Advice for Sapper Build?

Yo im looking into making a sapper as an alternate toon, really just an excuse to make a mergen that wasn’t Scout3-falc-mergen. (wanted more aoe)

Archer>Ranger>Sapper3>Rogue>Falc>Mergen

Or

Archer2>Sapper2>Rogue>Falcon>Mergen

Sapper 3 can be let go for another class at rank 6/7 depending on what would work best. Broom trap 10 is amazing but if there’s something else that can go there that’s the first thing to let go.

Also for sapper skills I really have no experience other than broom trap is the truth. Whats good to level? Stockades, punji etc. The rest of the build I have a firm understanding but I have never built a sapper before.

Also im assuming full dex with proper gear is the best route. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

With recent ktos sapper buff, sap3 is good(the sapper c3 broom trap attribute increase significant dmg boost). And beware that lastest ktos patch, they fixed capture unlimited

Im fine with capture really, my main concern was either going ArcherC2 or getting the 3rd rank in Sapper, This build is really Cooldown reliant and is going to be a pain to level at rank 6/7. Would it be better to get falconer early to help in grinding levels in parties or getting Broom trap 10 more important.

Also like I said I have no idea about what sapper skills besides broom trap are good, some advice for the skillbuild would be helpful.

Currently sapper is mostly just broom trap, most skill problem is low base dmg. Some sapper skillshave combo to do highdmg, but isn’t easy to use the combo.

Stockade a instant 3 hits with 2overheat , but need to use melee range the dmg isn’t much if you can make enemies walk over stockade multiple times(but if you team up with cryo3 your friend can snow roll enemies and walk overstockade multiple time)
Punji the dmg isn’t strong and kick make enemies scatter. This skill has combo to do really high dmg but the setting(kick big group enemie nowall/pavise or another narow place) , but hard to set the combo and the skill is easy to be interrupted.
Claymore dmg is decent(still can’t compete with R7-8 has limited targets and long cd
Collar bomb short range can’t explode if there is 1 enemy and if you don’t aim properly you miss.
Spike shooter decent dmg when combo with circling, but very long cd and long set up time.

The reason to go sap3 is for more broom trap dmg in the future when we got update to current ktos sapper buff
for more info you can check tampon thread
Eg.
[Broom Trap: Enhanced Firepower] attribute has been added○ Increases the damage of Broom Trap by 1.5 times○ Increases the Ash Wood material consumption to 4 ( Originally 3 )○ Requires Sapper Circle 3

You can also drop ranger1 to archer2 trade10%atk buff for10sec and feint+barrage for 25%crit and 5% more evade

I have an alt Ar2 Ranger Sapper2 Rogue Scout (haven’t reached r8 yet, Mergen probably) which is not strongest way to go but very fun to play with a lot of combos to play around. Just a few thoughts of mine for reference :

  • Broom trap is very good for mid game but will fall off eventually in late game content (at least in current iToS).
  • Stake stockades is your bread and butter for early questing and grinding.
  • Collar bomb is helpful if you use it correctly.
  • Punji with its bouncing damage attribute (sorry I don’t remember its name) is very fun to play around yet need set up time. I went alemeth grinding, used it with linked mobs and giggled at my party who went DAFUQQQQ at what they saw xD.
  • Another combo I love to use is Stake + Detornate trap when I need to deal with flying mobs. Detornate has a similar attribute to 2H bow, which deals extra damage to flying type.

R6 and 7 era will be somewhat hard because your damage cannot compete to others for sure. But for grinding it’s ok since 99% of the time your party will have a linker  .

Overall, sapper is fun to play. And with latest buffs in kToS, I believe Sapper 3 will be very strong even in late game content
