Brand New to Game

I played the game for a couple of hours tonight. I had a lot of fun. It seems Like I can really mess up my character easily. I’ve been looking for the most common builds; however, these builds seem to be old before the September patch. Reading older forums say Paladins are not that great. It appears they are good now. What would be a really good recommended build. I prefer to cast spells then melee. Thank you

cleric3pala3priest1inquisitor1 or cleric2priest1pala3kabba1inauisitor1 is a little hybrid imo, but if u want to cast spell choose krivis/tao or wizard class or pure support build

That build is sooo bad, especially with Kabba 1 and Priest 1 that serve no purpose.

Imo a good spellcasting build would be something like Cleric2>Bokor3>Krivis3>Taoist for Rank 9 after the Class rework of Krivis. You have Effigy,Damballa,Zaibas,Divine Stigma for constant and high damage, can go hybrid INT/SPR so your Taoist won’t run out of SP that easily and decent defensive capabilities due to Aukuras.

You could also go for Cleric2>Krivis3>Sadhu3>Taoist, but Sadhu is a bit worse than Bokor when it comes to damage&flexibility as his damage spells require you to stay rooted for several seconds.
Also, you’d lose 5 skillpoints on Krivis for Melstis to have 100% uptime on Transmit Prana, and it works a little less well with INT/SPR, so you’d probably go for full INT and might face SP problems[due to the Taoist spells consuming so many of them] until you get decent SPR from equipment.

The greatest problem I see in this build is the lack of short CD skills like Effigy to deal damage. While Divine Stigma will deal damage over time with 6 seconds CD time, I doubt its scaling will be satisfying enough, especially since it’s limited to only 5 targets per cast.
Effigy on the other hand has a nice scaling per level and gets a double damage boost from Hexing (+30% from the Dark attribute and another small boost by the mdef reduction), and it has 3 overheat + 4 seconds CD time, so it is a perfect damage skill to fill in the gap when the other damage skills are on CD.

So all in all, it’s like this:
Sadhu

  • more damage on multihit skills due to Transmit Prana (great for Taoists Creeping Death Charm)
  • another healing skill (Praktiri with attribute)
  • 2 strong AoE skills with a semi-long CD; requires you to be rooted and can be canceled by knockdown/knockback
  • high mobility/action radius with OOB&Praktiri
  • no elemental weakness and 25% more damage against dark attribute (which is pretty common in TOS)
  • no good filler damage skills

Bokor

  • all skills dark attribute (means that your Hexing will increase the damage of all your skills but at the same time, many monsters resist dark element so the bonus is mostly just negating the malus)
  • Effigy is a styrong filler skill with nice damage scaling (can deal as much as over 4000% every 4-6 seconds); depends on Hexings Curse to deal damage so it’s a little handicapped against many enemies
  • Damaballa is in theory the strongest AoE damage skill ingame, it explodes your zombies for AoE damage and has a really good scaling per zombie while having a relatively short CD time; if paired with Zombify you’ll have a nearly unending supply of new zombies to nuke, otherwise you can rely on the 300 silver zombie capsules to summon new zombies every 5 seconds
  • Zombies deal decent damage with enough SPR to back them up, until now it’s ~ +50% damage every 100 SPR; with the upcoming rework of Ogouveve, they will each deal at least 2k damage per attack(without SPR, with SPR you can go up as far as 4-7k) every second, which is a nice damage bonus when there aren’t enough monsters around
  • Thanks to the up to 8 zombies, you have 9 times the aggro limit of a non-Bokor, meaning you can mob way more monsters to kill them than most other Classes
  • Samediveve grants you a movement speed boost of up to 7 movement speed, so you’ll be able to cover distance&move/evade actively more easily that a non-Bokor
  • Effigy costs lots of SP to spam, so you need to go INT/SPR hybrid for better sustainability; also, zombies perform badly without any SPR

Why I suggested a caster build with Krvis and Bokor/Sadhu:
Krivis and Bokor/Sadhu have the benefit that they are Classes that feature useful skills with low-moderate CD times, good damage capabilities and decent utility features.
The greatest plus is that funding these characters is a lot easier than other Classes due to their low attribute costs (all skills are below Rank 7 when they get really expensive), so you’ll have a higher potential earlier by investing into their skill attributes on the run.
They also are a lot of fun to play and perform good enough to put them together for a build.

The highest dps build in game right now is swordie1 > petasta 1 > hoplite 1 > rodelero 3 > shinobi 1 > murmillo 1. The attribute are quite expensive be warned

If you prefer to cast spells and melee i think druid will do…

Cle3 > Diev > Monk/Pala > Druid 3 or
Cle2 > Prie2 > Monk/Pala > Druid 3

Getting Monk/Pala for 2h Blunt Attribute for high dmg and good if you transform into a werewolf for high dmg

Druid needs so much funding to be good, especially the 3 Iltiswort cards and the Carnivory attributes are highly expensive. It also requires SPR for transformation sustainability while it gains nothing else from SPR(except on the Priest build)…
Not a good suggestion for a newcomer to the game to advertise such expensive builds for first characters.

