Anyone has experience playing an Archer with (xbox360) Controller?

Hi there,

I’m creating a new character and would like to know if there is anyone that has experience playing an Archer with controller?

Important to know is I play the game for PVE mostly.
The targeting with controller is quite bad and you will often only be able to target mobs infront of bosses etc but I would like to know if there are any Archers out there that make it work, or if there are any classes specificly I should never pick while playing with controller.

Thanks in advance!

Edit: Thanks for all the replies! I will be making an Archer1>QS3> ? ? > SR3 the only remaining question is what to take as 5th rank, will I have to many skills for controller if I go for anothe class then Archer2?

I have a Steam Controller and still couldn’t get use to it. Keyboard for me.

Any ranged class will have hell with controller, IMC ■■■■■■ up the system when they released the game, on CBT we had better targeting than now.

Mouse mode sucks too

I haven’t tried it yet, only to interact with something bugged.

I play since the begining with 360 controller, and have no problem in PVE, in PVP is a Hell when a Necromancer with is army of summons are around, imposible to target the Necro, or when is full of pets and can’t target the players, some times the auto target make me waste important skills, but in general is fine, my main is Musket c2, snipe is hard to aim but in hide you have time to shoot in the right moment.

Played archer since closed beta with controller, the only part that is “inferior” is picking specific targets out from a crowd. Other than that it is a dream. Especially with moving while attacking, witch most people take for granted.

Moving while attacking with mouse is absolutely terrible and cramping my fingers on the arrow keys is not in my interests. Using the mouse for the UI and the controller for my toon has worked out great.

For reference I play schwarzer Reiter, scout c3, rogue. All of witch depend on constantly moving.

Thanks for the answers thusfar, to those who say controller sucks, sorry but I’m limited to this option due to problems with my wrists.

@merrieta01 Thanks for your answer! What other classes do you have besides Musket c2 and any of those have spells that are a no-go for controller?

@Locke34 Thanks for you in depth answer!

target locking helps a bit but mouse will prolly always be more accurate. have not really gotten used to switching targets with the right joystick thus far but it was useful the few times I did it. it always switches to a new target pretty fast as everything dies to running shot in a few hits. at least the controller is easier on my wrist. can’t tell if it is easier to cancel AA with controller or a mouse and keyboard because the game feels weird w/o playing on a controller. rip my razer naga.

Playing with controller (QS3 running and shooting all day long) and its perfect for me. Maybe 25 years of controller based video games playing has smth to do with it though 8(

Rarely there are problems with locking on, but kiting and jumping are definitely much more convenient to do with jpad.

And there are no problems with other 12 characters I have - whether it swordmans, mages or cleric. ToS is just so fluent with controller.

Now i will play a little devils advocate here and say that I recommend looking into what classes work better with M&K and better with mouse. Qs3-Sr3 doesn’t really have to aim and pick out specific targets. Just pew pew till it dies. Same with rogue and scout 3. Spam split arrow faster is more efficient than trying to get the joystick to cooperate, witch can be frustrating sometimes. So I specifically choose thoes two for that cuz I knew I was going to use Controller

If you were playing wagushi for example and needed to spread poison by attacking a specific target it might be frustrating. Where as playing a sapper doesn’t take much aiming at all imo( as far as I know. Feel free to correct me.)

I played every class with controller and it was very playable, you’ll just have some trouble while targetting, but you can move the right analog stick then lock and unlock the targer.

I used Logitech F710. It’s quite comfortable especially when I use QS3 running shot. But the targeting is not that great, so I switch to mouse and keyboard for better targeting.

Im a 277 Archer that switched to PS4 controller as soon as I made an archer. You pretty much sacrifice snappy targeting for smoother movement. I played mouse and keys for my wizard (cryo3/psycho). I still slightly prefer M&K for that char.

As someone mentioned above, target lock is your friend. Its pretty much the most reliable way to select targets, and admittedly, its a slower process than targeting with a mouse no matter how efficient you are at it. That aside i really enjoy controller and if they somehow made targeting a better process for controller it would undoubtedly be my favorite means of playing.``

Im using wired/wireless xbox 360 for my archer. It’s a matter of getting used to it specially for the multishot aiming . It’s fun to play “AFK” :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m using Xbox controller and i just had to live with the targeting on my linker & Archer. It is less tiring using a controller imo.

i like playing with my joystick , it is feel good

why is it that CBT the game seemed better but then went to shat?

i use a controller aiming in PVE isn’t that bad for me. but im mostly using Oblique… or R3 skills

With AoE skills you won’t see much problem, the skills you can charge also since you have control, but try use something like Wugung Gu or anything that require a focused monster, the aim go all over but never to the closest monster.
That also holds for Target Lock mode, supposedly, you can use the right stick to change target (same as TAB in keyb mode), but it never aim at the closest mob, unless you are in the middle of the mob taking heavy hits, even so, the aim go in the farther mob.

Sometimes it doesn’t even change targets, the system is buggy, as many others are.
