Do you think that the game is really linear?

I feel like you and I are in a closed beta. its going to feel linear in retrospect. what are you comparing your “linear” to? open betas? full releases? games that have been out for 5 years? you are in a closed beta just testing functions. we all know things will be introduced later.

you want:

pvp
territory acquisition
dungeon hunting
crafting and resource farming
dailies
guild wars
world events
THE ART OF GAMEMAKING

imc allowed you to experience

class system
lvling
questing.
npc interactions.
broken story
broken quests
broken skills
broken classes
broken npcs
broken items
broken logins.
broken AH
broken servers

everything you want comes with time… you are in closed beta 2. dont bitch about it being linear.

If they think it’s linear why wouldn’t they complain about it being linear? If they don’t say anything then nothing about it will change in the actual release of the game. Right now you’re virtually dragged by the nose to follow a quest chain with very little reason not to as the pure grinding route is less efficient and less rewarding. If players want that to change then they obviously need to voice their opinion.

It’s incredibly sad to see how many people got pissed at just the mention of RO with the expected “THIS IS NOT RO” replies. Yes, we get it, everyone gets it. Problem is that the game not being RO still doesn’t excuse these design choices. Just because other MMOs do this doesn’t mean that it’s automatically a good thing. I doubt what anyone wants with this game is for it to be a more carbon copy of the average MMO that gets shat out every year and forgotten about in even less time.

You don’t have to read a single word from NPCs in order to complete a quest. Makes me feel i’m playing one of those Facebook RPGs. You just follow an arrow, collect milk, boss get upset, you kill it and delivery the milk. The end.
And repeat it with eggs, sour, oil, bomb, according to map.
I don’t know if they plan changes on it, but they should. Seriously.

Ok you willing 2 wait for it 2 take 1 or 2 more years?
I dont.
People here thinking that if grinding will not give them a lvl after 5 min its somthing they dont need to do or evenbnot part of the game part of the game.
People grind , dungeons and exploring is in the game.go do it.its pointless 2 get to max lvl now.
Almost no one doing dungeons, this is a problem.

I hope that there is a mute button in this forum.

Hope on my frend👍…

There is actually. It’s in your preferences at the bottom.
And now that it is known, you can be sure than lans will be muted by everyone in this and every other thread since all he does is scream illiterately and complain about other people’s opinions and how they “think wrong”.

I finally get why most people are ignoring him.

this game so boring, everything can be beaten solo… no need party,

there is no feel of acomplishment at all

and the quest just meh, i dont even bother to read…
(probably most everybody just skip xD)

so yeah its way too linear… RIP hype

That area is not really worth it. Too many people with just only 1 channel. Mobs are spawning in the same spot so those “people” are jus camping a certain room killng stuff and repeat.

My only concern is that. There is no actual figures on exp (base and class). So I’m just seeing percentage of what I’m getting from mobs and usually it’s just 0.1% per mob. Whether I’m killing the same level as I am or they’re 10 levels above.

I’m currently levelling my Barbarian there and I can agree that RMCC, while good exp, isn’t as good when the map is flooded with KSers. In fact, KSing is so bad in this game, on 3 seperate occasions i’ve actually had people thank me for not KSing them. Which is just weird…

Thats what i think is lacking too, the feel of liberty i had in RO. IMC said it is a “spiritual successor” to RO, for me it doesn’t look so, the graphics and soundtrack can remember me of RO but i think what makes the a successor is what the players feels, what Josh Holmes called " the Hallo Beliefs" when continuing the franchise with 343 studio after Bungie left.
One of the things was that the game was not pushing us to explore itself, we wanted to. After walking between diferent areas and seeing that each one was unique and carried its own identity, we wanted to know more, it had some kind of mistery in the air.
I was i little disapointed about the combat too, we have a huge variety of skills but when they are on cooldown your character doesnt look unique, i dont feel free to customize my gameplay. In RO i could do a lot of things and feel that liberty, even just by seing your character auto-attack i was able to notice that I affected the gameplay.
RO gave us a sense of liberty that i haven’t see in any other game, of course TOS still in beta and doesn’t have a lot of content but i dont think that the base is being constructed in that direction. For me it looks that when making the spiritual successor they missed the " beliefs".

Same here. If they didn’t want players to compare it with RO, they shouldn’t even advertise it as the spiritual successor or RO.

I’m attracted to this game because of that, at this point it looks like a scam to me. I hope they will improve on the game mechanics.

It doesn’t have to be like RO, but at least I should be able to call this place a home.

This is something i can agree, monsters on ToS are all generic, the only difference between them are their durability (hp, def, and resistances). This makes grinding more boring than normal because the only difference on the monsters are their graphics.

Who cares if it’s liniar? Some people like that.

Linear is boring for many, many people because of the fact that your input as a player has no actual value. All you’re doing is following a set path that’s laid out for you rather than having your own individual experience. One of the biggest appeals in an MMO are the players, and watering the genre down to the point where all the players just do almost the exact same thing just makes it stale.

Having freedom and variety will almost always be better for this type of genre because of that alone.

First of all: Why can’t I LIKE posts anymore? Forum broken? Fix it please =)

Anyways, it’s the same what happened with Mighty No 9 - everyone’s disappointed because it was advertised as Megaman’s spiritual successor. And then it’s “different”.
Here it’s the same with Ragnarok Online: the graphics remind me a little of RO, especially the music which is very awesome! The gameplay is even better, it’s a combination of RO and Diablo 3, which I like.
I didn’t dare to expect it would be a linear game though… actually for me it was obvious that they wouldn’t go the same route as all of those korean MMOs like Flyff, Legend of Edda, Dream of Mirrors, RO2, Luna, Rappelz, Cabal, Perfect World, etc… oh well.

Imo, for casual players a training ground should be enough, after that everyone should choose their starting “home town”, or maybe start somewhere depending which class you want to choose. Then they can start with some quests + let them explore maps for more side quests + dungeon access quests.

Also: What’s with all those level-specific equipments & maps? Would be nice if the gave us the poissibility to test our unique builds and skills on high level monsters, so we can try to get a better weapon or armor (directed to all kMMORPGs).
Of course this would involve more work for the developers, if you make a non-linear game from the start. And at this point I don’t think they will change ToS anymore… so yeah, nothing is perfect.

I would really like to hear your thoughts on why you expect more in a closed beta exactly? If I had the dream game every 1 of you are imagining in your head. I would invite you to my closed beta, close 99% of the content and make your beta experience exactly what I directed it to be. just out of spite at this point. you fuckers are bitter. That being said, IMC will have more content and more options in the future. you know this… i know this… why do you act like you deserve to see all of it now?

You’re assuming that it’s boring for many people. Start a poll and find out.

Fine.
Here we go.