Thats non true, priest have monstrance is good on a str/dex pala inqui, also this build is mana hungry kabba resolve every problem with ein sof

no its not bad ._. i have pala3inq1 and bosses are melting…

uh… even with or without Iltiswort cards the damage is decent enough and also you dont really need to invest more on carnivory and you can get 20% dmg on plant type monsters by attribute of diev

you only need a good weapon to deal dmg thats why I suggest 2h blunt
I think even beginners can do druid thou I made a druid using a new account…

So do you want to keep using a paladin?

C1>P2>PALA3>KABA1/MIKO/MONK1/ORACLE1>INQUI

Choose wisely if you intend to have pala3 for your build.

This is some excellent feedback! Thank you so much RoA. It is clear you know the Cleric well. Will I be able to also heal in dungeons as well with this build? I still hope to main heal. The reason why I want to stay away from melee is because I get super nauseous playing melee classes.

If you want to main heal, I assume you want to be able to support (half dps half support). Healing via [heal] is still great, but we are getting more options in the future (and now too actually).

Here is a sample of what a krivis healer can do if you want to pursue it. This in turn makes [restoration aura] more potent aside from the combo where [restoration aura] doubles the flat healing from [heal]

There is also the option of taking damage for other party members so you don’t have to heal them via [barrier] + barrier: devotion. Naturally you need to be able to heal yourself and safely take the incoming damage.

  • Full con so your [heal] recovers more due to it healing 5% of max HP + flat healing.
  • PD2 for lv 10 healing factor. PD3 is getting a damage reducing buff so there’s that too.
  • Kabalist [ein sof] increases max HP and ein sof: stacked healing doubles the effect of [heal] (10% max HP + 2x flat healing)

So yeah, support roles are getting more diverse if that’s your thing. These options won’t take away much from damage since krivis itself is bring some with it (low CD dot in [divine stigma] and a boost to [zaibas]).

well, Heal is fine as long as you have at least Cleric C2 in your build.
What your build brings to the table is a nice HoT with Aukuras due to the fact that Aukuras will reduce the base regeneration time from 20 seconds to 10 seconds(level 5 Aukuras)/7,5 seconds (level 10 Aukuras)/5 seconds (level 15 Aukuras)/4 seconds (level 17 Aukuras). Given that the base HP regeneration of a level 330 character is at least 220 HP, and Aukuras level 15 adds 157 HP regeneration rate(with full attribute) on top, the team will regenerate at least 377 HP every 5 seconds[ I’m speaking of future convenience, currently, Aukuras has the downside of the high CD time that makes it only practically useful in places you don’t have to move much, this will change with the Krivis boosts that will most likely arrive at iTOS within the next few months; I estimate it to arrive in December].

Generally speaking, nearly noone has no CON, though, because you get a lot of CON off of equipment, and in the future with more stats stemming from equipments, CON equipment will be a lot more common, making Aukuras a really useful healing tool(especially if combined with level 1 Restoration scrolls).

The upcoming C2 Aukuras attribute that reduces its duration and CD time tremendously will also help a lot, because currently it isn’t really mobile, so that problem is also taken care of, making Aukuras a really beneficial healing skill with several other beneficial effects (additional fire property attack, reduction of the enemies accuracy, reduction of debuff effect time when standing besides Aukuras and additional fire property resistance).

I suggest you to not pursue a build that’s mainly focused on actively healing, because this is only required until people have properly advanced with their gears.
Afterwards, because of the upcoming defensive buff boosts (Aspersion, Increase Magic Defense), the damage most people will recieve won’t be as bad so they won’t need a very potent healer but rather a support&damage hybrid that brings useful buffs&debuffs to the party, coupled with damage.

And damage is exactly what most supportive healing/defensive Classes lack, that’s why I suggested bundling it with a damage dealer like Bokor/Sadhu, so that you can advance through the game and choose whatever role you want to take on without being crippled or handicapped early in the game and/or unable to farm/play on your own.
Of course you can, at least partially, overcome any wall in the game by spending more time and money on your character (e.g. better gems, higher weapon upgrades&transcendence stages),
but since you’re new, you might want to start out with an easier build.

Be warned that Krivis on iTOS currently is still not balanced, so it might bringt some troubles if you advance Cleric2>Krivis3. If you decide to take Bokor, you should opt for Bokor3 first since it is uncomplicated damage and has a neat progression even into late game (if you invest a little into attributes and a weapon on the way) without the need to get yourself a higher-ranked damage dealer like Inquisitor or Plague Doctor.

On a more recent test, I was able to complete the Mishekan Forest questlines[i.e. level 327 quests] for the Mystical cube with a +6 Pamane Rod[a level 170 rare rod] on a build where all damage comes from Cleric2 and Bokor3, with most attributes being either level 20 or 40 [Effigy was the highest at level 50], so there should be no problem for you to advance through the game this way.

