How odd to ask that question in here, of all places. In any case, the flamebait is strong in this thread.

Personally, im offically undenominational (i hope thats the right translation from the german “konfessionslos”), but it isn’t the truth. Over 20+ years of philosophy and thinking, i came to several personal conclusions, the definition of “god” being one of them.

Many different cultural and personal viewpoints of “god” exist (ignoring the “official” definition(s)), thus making a clear mediaran definiton impossible. Also, there is simply no word for my definition of “God”. If there is, it is obscure.

As for an more factual approach, i assume that you mean the christian “god”. I will not go into the complex matter of the “god(s)” of (for example) buddism or a more indept look into the nature of “god”, that would be simply to much. For this thread, for me, and especially for any other readers. As a minor example, a problem arises with the scientific method. The christian (and some other religions “god”) definiton of “god” assumes an “all” “god” (as in, allpowerful, etc.). The scientific method however needs an “enclosed system” for it to work, so that it can prove or disprove. But this defintion of “god” makes it impossible to “enclose” him in an closed system - since the “all” can’t be enclosed. In turn, this means that the “all” “god” can’t be proved or disproved - the scientific method needs the enclosed system for functioning proper. This means we can’t have an clear solution.

Or in short: If we assume an (christian) “all” god, we would get an sin or cos function, but no definite Answer.

Do take note that the above sounds as if it is related to Agnosticism, and while it is related, i make an important destinction: Between the (again, for example) christian definition and other defintion(s) of “god”. And Agnosticism only really works with the western version, thus it can’t fully enclose my definition.

I will stop here, before this thread / my post starts to melt steel beams.

Thor is god.
Zeus is god.
Jesus is god.

God is someone that we praise.

Therefor, this guy is my one and only god.

A good example of an far eastern god, where agnosticism doesn’t apply.

Please continue it was a good read and I agree to your points very much, I think that asking if there is a god in general is a vague question.

I’m an Atheist, therefore I don’t have any beliefs of faith.
That means I don’t like made-up stories as answers, I’m not afraid of the unknown and cherish the fact that humanity is rare and frail.

Yes, yes I do. The only true god, Lord Pizza, my savior.

I have evidence that all of the Holy Books of the various religions were all talking about roughly the same thing. Each book, but I’ll focus on the Holy Bible, has ancient astrological references and is a guided meditation toward bringing people closer to what we all experience occasionally as “God” (communication with spirit through our Crown chakras).

The Bible specifies that Jesus says people will come in his name speaking blasphemy, essentially, lying about things he said and making a mockery of true Christianity. This is exactly what we have seen for thousands of years now with various religions taking this book literally when it clearly says The letter killeth (don’t read this word for word literally, it’s a spiritual guide) but the spirit saves (understand the spirit of this book). That is paraphrased from an actual verse.

Basically, yes I believe in God as our highest self, in direct contact with the laws of nature and the universe as a whole. I read the Bible in the way it was intended to be read, and if anyone is interested I’m willing to share this stuff freely and openly. The Bible is telling you to let go of your animal nature, your lower feelings and thoughts that keep you enslaved, and be woken up and receptive to your own higher thoughts by meditating. Each story symbolically represents a part of this process, where women often represent emotions and men often represent thoughts (thus all the Biblical violence toward women, it’s saying if an emotion causes your thoughts to be unclean then you need to cast that emotion away, kill it). Christ is an energy that flows within us all but not everyone accesses it due to varying levels of ignorance, deception, distraction, or unwillingness. Each character in the Bible may or may not have a literal counterpart in the real world, but they are really just symbolic. They’re just names in a story used to help people become wiser.

No religion has the answers, just pieces of them. Religions were crafted to keep people in line and keep people from understanding the truth written in these books. It’s ironic that the Bible is the most printed and yet the least understood book in all history.

I would like to continue, but writing down everything would be simply to much, im afraid. Not to mention mental exhaustion - i don’t have much expierence in writing, but i do take up to the challenge for training purposes.

No, because I prayed for TOS CBT to come earlier this month and it’s still not here, therefore god does not exist.

In the name of the Lettuce, the Cheese, and the Ground Beef. In your name i pray! Oh Lord and Savior Tacorilla ! Your name be praised !

I do not believe in an allmighty being.
Neither in several gods.
I also do not believe in ghosts or the unnatural.

I do believe in spirituality.

I do not have a Religion per se.
Yet I consider myself a very pious, spiritual man.
I have deep respect for other men with moral standards or spiritual believe, like myself. More often than not, people I met with moral standards are people who have a religion.
I pray, but not to a god.
I have been fasting regularly since I was small, not because anyone or anything told me to. But because I felt it was the right thing to do.

At the same time I dispise most men who bow to an official religion, because those religions are neither a believe nor a moral compass.
If you believe in one of those religions, it means you adopted the believe of someone else. This makes me question your intelligence and you are a hypocrite to me. Which does not mean you are a bad person, however.

The same way I dislike persons that lack any kind of faith.
Note that faith is unequal to religion. If you are an atheist that has formed an own opinion and has come to his own conclusion, I consider that as your own faith in whatever you believe is right.
But when someone arrives at conclusions during his decisions that there exist no values which are worth drawing lines for, that is a person without any faith I can not respect.
A concrete example would be a person that has arrived at the conclusion that it is of no importance whether to smoke or not because his lifetime is relative and hence for this reason he starts to smoke.

I am also fond of the Taoistic and Buddhistic tradition, yet I am neither a Taoist nor a Buddhist.

@MementoMori The terms of service should probably be changed, because this thread doesn’t seem prone to huge arguments… lol
