Am I the only one that's played an MMO before?

I’ve been playing MMOs for about 12 yrs, since RO1, and played many since then. Every single MMO I’ve ever played has had a horrible launch. Every game has a month or two of buggy, unplayable garbage left in it’s wake.

But for some reason, the fanbase of ToS is extra mad. I don’t get it? I paid $49 to buy World of Warcraft in 2004 and couldn’t play for the first MONTH due to lag and bugs.

Isn’t it par for the course? An Open Beta wouldn’t have fixed any of this – as soon as the game went live, the mass player rush would cause 90% of the bugs and lag the game has now.

To me, MMOs are a longhaul genre. I’ll be playing ToS for 3+ years (yes, it will be alive that long, despite all the anger.) and I understand that the first month will be horrible.

Are there other issues to fix? Yeah, gold spammers need to be filtered better, but WoW\EQ\RO\FFXI all had problems with these, too. The only real horrible mistake they’ve made are the trade restrictions, which are likely to be fixed\changed anyway.

I guess I’m weird for not being angry.

Well you see… the playerbase for ToS is very… specific.

We have mmos veteran coming mostly from RO that, like you and me, have seen many launchers and stuff… probably 25-30+ in age… and we get young kids coming for the cute graphic and the music… that’s mostly the reason why.

As far as i’m concerned i don’t really give a damn about lag, bugs etc since i know that with time they’ll be solved… my complaints are abour gamebreaking issues like trestricted trade or storage that will not be solved like a bug and will send away a Sh**load of new players while giving the game very bad reviews at the same time.

The ignorants aren’t going to accept your argument, they are coming to tell you that you are a white knight or a f@ggot.

If all things work bad, it doesn’t mean it’s all ok and we must be happy because all is bad.

It’s like see, a politician stealing, don’t complain it’s ok, all they do it.

Get out of the paradigm with a limited point of view.

It nos all working bad. Im agree with the topic, launching a mmo is really hard, all these problems we are passing throuhgt are really common, and at least IMC answers and give solutions.

Im just hope people expend enought money on ToS just to make this game an awesome one!

Having bugs it’s acceptable, also crashes, p2w, features restricted, etc maybe some can be fixed or discussed later, even lag.

But having chars trapped for the whole day without any answer by the staff is lack of professionalism.

Communication is the key to success.

Well were not mad per say. I’m disappointing they took away a basic feature and placed it behind paywall, i can’t really care less about bugs or lag because that’s just how mmo launches are, and will get fixed so i’m focusing my attention on bigger game flaws. I’ve played countless mmos and it always is like this on launch, laggy as all hell, servers crashing, quests not working the list goes on. But its rare to see big changes and restrictions like ToS has done from beta to live.

You’re not weird for not being mad, but i don’t think its surprising that some people are upset no. And people are rightly upset, because the product we were shown in the last beta isn’t the same as the one we are given now, and as a consumer one should be concerned. Beta testing is the last stage of testing, so its highly unusual to do such massive changes to a game like the trade restriction, the storage and mob spawn and density change.

it because only people that never met this problem with the launch before post on 4r, the other veterans like you and me don’t care and are busy doing something else while waiting for it to be fixed.

Look that politician is just stealing a bit, is not that bad…

Along my many years with MMORPG, i never saw a very popular MMORPG have no problem on its first launch. This include WoW, GW2, Diablo 3 and etc.

Are you really overextending that argument? Politics affects my life, ToS changes or problems affects my free time entertaiment. ABSOLUTLY not the same League.

Yes, you are the choose one.
You are neo
You are the TOP of the list
You are the master piece

Only joking.

What’s the difference? you are overextending the argument that all launches are bad…

I feel sad for you. You only played bad mmos then.
Gw2 have a good start.
Ff14 have a good start.

I believe those games had a much bigger budget and staff compared to this game. It makes a difference.

ESO had a horrible start for one, i actually havent starting playing during many game launches so thats the only example i have.

So are you saying developers and companies haven’t learned anything in 12 years?

FF14 good start?

FFXIV was so horrible on the release and TOS still on EA~OPB.

FF XIV did not have a good launch. If you’re referring to version 1.0 then you’re probably locked up in a padded room somewhere because 1.0 had probably the single worst launch in the history of any MMO. If it wasn’t published by SE and their massively deep pockets it would have been the shortest lived MMO in history.

As far as 2.0 goes, also not a smooth launch since the vast majority of players were unable to login to the game either on a main or an alt. You were instead greeted with this message: http://i68.tinypic.com/14vlagm.jpg

Even if you got into a queue you still most likely would see that message when your turn came and then you would have to start over.

Pretty much this.

Looking at the forum posts, you can tell them apart by a few details:

  1. Lenght of the post. Usually the pointless complaints range between 2 or 3 sentences.

  2. The use of censored words: somehow, even though most of their posts are barely comprehensible, they never fail to use those words.

  3. The posts are usually addressed at IMC directly: something like “fix this ■■■■!” or “give us back our money” and so on.

Please… give me permission to laugh my head off at this statement… FF14 had one of the worst launches in the history of videogames…
