Yeah he already explained it to me earlier… was just curious as I didn’t know about the rest of the add-ons.

This post was flagged by the community and is temporarily hidden.

They might name a few, like they did in the announcement; but they will leave it open ended like they did to CYOA.

Otherwise we’ll see a Archeage Addon 2.0 discussion and shitstorm.

Used some addons too…the map and table which shows experience gain details…I was not banned…

Yea that’s pretty much how I feel at this point haha. They are re investigating my account but who knows if I’ll hear anything from them or how long it will take.

They can’t state which addon is allowed. IMC’s reply is already very clear.

  1. Could you let us know which add-ons are allowed and which aren’t?

We have no plans on restricting add-ons that conveniently display information which can be obtained from external communities or between users.

However, we are sternly against add-ons that allow abnormal gameplay such as being able to use NPC stores on a field or an auto-play program. Those are prohibited and its user is liable to be banned.

The problem is an add-on can market itself as a legit, non-intrusive add-on gaining IMC’s endorsement first then after a few updates inject code which allow abnormal gameplay. This is something which IMC cannot police since they can’t spare manpower to sift through thousands of lines of codes created by other third party developers to find out what they do everyday. This is why IMC cannot come out and state which add-on is ok.

They can only say that what kind of functions they don’t allow.

It’s the responsibility of the users of such addons to vet them before use.

Luckily, with the addon manager being open source, it’s ridiculously easy to just look at the diffs whenever there’s an update to it or any addons. Malicious scripting going in “under the radar” as you describe is simply a lack of due diligence by the users.

Yeah. Being open source also means any user who download the add-on can open them in any text editor on their own machine and edit the codes. With that in mind it is even more difficult for IMC devs to say “Add-on X” is ok for them since every computer can potentially have a different version/custom iteration of the code.

Exactly… everything people have gotten banned for thus far is unfortunately functionality already accessible in the client. You could just as easily have used the developer console addon and written the offending commands manually.

It’s a lack of server side validation that is the ultimate problem.

you got 40 somethin diff addons in ur folder and you dont abuse addon/mods? i lol’ed R.I.P to that acct just start over

@Blubbolo dream on… I’m pretty sure IMC will not provide white list of approved add-ons as it is considered third party… They probably also want to avoid scenario where someone whine and cries because something bad happened to their account due to the use of add-ons.

Scenario:
- IMC approved add-ons released by Excrulon
- Excrulon hit his head and one day decided to join the dark side
- He then decided to insert malicious code in some of his add-ons
- Bang! after using the add-ons all your items went missing
- Later, someone found out that it was due to one of Excrulon’s add-on
- You then go blame IMC since those add-ons were approved by them

You can basically use any add-on as long as it is not abusive and does not promote abnormal gameplay.

You have got pretty much every Addon from the manager installed. Probably you also installed cwanywhere or cwscanner and at least tried it out.
Maybe you deleted it after you saw it working but nevertheless you used it.

You made a mistake - Accept it and deal with it.

I think the idea of IMC hosting usermade addons, that got analyzed and shown to have no malicious or unfair content, is a great idea.

Also, providing a clean and clear Lua API that makes clear guidelines what kind of things we can and are allowed to do would be very good.

If that’s the case then the market addon is clearly illegal, since it changes gameplay restrictions by purposefully bypassing the “get silver from sold items”-waiting time, which was put there by the developer for a reason.

Ok that angry kid spouting anger at everything is hilarious

Got the same here. 8 tickets already and they are still looking into it.

lol, nice one bud.

Anyway, they’re still “investigating” my account. I’m still certain I did nothing wrong and the fact that they didn’t just respond right away with something saying they aren’t changing their minds is somewhat promising I guess. We’ll just have to see where it goes, any in case 2/30 days down!

thing is, you agreed to all of this when you accepted their EULA upon registering. so why this now?
