[Discussion] Retiarius - Q&A on PVP & PVE builds, gearing, skills and strategies šŸŽ£

I’m pretty new on ToS was looking for a ret PVE build and I made this… what do you think I was playing a bit with skills and classes

The excellent thing about Rodelero1 is that most of the CC skills come out quickly or instantly. Shield Shoving is the best example of a quick to use root you can use to set up a knockdown or disarm-throwrete combo.

Montano isn’t considered a knockdown for diminshing returns so you can disable someone for a very long time simply with just bash, shoving, and montano. Shield Push is a 5 second silence with rodel1 so that is another control option at your disposal.

Shield Charge is an instant cast move you can use to push clerics out of safety zone and chortasmata, so it is needed in this meta.

@TryariusMc even for a pure pve-focused i’d strongly consider peltasta c3. enemies later in the game, like at the 370 hunting grounds, have massive defense. peltasta 3’s umbo thrust skill lets you wipe out enemy defense, massively boosting your damage with net>trident finish. you’d use net to gether enemies together and boost damage, then umbo thrust to reduce their defense massively, then hit them with trident finish etc. a nice pve build would maybe be sword1>peltasta3>hoplite3>retiarus3 with full dex. you’d have both high block rate (from finestra and high guard + emengard/aias shield) and high evasion from your dex stats. having both block+evasion is 2 chances to avoid damage entirely. finestra reduces evasion, but the attribute on pelt’s guardian adds 150 evasion back, so you break about even. just ignore the +3 aoe ratio attribute on finestra, as it would wipe out your evasion. as dex, you’d gain a large slab of crit attack stat (crit attack stat is equal to 2/3 of its value as physical attack, but only applies when you crit. basically it’s physical attack with the +50% crit bonus already built into it, and only applies if you crit. trident finish has 50% base crit chance, and finestra adds 200 crit rate to use alongside green gems on weapons, so crits will be frequent. having around 500 dex gives you around 2000 crit attack, which is equal to having +1300 physical attack when you crit). hop c3 also gives access to attribute to make stabbing do 25 hits, turning the skill into great filler (alongside either nets to boost the damage by 100%, or spear lunge to boost the damage by 50%), and ret c3’s blandir cadena is also ridiculous damage (1000% factor x5 hits, and is also doubled by the nets despite being strike+slash. so if you use 1 of the 2 net skills with the 2 overheat of blandir cadena you’re looking at 10 hits of 2000% factor every 25 seconds). the build would have some down time between the huge bursts, but the damage is so ridiculously high with its combos that it doesn’t really matter imo.

edit: been testing the build and with just a +6 non-trans 380 spear i’m landing 400k+ damage per hit with crits when i combo pull rete > umbo thrust > trident finish x3 in the 370 hunting grounds, wiping the enemies in under 2 seconds. then during cooldown on pull rete i us throw net > umbro thrust > blandir cadena x2 > stabbing to wipe another wave. soloing the 370 hunting ground with zero trouble with extremely minimal gear.

I thought Pel3 was good because of Umbo Thrust debuff.

Thanks for this. Just noticed the change made to this skill.

My reason for taking lv.1 Dagger Guard was to use it in situations where I’d go against high damage missile users like Musket (they’ll just ignore my block anyways).

I do now think it makes sense to just leave D. Finisher out - thanks for that. I forgot - does Finestra cancel if I switch to dagger?

I’m strongly considering having at least Rod1 in my build now. Thanks for these info.

Umbo Thrust is indeed very strong but it’s situacional on pvp, kinda of useless on gvg because he is a cc nvl1.

so what skill distribution for rod c2 is recommended?

tested Sw3-Pelta1-Hop3-Reti3 and it’s really nice.
Restrain is really usefull and perma pain barrier is nice too.
THe downside is pelta1, we lost perma guardian and 20% atribute

For rodelero2?

you just need 1 in slithering, 1 in shield charge, 1 in montano, and 1 in shoving - rest is up to you

I would get 5 into shield bash, nice damage skill and the stat scramble can help in pvp.

I’m not sure if it was murm helm or p.barrier (or both) that allowed me to resist freeze, raise, mf stun. Unfortunately running out of resets due to having to reset everyone in my team so can’t test a Sword3 Murm build anymore.

How was your experience with having nearly 100% uptime on P.Barrier? Is it worth trading Pel2 for?

Idk, dash+pain barrier make you almost imune to cc but pelta2 makes you almost imortal…
Very dificult decision…

wondering about sw2-pelta2-hop3-reti3

I feel like you’d get more from dropping Sw2 for something else. It’s Sw1 or Sw3 for me.

On a different note, I went with Sw1 Pel2 Hop3 NakMuay Ret3, and I think I’m gonna stick with it.

While utility-wise Rod1 seems better than NakMuay, I at least have TeTrong for Spin-KD CC and the other skill with Slow debuff chance while all skills have good multiplier values which fits really well into my DPS rotation especially in PVE. Beware though, NakMuay skill rotations are very SP hungry.

I’m planning to main this PVP/PVE hybrid Ret3 going forward.

Final skill distribution: http://tos-th.com/skill-simulator.html#1134443kiii.2355.113a4a65.1f233f517a61.6111253345.1527314f516a7185

Also picked up shield-dagger switching pretty fast - not as bad as I thought it was hence the maxed out Dagger Finish and 1 point in Dagger Guard for situational use with Ricochet attribute.

Agree with Zero here, sw2 is a bad choice and doesnt offer enough to justify the rank not being spend on pelta1. sw1 or sw3.

I thought that buffing myself with durandal would be the salvation for sword c2 …
I do not see myself without active guardian always, I have to rethink about sword3 after all .

Guys, how much DEX do we need for PVE (since mine is a PVP/PVE hybrid)?

Should I go for optimal ASPD (around 150 invested DEX for me) or lower and place everything else in CON?

I’m currently sitting at 200 invested DEX, rest in CON - already have around 110k+ HP with current gear (Solmiki Leather Set).

Tested all viable builds and im stuck on:

Sw1-Pelta2-Hop3-X-Rete3 or
Sw3-Pelta1-Hop3-Rete3

halp D:

@ZeroFoxGiven
I use 300 TOTAL DEX and 700 TOTAL CON.
Doing fine… if you use the new library acessorios+wherewolf card (60% of chance to ignore block+200 blockpen) and a solmiki plate glove with blockpen gem you will be fine against hard blockers.

PVE/PVP Hybrid = Sw1 Pel2 = great when I need to tank for the whole pt (with Gazing Golem Card), better DPS in general due to extra rank

PVP = Sw3 Pel1 = high status resistance, probably does more DPS-wise in PVP situations than the one above since you’re less likely to be CC’ed

Dang, that’s a lot of CON. I will look into those accessories.

I use a full con set:
Solmiki Cloth TOP (80)
Solmiki Bracelet 2x + bonus (65)
Primus boots (45)
Primus glove (45)
Fieno Necklace (20)

Something like this.

I will change the bracelet + Fieno Neck + Glove for Block Pen acessories + Solmiki Plate glove to increase my block pen

Going for this:

BTW stun for restrain is nvl 1?

Dang, how much HP do you have right now?

If they haven’t changed it, yes only lv1.

160k!

What you think about this SW3 build @Remiri ? http://tos-th.com/skill-simulator.html#11113444iii.254f5f6a.153545.1f3f5a7461.1a214f547a85