Pala3>Inquisitor isn’t bad, but there is no way that Priest or Kabbalist do anything good for the build (aside from the SP regeneration by Ein Sofs attribute).
And there is the fact that Paladin is pretty nasty if you level Smite due to its astronomical SP costs.
But what I dislike the most about the build is the sheer attribute costs.
If I wished e.g. to upgrade God Smashs or Pears of Anguishs damage attribute to level 90, I’d have to pay ± the same money (~120 million silver) that I’d need to max [i.e. level 100] the damage attributes of Damballa (~62 million silver),Effigy (~37 million silver) and Zaibas (~25 million silver).

And you must agree with me that those skills are all more potent than God Smash if properly attributed(and don’t require accuracy&crit rate to hit/for a damage boost) and combined.
God Smash with level 90 attribute, Conviction debuff and blunt bonus clocks in at ~11620% every 20 seconds. Effigy can do the same in 14-18 seconds, too, and Damballa only requires to explode 7- 10 zombies for the same effect.
Finally, if we go for Taoist at Rank 9+, our Krivis’ Zaibas will clock in for another 14000%+ every ~24 seconds.

I won’t go as far as to say that Bokor3>Krivis3 will outperform Pala3>Inquisitor, but both builds stand ~ on equal grounds with similar investments.

Good support capabilities, good damage capabilities, low base investment requirements, running well as hybrid build with low-no need to buy/use many potions;

  • it’s a spellcaster and not melee-focused like Pala>Inquisitor [what the OP wanted to avoid].

priest giving u ressurect, kabba giivng u mana, c3 giving u better heal, diev giving u cd reduction, monk little damage… there is no best option imo for this build ;/u can go bokor 2 but bokor is SPR class not STR, pala /inq is mostly STR class

That skill is the most useless skill ever in the whole game.
They made the game so easy with all those defence boosts and defence buffs that only people with bad connection and/or bad gameplay will fall victim to dieing.

And even then, what benefit does ressurecting them do?
They lost all their defensive buffs and likely even broke some of their equipments,
which will result in them dieing more likely after ressurection,
becoming a downward spiral till their equipment is completely broken, rendering them useless for the party (unless they’re supporters like e.g. Thauma/Chrono that don’t contribute much aside from their buffs).

The skill is also useless without a party :joy:

People should consider their equipment and start transcending the damn stuff if they die easily, start potting and/or buy level 5 Aukuras+ Restoration scrolls for ET.
Also putting away those Gazing Golem cards and exchanging them for Poata cards works wonders in combination with Aukuras (300-900 additional HP recovered every tick). There is also the cheap solution of Squires Basecamp & Refreshment Table to help you survive(a higher HP boost, HP regeneration boost).

And put some points in CON for the sake of survival. 100 STR less, 100 INT less or 100 DEX less won’t kill you, they will just result in losing a few attack/magic attack/critical attack + Aspd.
In turn, you get at least 11000 additional HP(Wizard, all other Classes get more, Swordsman has the highest gain of nearly 18000 HP per 100 CON at the current cap) for 100 CON, which is a boost of ~50% compared to no CON (and even more at the next cap, as the HP gain per point of CON rises with the level, compared to INT/STR/DEX that have fixed values).
This means that your once-invested CON will improve its value every time the cap is raised and thus leaving no need to reinvest at a later point.

There is a lot people can do to prevent themselves from dieing, so why would everything fall back to the Cleric that needs to ruin his build with 1 Rank of Priest just because others didn’t want to build a Squire for food-boosts or build a Pardoner for Aukuras scrolls/buy some off the market?

I wouldn’t call it the most useless skill ever since resurrect can allow the team to reset when something goes wrong, especially when the damage dealer of the group is a glass cannon build(mostly archers). I always prefer put 4 to max in this skill for the quicker cast time. Also, some ET floors requires you to have resu.

Not true, sir. Resu can knockback mobs and again it allows you to reset your position when your in solo.

I really like the skill. I guess It always comes down to comfortability and preference I think.

no its not if u want to run solmiki,

If you want to run Solmiki, you have 5 party slots. If you put in a Thauma/Chrono, you have 4 slots left.
Don’t tell me you have no slot open for a player that is Priest C3 in these 4 slots.
Judging from your logic, every single player should have Priest C1 so that if a comrade has fallen, he can be ressurected [Because what will happen if the player with Priest dies and there is noone to ressurect him?] …

This is not the case.

But then, why would you want to take a character that can’t survive into the party?
That’s an oximoron. If Ressurection was that needed, everyone should have a Priest in his build and this would thus disqualify every other base Class from entering the tower.
But if it is not required, why would you need to take it into your build?

It’s a failsave in the case someone else messes up/is badly equipped, but at the same time it requires you to be not the one to do so. So all in all the skill is useless and just covers the inability of other players as long as the skill wielder is not disabled himself.

Man, what you are saying doesn’t make any sense, your walls of text are not helping. Someone just says Res is needed for Solmiki and you go in a mad logic of Res being so OP that everyone should put 1 Circle in Priest… What - the - actual - ■■■■.
