Am I the only one that's played an MMO before?

That’s a logical fallacy.

Didn’t they shut it down, redo it and rerelease it or something?

Yeah they actually had to do it… the launch was so bad that they were forced to shut the game down, rework it almost completely and re-release it months later

good launch or bad launch is subjective anyway and based on our own perception.
for me, TOS had a good launch, but for most people it was bad.

I totally agree with you. I am not a huge MMO player. The MMO I played for the longest are RO and FFXIV (whisper: and World of Tank :D). I played Blade and Soul and Tera for like 2 days and got tired of the quest. You pretty much just follow the ! on the map. No feeling of adventure.

I am really happy with ToS except the connectivity part. But like you said, it’s part of the initial problem with almost all MMO. I even don’t mind the trade restriction. It makes me feel like getting that rare item is more valuable because people can’t just get it for free from friends.

Oh well, people will just complain about anything.

most of us just report the bugs , when you report the bugs you are probabaly mad because it just happened to you. and when you are mad, you type out how u feel and post it. just a human thing.

This is how you play blade and soul:

  • create a character
  • bring that character at an high enough lvl to enter PvP Arena
  • do nothing else but PvP arena
  • keep the game on your PC only for the time when you feel like doing some PvP

:stuck_out_tongue:

Its weird right? And to whomever said gw2 had a good launch, um no. I was there, was it this bad? Eh kinda, not really.

This launch has been almost exactly what I expected. I made a post yesterday of how we are technically in early access (or thats what imc told us at first now it seems they have changed their minds or whatever but thats beside the point) so we should really be calming down a bit, getting fresh air etc.

I was called a white night defending their deplorable game. /shrug. I have a job and a family to raise now, I was able to play the first 2 days of launch quite a lot and a few hours here and there every day since. And I really cant see where all this anger and hatred is coming from.

Do I expect people to be dissappointed? Well yeah. But this is a VIDEO GAME people. If you are getting this stressed out over stuff you do in your spare time, than what is the state of the rest of your life?

The only thing that really irritated me so far was the dungeons being down for like 36 hours or whatever it was (sure seemed like itwas a day and a half Iif it wasnt). But at no point did I do anything other than go onto the forums and make sure they at least had a post about it up. And then find something else to do. Its not hard.

But saying all that. I do have to also add. If they had this much trouble starting up with only the paying cusomers, they really need to get their rears in gear and prepare WELL for the coming flood that will be the free to play crowd.

So far I must say I am loving the game, even with the money grubbing tactics set down I dont think they went overly far with the restrictions. With the ONE notable exception of the no 1v1 trading without a token. That one seems a bit much.

But I have to ask this one question.
What the hell was wrong with just a simple subscription based model? That goes out to ALL game companies.

Speaking as someone who played (and put up with the bad launch of) the beta, and as someone who originally spent $50 on the founder’s pack, and then got a refund and is hoping this game does better. The lag and the bugs are not what drove me away from this game, and predominately not what people are bitching about.

People are mad at very basic mechanics that are a fundamental part of every MMO getting locked behind a paywall or changed for no god damned good reason. Things like the ability to trade, and the completely horrible spawn rates. Lag will always get better over time, bugs will get worked out eventually, that’s how MMOs go. This one is a particularly bad one, and in my opinion consumers should not simply put up with these failures just because well other games failed at it too. However, that’s not the driving factor behind the majority of the anger directed at this game.

Guild Wars 2 had a very smooth launch. Probably the smoothest launch of an MMO of all time. The Secret World also had a smooth launch and relatively stable servers for playing (although there were many bugs and the chat servers were very unstable). From what I recall, DC Universe Online also had a fairly smooth launch. The Division launched with some issues for a few hours but mostly stabilized within a few hours. I am sure there are many others, but I can’t think of them or do not know of them.

