Civil Exp rate/curve talk

Shoot man, I don’t wanna come off the wrong way here but I have some issues.

-The level cap atm is like 250 right? That’s a hell of a STARTING level cap.
People aren’t outright saying that the grind is way to hard but rather that it gets progressively higher. You say that it’s not that bad at 100. Well what about 150? 200? 249?

-Most of us here probably have a job, a family, and other games and hobbies that aren’t a game that doesn’t exist yet.

-This is a game, first and formost its supposed to be FUN. That doesn’t mean there can’t be a hardcore, because this game looks pretty skill based. If all hard core is is point and click grinding that never ends, do you even want to call yourself hardcore?

-I’m sorry but I play games for fun, and while I do get a tad elitist at times, pressing the same set of buttons over and over, trying to make a number bigger isn’t my idea of fun. If grinding is all ToS has to separate the plebs and the elite, this game has nothing for me.

I’ve posted this before on a previous thread (and the new thread is already becoming toxic), If you aren’t willing to be civil, don’t bother posting. Here is a few more points I feel should be touched on.

-Being fair, grinding to 250 should take you a good while, and In my experience it’s really the curves that get brutal. Does anyone have actually solid math on any of this?

-I would like for someone to define “Casual”, because a lot of people are really tired of random NEETs and 14 year olds calling themselves hardcore because they can afford to play 12 plus hours a day.

  1. I think the level cap is 500 (I think) and was limited to 200 during the Beta and 250 during one of the other test.

  2. Regardless of job, family, or other games the length is a good thing. I yearn for the day I can spend a month playing a game and still be progressing in levels again. Some of my Favorited games had this kind of playstyle. In the last several years they have seem to go away.

  3. Different people find fun in different things. No game is going to appease everyone. But it can be said that the industry is filled with games that don’t have the grind. Tree of Savior is appealing to the people who enjoy it. Let Tree of Savior be the game that is fun for the people who it is targeting.

  4. The grind isn’t all their is, but there will be a lot of it. Not every game can make everyone happy.

  5. I look forward to playing Tree of Savior  And finally playing a game that I can enjoy the leveling process for more than 3-4 days which is how long it took me to reach the level cap in the last 3 games I played. Makes me wish for games like EverQuest, or Ragnorak Online, that actually took time. The journey was always a blast and I would make friends through it. In the last few games I played I can’t name one friend I made during the leveling process.

Pretty sure the level cap is 600. And this is not a game for the weak minded. Or people with a life. :muscle:

Let us just remember that IMC could’ve very well reduced the Exp rates to make leveling in the beta something that won’t be a breeze, but will adjust them once the full game comes out.

Remember that things like this are subject to change, and most likely will.

To be honnest, this game is a lot of fun even during the leveling and even just at like level 50/60, when you start getting your skills of C3 maxed. Honestly, i find the whole find a good exp zone for your char/your build/your team way funnier and way more interesting than most other MMOs at level cap… Just the fact that you can choose where do you want to go is awesome and I won’t be surprise is like level 70 5 man parties were made to grind level 100ish areas wish a load of buffs etc just because it is a little bit better (or a large bit) than grinding as a 2 man party or as solo in a level 65/75 zone. This alone is awesome, not to mention all the monsters attributes and synergies between classes that make this game fun and awesome before reaching level max.

Just my opinion though.

  1. "EXP scaling is too _____"

There’s a lot of talk about EXP scaling. It’s gotten to the point where I’m not even sure what anyone is asking anymore.

All I know is that we can debate this topic from now until OBT or until IMC releases more information. We’ll just end up talking in circles. c_c

  2. "But Fleece, you're a no-lifer! You don't understand our plight!"

If you chose to play this game, you make time for it. Isn’t that what a hobby is, something you make time for? Just remember, in the very end you’re only competing with yourself.

  3. "No-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-filthy-casual..."

What does hardcore mean? Is it being the very best, like no one ever was (dun dun dun~)? What about being casual?

My definitions - you’re hardcore if you take the game too seriously in any avenue. It can be a positive thing (I’m looking at you, theory crafters, you loveable huggable bunch!) or a negative thing (-insert stereotypical angsty NEET with too much time-). You’re a filthy casual if you don’t set peer-competitive goals and would much rather play for friendly relations.

All in all, the most important thing is to have fun, whether you’re hardcore or casual. It’s even better if you’re helpful and positive to those around you. If you discriminate against either (and any) group, I hope you fall off the tree and hit every branch on the way down.

  4. "Not another grindfest..."

Well, grinding is necessary to this game - it’s kinda built into the game. However, the beauty of any game is that you get create your own agenda. In this one, you don’t have to be on the constant grind - you can explore too. I hear there are some pretty nifty things to be found on some maps.

