I’ve deleted and remade 3 chars now that were around 80-100 in level (a wizard, cleric and swordsman respectively) because I wanted to just experiment with builds without looking up build guides off Google… it really didn’t upset me to reset, I was just sorta feeling that what I was doing wasn’t working that well and I thought of a better way to build the char, 2nd time around was going much better.
In all honesty once you start getting 50+, seeing the first dungeon and the zones after the church you can start to get a feeling for how efficient your build is, 100+ you start to really feel it. At first I was in agreement about people who made it to level 200+ and having to remake cuz suddenly the build is useless and I felt that that was a little insane but now I feel differently about it all together.
You should be able to determine long before you get into 200+ whether your build is working or not. You should be able to theorycraft and talk to other players in the game (it’s an MMO, talk to people lol) and get their opinions too and see how other people are building their chars. I’m somehow having a blast remaking chars and trying new builds in such a way that I wouldn’t have been able to enjoy if class resets were available.
It makes me feel like my choices matter more and it encourages me to take things more seriously so that I can compete and perform well later on and keep up with the content’s growing difficulty rather than mindlessly grinding to 200+ and suddenly, “Oh this build sucks lol” buys some TP “Ahh much better”.
Or am I really part of a dying breed of gamers who actually enjoy the accountability for my choices and having to actually think about what I’m doing with my character?
Although I do think if the company makes significant balance changes to the classes a reset should be offered to people who want it in this one case since you can’t plan ahead for dev class tweaks.