But my point is that I think modern expectations are changing – and rightfully so. I still cannot even log in and play ToS. I have nothing to show for my founder’s pack. And that would be a bit more understandable and palatable if the game hadn’t already launched in South Korea. However, working out the network and server stability is a difficult process. It’s probably even more difficult given that IMC is a small studio and they’re probably not wanting to rush out to buy additional servers that they will end up not using in another month.

Theres no reason to say everything is wrong, say that the devs are useless, etc.

You see, nobody here is saying the game is perfect, we say that ppl complain like if this game was specially terrible, when is not.

As a game dev myself, i can tell you how hard making game is. If you want to ask question about it, feel free, but if you have no interest in knowing why launching games is so hard, and why is normal and not enterily devs fault that this happens, im here for you (though i have no exp in huge games like this.)

As someone touched on, modern expectations have changed a lot. It comes with the mindset of gaming preferences from MMOs to mobile and casual games. I have played MMORPGs in the Oldschool days, so that’s why I don’t have much of a modern mindset and it makes me more patient and understanding of the issues that some players have. So yeah, you’re not alone.

Only a few people complain about lag and bugs. Most of them are ignored, or some of the more patient players explain to them what’s up.

Only legit complaints are about the absurd restrictions. Complaints about technical problems (lag, fps drops…etc) should just be ignored for the most part at this point.

2004 hahahahah we’re on 2016 bro, and they had a lot of betas to fix all that sh***

meybe is because ppl like more the game idk

The only 100% perfect smooth MMO launch I ever experienced was the launch of Trion’s RIFT. From day one, no lag, no bugs, no fps issues.

Other than that most, if not all, mmo launches were horrible.

They need to fix the spawnrates and remove the trading restrictions …
If they do just that the game will be awesome.
My guess is they won’t though …

I feel really sad about your perspective. Play MMOs for 12 yrs and don’t know anything?

Lemme show you newbies real MMO EXPERIENCE.

First of all:

Tree of Savior project was announced in November 2009 by Kim Hakkyu and in Hangame EX 2011 they showed some ToS features as “Project R1” and was called as “Spiritual Successor of Ragnarok Online”.

In 2013 they made the first gameplay video that was showed on G-Star.

In 2014 they made the first official group test for ToS EXCLUSIVE Korean.

First IMC Games mistake:

They were not prepared for a major Outworld Population.

Second Point:

IMC Games has no right to make such shameful release because the games was being developed since 2009.

Third Point:

Fatal mistake: Too many rivals in the market will soon make this game a big piece of nothing. If people consider RO1 or RO2 better they will never hand over years of effort to risk in a new game. So the beginning is the MOST essential point of this MMO cuz if they ruin it they may lose a client FOREVER. IMC Games is making they clients fear to invest in the game from the very begin.

IMC Games in other side is the most LUCKY developer i saw in life. If i was in charge of Gravity Corp in the release of ToS i would have in hands a new expansion, new items, at least 3x XP and DROP bonuses and most have items in the CASH Shop PLUS discounts. All that into both RO1 and RO2 to crush IMC Games.

Now i cannot let you guys see the complaints in the forums as simple “hate” so lemme tell you guys something interesting:

While MOBAs like LOL exists MMORPGs will never be sucessful again because most MOBAs are:
Free from Boting
Free from Scam
Free from Hacking
Free from P2W system
GREATER client support system.

Did you guys ever heard about Dragomon Hunter? It’s one of the newest Aeria MMORPGs and it’s already dead from boting, scam activities and P2W in the very beginning. It EXPLODED with players looking for anime style online games but as you can see it’s useless if they don’t care about the game health.

What i’m trying to show to you guys is that the people you consider lame from complaining are the same ones that will make the game go forward for you. So accept differences and try to learn something from them because while RO1, RO2 and MOBAS live, they will always have a point to complain.

Quoted for truth.

With “all” I don’t mean all this server, but all game launches.

Also I’m not complaining about game features or bugs as I stated on a post above. I’m complaining about of the lack of communication from the staff, low capacity to handle events, no mitigation plans, etc. That demonstrates lack of professionalism. And I’m talking about the higher staff, no the one that shows here on forums.
