I do believe so. I’ve been dodging/blocking some catas but I still get slowed. Not sure if there’s one hit among many misses I’m missing.
Restrain has always procced off misses so use that to your advantage.
You said that you are missing a bit less, but that it means that you have enought accuracy to go against an archer, or you just go focus low dex classes like wizards and clerics?
It seems that archers scale really well and maybe they will have arround 9/10 dodge rate if the game is expanded more, due to their scale with swift step (10% more evasion with just rank 1), also with priest’s monstrance they can break limits in pvp ( (DEX * 1.3) +10 = additional DEX). I’m really worried about that, and i think that even with some more DEX it won’t be enough to deal against this buffs in an archer.
Surprisingly, even with a very little dex you still land some stray hits due to corsair attacks all being a lot of hits. Dex guys generally have less con (which is a mistake) and die easily.
Archers are more of a problem because their mobility and range than their dodge. That said, a proper dex/con archer would be a real problem… also wont do enough damage to stoneskin etc… High con counters critrate meaning they will receive even less benefit from dex.
I basically face the same dilemma. If I put too much into dex, I’ll ruin my damage. I will also lose Sissels procs that require you to miss. So I’m keeping a balance here.
Those who really want to just focus on mages can go full str with some con, but there would be just too much misses I guess.
Don’t you think less STR, more DEX and Glass Bracelets (for Block Pen) would be better? I have 125 points invested in DEX (around 165 total) and I still miss a lot and get hit by some archers (I need some gems so I can craft my Glass Bracelets but I’m lazy and playing an alt for the moment). I feel useless against mages due to Subzero Shield, Dark Theurge, (endless sleep) and many other long-duration cc skills (raise, magnetic force, frost pillar).
I’m a Barbsair (no restrain) so I rely on Seism to stun those archers. It’s usually not enough. Stun rate is high but not long enough to keep them in place to follow up with some more skills. Manual block helps a lot though on the defense side. Landing a hook at melee range usually means they die because they have small hp pool. Basically, I do well against swordies, pretty good or pretty bad against archers (depends on their DEX and hook, basically), bad against clerics (block rate, heal, safety zone) and pittiful against wizards (too many cc).
That’s why I’m rolling a catagoon right now. Huge mobility and many cc (with actual damage). I feel bad about being “meta” but I feel worse when I hook 3 people and my team mates just ignore them, die (why do priests>monks feel like they need to go first? They always are the first ones to die and they should stay alive to ress people…) and I watch everything as I can’t move.
TL;DR: IMO, as Corsair, you should stay near your cleric and let your team do most damage. You deal your share when your utility (hook) allows you to do so at the same time. Staying alive seems more important than killing people yourself.
But I get bored that way xD You are right ofc.
Idk, If you have invested 125 into dex and still miss a lot, then I dex is not that useful, dont you think? Because investing same points into con would be safer def-wise (especially against magic) and you don’t get much atk-wise anyway (crit blocked by resist on proper con chars, misses still occur on con/dex chars and dex chars).
And you mention stoneskin. You know, since block penetration skyrocketed with update, I barely notice stone skin because of high str.
I just figured you’d still need SOME dex to keep balance of things. But certainly not a lot of dex. I may, of course, be wrong.
I know exactly how you feel about hook. Even when you spell it out for them they still ignore you and end up dying horribly on their own anyway, but that mainly happens at the lower ranks. When you make the top 100 the support is amazing. They’ll figure out you have hook right away and take advantage if possible. They’ll do things like place Safety Zone and Heals while you hook 3. What you said at the end has worked for me too but you’re still at the mercy of auto match. Many times the rest of your team will just quickly run in and die, leaving you 2 vs 5.
For stats I’ve tried 3 variations so far in TBL.
200 STR, 225 DEX: decent against swordies but they’re not the biggest threat. Will take down all archers except the ones that go high DEX. Can’t scratch Stoneskin or high CON Wiz. Fragile against magic because of low CON.
500 STR, the rest CON: forget about hitting archers except the ones that go all STR. Now you can fight Stoneskin and high CON Wiz so they become your primary targets.
400 STR, 100 DEX: now you can hit just about anybody minus high DEX archers, with enough STR to not feel hopeless against CON builds, but you’ll get rekt faster against magic because of lower CON.
For me the high DEX one was the worst of the bunch. The other 2 will both work out for different reasons, you just have to adjust your play style to the build.
My char was going to be a fencer, hence the higher dex. I guess str is a much better choice in pvp. I’m aiming this stat distribution for my catagoon (I don’t want to use my stat reset on my corsair right now): http://www.tosbase.com/tools/stat-calculator/build/rd3j8xyv6j/
I’m tempted to try this one but I’m not sure if it’s enough str: http://www.tosbase.com/tools/stat-calculator/build/oitpswbohq/[quote=“Stormrider, post:69, topic:317478”]

I like this
I think Fencers should still continue on the DEX train. They really struggle now in PVP but it’s looking decent for them at C3 with crit resist debuff and crit damage boost making that all that DEX worthwhile, and disarm looks like a really handy skill against physical damage.
I don’t know enough about Catas to offer advice on stats so I think you should ask that in the Cata3 thread.
I’m not going Fencer anymore. I’m going Corsair c3 or Dragoon depending on rank 8 classes.
Catas usually go low dex. I’m a little familiar with them. I just don’t know how much str is need to bypass block yet. Your numbers are going to help me adjust my stats to my playstyle though.
Rayburn, my worst nightmare.
oh stop it, you :3
you’re also one of the best clerics I see on arena
