Deceiving " Your team name can be changed later on." IT WORKED!

The people defending the devs here are crazy. Yes, correct, most games don’t even allow a name change, and ones that do generally have a cost to it. BUT there are some people that may not be familiar with these kinds of games and when you are presented with creating a name, you may have trouble thinking of one…and then right below you’re presented with “You can change your name later”, with only this statement, it’s generally safe to think “Oh, I don’t have to put much thought into it so I can start playing now, and change my name later!” later realizing “Oh…it cost money? Where was this information at the name change screen where it said I can change it later?”

Could a player have done more research on this? Sure, of course they could have, but it’s a devs job to make things like this clear to the player, things like this should not require you to have to search around and find an answer first.

My buddy bought me an EA pass, though I normally tend to pass on games like this.

Their wording at the Team Name creation screen implies that it can be changed at any time with no mention of a cost. If there is a cost associated with anything, it should be marked as such.

Anyone defending a lack of clarity in the actual game (not news postings on the official site of Steam board) is just being a ridiculous fanboy.

Agreed. It isn’t the player’s job to go hunting for information he/she doesn’t know they need. If it says “you can change your name later,” it should not be expected of them to go and research whether or not that means it will cost money to do it; that info should be presented simultaneously if that is the case.

I have edited the description to emphasize it will cost TP for a team name change.
The edit will most likely be in the next maintenance.

I think this needs to be updated for clarity to reflect that the Team name basically is the player name while character names are more “disposable”

Loooooks like someone should have done a little bit of research before face rolling across the keyboard as soon as they saw the first text box. :wink: In all seriousness they didn’t “deceive” anyone. They never said it was a free change, all they said was that it can be changed. Which it can.

Does anyone know if I were to change a team name, would it immediately become available on other servers, or would it still be locked for a period of time?

I have to agree with OP. I did the same thing - I’m a new player and had no idea what a Team Name was or its significance, so I just picked something random that happened to be on TV at the time since it clearly said “This can be changed later.”

Didn’t know I’d have to pay to change it later >_> Don’t even mention that it can be changed if you have to pay for it. They literally baited for the mistake lol. Other games I’ve played tell beginners that there name is permanent, even if it is a paid option to change it later on. This is simply so beginners don’t get confused and end up with a stupid name that they don’t want to stick with.

Not saying they should give me a free name change, but I think that they should remove the line that says that the name is changeable, unless they want to add “For 150 TP!” in parenthesis next to it. I didn’t “rush” or assume based on beta, since I didn’t play beta. I wanted to continue on with the actual game and worry about my name later on when a good one popped into my head, and they misled me into believing that was a free possibility.

Plus, there was a terrible, horrible job at explaining what the hell a Team Name was. Had no clue that it would be stamped underneath each and every one of my characters. I don’t care too much about what I picked, I’ll live with it, but they really need to do a better job at this type of stuff. Many features of the game are terribly hard to understand in general, being someone who just picked it up and didn’t do tons of research on it prior.

I aswell fell on it. Luckily they’ve opened the EU server a bit later. So I was able to recover. But this issue instantly leaves the impression of “dont worry, we’re gonna take all of your money” on me. Not gonna happen lol.

my only problem with this is that is a bit too expensive. It’s 10 bucks now or around 15 with normal prizes. Cmon…

I’ve for you guys to name an MMORPG that allows you to freely change your player name. I’m waiting… oh wait, there is none… THEY ALL MAKE YOU PAY MONEY FOR CHANGING YOUR NAME. Why would you expect any different from Tree of Savior? Go back to clubpenguin.

Can i say something noteworthy here? if you cant afford the less than 10 bucks to chance your team name if you ACTUALLY cared. than you are a some under 13 year old kid that cant mow a single lawn in the summer for 10 bucks to even give a ■■■■ about… guy… if you cant scrape together 10 bucks or its countries equivalent than who really ■■■■■■■ cares? you?? me?? some guild thats dominating your server?? your friends that play everyday?? who actually cares? Lets take it a step further… who actually even knows you exist in this game? 2 ppl? 70 ppl? the 119 random players you played with in a group dungeon that whisper your ■■■■■■ up name to begin with? are you so butt hurt that the know you as pimplepopper instead of of sicksills1337dmgbigballs?

Even if i deleted my chars name in darkages.com it stays in the game forever…

people read my guides for quests. People see my statue in game. People talk about my skill in arena… I quit the game for 7+ years, went back with a new player, entered the arena, and within a few days people were comparing me to the OLD me of 7 years prior… A community never forgets…