  5. "What else do ya hafta say, Fleece?"

I’m really sorry if I come off as condencending or rude, it is not my intention at all! The number format is so I can organize my thoughts and be as clear and concise as I can. The above statements are also my opinions.

P.S. I’m a filthy carebear x3

I like your reply, I’m not saying grinding is inherently bad. It’s pretty necessary in it’s own way. Every conversation i’ve seen on this has become real rude, real fast.

Fleece, you’re DP is sooo hot. Mind telling me who she is? And from what anime(if she is in any)?

It’s a fan art of Queen from FF Type-0
I did not draw her though ;w; I don’t got them skillz

This is what I did when I got bored because of all the grinding. It’s really fun to explore. I’m currently studying in college and I agree to making time for playing this game and competing with myself.

Just my input here - the fun doesn’t begin in this game once you reach max level. It doesn’t appear to be one of those types of games. Just because the end is far away, only means that the journey is that much longer. Maybe the journey is where the fun is, and is the more important part.

I’ve a life, work and study. Have a girlfriend too and i can assure you, I’ll hit the cap in 2-3 months.

I’m going to straight up put this out there - if you do not enjoy leveling in ToS, then this game is not for you.

It really is as simple as that, if you cannot stand the thought of grinding for hours on end, move on and find another MMO that can offer you what you’re looking for.

It’s been said so many times that this is a spiritual successor, a love letter if you will, to Ragnarok Online, a game which took a very long time to hit level cap.

This game isn’t being built like modern MMOs, it’s a throwback to the classics - sorry if that upsets people but there are plenty of other games out there that are doing something you’re looking for.

Look up one of my posts in the other exp threads, Or one of Garfy’s. Tired of reposting the same things.

Just make the last circle super grindy, and the rest only a bit grindy. Then you can try various builds and alts, even if it takes a lot of work to reach max level, because you’ll still be relatively close. The grinders will be able to grind all they want from 400-500, and have that seniority of being level 490, when all the newer people are only in the 470s!

As a theory crafter, extreme grind from the beginning to the end just doesn’t let me have my fun at all. As a grinder, is there a problem if you get the grind in the later levels? Why are only YOU allowed to have fun from start to finish? I don’t care if max level is impossible, as long as it only takes a decent amount of work to get to 100 or 50 levels before it.

Grinders aren’t the only people allowed to have fun. But saying that grinding should be limited to 400-500 and that 1-400 should be for people who don’t like grinding seems extremely unfair. If you disagree and think it’s fair than the current system works for you. 1-100 isn’t that bad, that should be enough for the people who don’t like grinding that much right (Using your logic)? I had two days and got to 43, and people with 7 days got to 100, so those aren’t too bad at all.

The internet is literally filled with countless MMO’s where you don’t have to grind that much at all. If you want World of Warcraft has an option where you can skip grinding almost entirely and go to level 90 with a press of a button. The last MMO I played Echo of Soul I hit the max level in 3-4 days.

Tree of Savior is aiming for a niche crowd, a crowd that liked Ragnarok. It will be unique among all the current MMO’s out there. Let’s not water it down and make it like every other one coming out.

But if you agree that 100 levels is enough to appease a crowd you should be fine. 1-100 isn’t that bad at all

Except the main reason I’m interested in this game is all the possible build paths. Other games don’t have that nowadays. That is in fact, also one of the reasons why I liked Ragnarok Online. Yes I did play private servers with increased rates.

The reason why theory crafters, or at least ones like me, would like faster levels, is so that they can try out their proper skill and stat combinations. Why do grind lovers need slower levels? I’m not saying to make it faster to get to max level. It could take the exact same amount of time as it is now for all I care. I’m just saying, why not put all that grind at the end? Just make it a super steep curve.

You will have to explain why this is bad to me. As I am not a grind lover, I cannot fathom why you love to grind, and I cannot fathom why that grind cannot start in the later part of the game. In what way does this not appease everyone? :\

You can still theory craft without playing each class, and each combination. In fact I would highly suggest it since last I remember someone counted 888 combinations of classes (Just based on the classes we are aware of at the moment).

I understand your view point more clearly now with your clarification though. The main problem with that is that if people are rushing through 4/5ths of the game that is going to leave 4/5ths of the maps pretty barren and empty and going to leave 1/5th of the map area extremely crowded and congested.

Leaving it as is will spread the population around a little more and keep people on all parts of the map for longer.

i dont give a fvck about this exp shjts anymore, just let IMC do their job

100 is literally nothing. I don’t know why all of you who want to grind for the rest of your life seem to think 100 means anything.

If you want to grind infinitely why aren’t you playing Runescape?
