Barbarian Fencer tips

Just want to make sure I got this build right. Here’s my build: http://www.tosbase.com/tools/skill-simulator/build/r3ncwp5dw6/

I put 1 in Helm Chopper in order to use Cleave and Pounce after it. I hear that Pounce is a good skill.

I put 4 in Frenzy because I had points leftover. Some like it, some don’t, so I’ll have to see it for myself on the first Circle.

Also need to check to see if I got all the necessary attributes down. Overall, if there are no glaring mistakes in my build, I plan to go ahead with it. Thoughts?

I suggest taking HL1 instead of Pelt. Guardian is going to be nerfed hard for those who wanted the evasion. After that, no need to max Cleave. Its damage is mediocre at best in late game. Put more points in Frenzy.

Since you are going Fencer, Venier will be mandatory anyway. Best to take advantage of 2 all Fencer skills increase option. Try to take Attaque Coquille till you get 100% uptime with Venier. Dump more points on Composee for damage

I suspect Fencer C3’s new skill Epee Stance will have an evasion attribute.

Don’t pick a shield-user rank unless you’re going to use a shield tbh

tons of dex.
and also 20 characters.

1 circle of pelt is still worth it imo even if you are not using a shield. Guardian for the 18% evasion and swashbuckling can be used even with daggers.

The patk nerf won’t hurt you so bad since it doesn’t reduce overall skill dmg by that %

Don’t listen to anyone telling you not to take Pelt if you want to get into parties endgame. You will be expected to have Swashbuckling. And the +25% health attribute for Swash is pretty legit too.

well, since you are going for a barbfencer pelt is by far a logic a very good choice, is up to you what you want, but for fencer at least pelt is a lot better than sw2 or highlander1.
highlander1 offer cross guard with the chance to add bonus to pierce, but with fencer is very hard to use so petal is good even more now with the new stance, that would allow fencers to go full dex for a extra damage and so on, but by the end of it i still believe that for barb-fencer builds petal is a very logic choice, and the best one available.

Most people are saying to avoid pelt for now because of the incoming guardian change, which will make the 18% evasion from guardian attribute not so desirable, since you’ll be trading off a good % of your attack for it. Highlander offers Crown, which is very nice to deal with magic mob/players, cartar stroke which is a nice strike skills to have ( especially as charge time is[or will be] halved]. I don’t like SW2, but people tend to take it for better gungho/concentrate and restrain. If you still want to go to pelta for swash and 25% HP attribute, by no means you’ll gimp your build, you’ll just have a more ( lot more) situational guardian buff.

PS: Pelta’s swash makes grinding ***“faster”***, but is nowhere near mandatory for you to reach 280.

PS²: As far as skill distribution goes, your build is pretty fine, and @hienng1991 covered the only “change” i would make: no need to max cleave and reduce some points in attaque coquille considering you WILL be using venier, and save those points for c3.

Don’t parties discriminate swordsman based on whether they got Swashbuckling or not?

I heard that Cleave and Siesm is all that Fencers use late-game. But Frenzy also looks good.

Yeah, I thought about Venier too. That makes sense. Thank you for your advice!

I picked Pelt only for Swashbuckling. Worth?

But Mages ignore evasion, though. I don’t know what to do…

I see. I’m taking 1 in Guardian too, also.

Yeah, that’s the general advice I received… the thing is, already took Pelt 1, so I don’t feel like rerolling. What to do…

I see. Thank you. /20chars

I see, you are right in me needing to keep C3 in mind.

The troubling thing is, I already took Pelt 1. I’m hoping that I’ll get into more parties with me being able to SW. I could reroll, but I wouldn’t like it.

Mages are not the only class that exist in this game. (and you will lose to mages anyway, no matter what type of swordsman you are)
Now lets be real, fencers aren’t good at pvp and neither are barbarians. You’ll lose either way. You want be as good as cata c3, and you’ll probably lose to a good pvp archer build.
besides fencer is a class that benefits from dex. And a pve class.

It depends, a nice party will take you since normal PvE is much easier than ET. Warcry and Frenzy will boost your damage by a lot. Barb skills will fall of late game unless it’s Pouncing so Seism, Cleave and Helm will become utility skills rather than straight out damage

If you took Peltasta already, I would recommend Highlander2>Barbarian1 or Highlander3.
I already did a Sword1>Pelt1>Barb3>Fencer and became really disappointed by Barbarian.

With the Guardian changes, initially, I loathed the possibility of ever picking Peltasta again, but now, after some calculations, I see that Pelt is still very viable, but Barbarian is still a huge “no”.

I see. In your experience, by how much ratio should I increase dex by?

That is true. They are phased out in comparison to Fencer skills.
