rift and whatnot does. Instead they took each hub and made it into it’s own small map.

Game needs far more and better rewards for dealing with the grind.

It feels linear because there’s such a big range of levels, which leads to fewer maps per level range. If they scaled down the level ranges(1-300 or something instead of 600) there would be more maps within the level range and there would be much more variation on farming areas. The big reliance on EXP cards right now is also a factor because you have to move on once you run out of quests in an area.

No. It’s not linear. You just ■■■■■■ yourself.
But so have i and a bunch of other people too.

They couraged exploration with hidden Quests and stuff and the Main storyline just sends you this one path.
This is your point, right? Sure it is! You’re right!
But let us think through this again.

I am level 96.
right now im uncovering the location i should have gotten way earlier on. And i realized. The enemies are weak, way to weak.
“Shouldn’t i have come here earlier?” i kept asking myself.
I should have. I remembered that IMC stated, that they encourage exploration.
So we’ve surely all had this point really early on in the crystal mines for example.
THERE SUDDENLY WERE LEVEL 100+ MOBS! WTF!? HOW SHOULD I HAVE KNOWN?!
Right! You couldn’t and you said to yourself, that you gotta come back when you ARE level 100!
But you didn’t. There is no main quest there right?
So you just didn’t went there.

BUT THERE ARE STILL HIDDEN SIDE QUESTS!
There was a Point in the game where i just got LvL 3 EXP Cards and they were just uselsess. It made no Point getting these. And it was the main Quest!

So back to earlier. I am Like Level 90 going through this low-ass level Location and getting these level 4 EXP Cards.
SUDDENLY I REMEMBERED! “■■■■! I SHOULD HAVE COME HERE EARLIER! While the Main-Quest-Area at level 70 gave me way to less experience, this Level 70 Area gives me TONS of EXP!”
(I cant remember all too well, numbers may be off)

TL;DR
So my Point is - it’s good game Design.
You’re taught very early that you can Stumble Upon a higher level Area just next to a lower-level Area. And you dont have to go there neccessarily! You gotta remember where this Area was! You have to remember later on “Right! Im 80 now! I shouldn’t drive my car anymo- wait… no, no ,no! I FINALLY CAN SEE WHAT’S UP IN THIS AREA FROM EARLIER!” Oh and trust me, there are PLENTY of Quests in these Areas! The writing and Quests in this Game are very good. so good that i might forget, that i’m playing a MMO!
It’s just as linear as you are. You have to explore, you have to remember, you have to come back.
They further couraged this with the more expensive fast Traveling!
There are plenty of short-cuts hidden in the game! Everything is connected somehow!
you just gotta Explore…

I was very tired as i wrote this, so don’t Judge me for anything.
I have to play this game…
I’m… not getting nearly enough sleep…
And i may Edit this later

See you in-game!

it feels very linear. i’m lv 78 and i can’t find a place other than the royal mausolum 1F to grind.

and i can’t find more than one mobby place to grind my level. this feel starts from lv 30

don’t ask me to do quests, i have done all the quests - by checking with tosbase.

ToS is not Ragnarok.

But anyway, there are grind areas too, that are completely optional and have some story bits thrown in. First one is for 70+

It’s called Royal Mausoleum Constructor’s Chapel, it has 3 floors. The area has various grinding rooms that work differently and even a mechanism that turns on every 15 minutes and runs for about 300 seconds, during which spawn rate increases and new, larger spawn spots appear.

After 300 seconds pass, a buff is given to all players on the map.

There’s some gimmicks on these maps too, for example on the 2nd floor, there’s this large corridor with bunch of small rooms on the side. When the mechanism of the map starts working (300 sec), these small rooms get blocked off by a force field and in order to enter, you need to kill some mobs, they drop this pot that when you drink you get a buff for 1 minute, its a dummy buff, it’s just there for show, but during this buff, you start getting codes that you can use on the force field (you actually have to type the code in the normal chat near the force field) to pass through and during this time that small room is packed with mobs for you to kill.

As for story on them, it’s pretty much just you picking up some books that you can read from your inventory. There are no quests on this map, that I know of, so it’s a completely optional area with 3 floors, each with different level ranges. First one being, I’d say 70-75, second one being 75 - 80 and the third one, not really sure about that one, I think you can probably level on it until 85.

But anyway, completely optional area that you will never discover unless you actually stray from the main quest, because no quest will lead you to this map, you simply have to find it, get in and see what it has to offer.

It is 80% linear. All the main quests follow a linear map progression. You can almost draw a line connecting Klaipeda to Fedimian to the Cathedral. And then you’d only have to backtrack to Kateen (again, a line north from there).

The Gytis Farms etc are just a 2nd line branch that eventually merge back to the main branch.

Game has more variety after lvl 70 … if you haven’t reached that level then you’re just scraped the tip of an iceberg.

i’m sorry but i have been there since many people told me that it will be a good place.
sadly it’s way too crowded.

experience 1: people ask me to get out from the spot they are camping on floor 1
experience 2: i think the spawn on floor 2 is not satisfying anytime with that many people

it’s an very disappointing experience tbh that i don’t even bother to mention it as an ‘alternative’.

not enough fanboi in the thread, i summon more

It doesn’t really matter what you say. It’s an alternative, it’s a fact. With a few more channels, it would be better. I’m guessing you’re probably on Laima. Switch to Gabija, problem solved. I had 2nd floor yesterday almost all to myself.

im in gabija. but before maint though. need to run around only to kill one or to monster each time.
i think royal 1F is a better place for me now

People this is N O T RO.never was.never will be.get over it.ro was really good FOR ITS TIME.or was it?really good gsmes thst give players what they want more ir lass dont have 100000 of private servers.so if you dont like the game go play ro.this game will NOT be ro.its nsme is not ro2 or ro next its tos.you say there was choice in ro?but you cant event play any class in what ever map you wanted.

no one says this game will be RO. people just expect it to be less linear, in which ro is a good example for making a game nonlinear.

ps. i havn’t played the non linear RO before, im just defending for OP cuz i think some people are too easy to get pissed off every time someone mentioned RO.

If the ro game didnt get in any coment noone get angry☺
