I see a point in disliking the standardized PVP system in an MMORPG (a game which is mostly about progressing your character/account).
And I also see a point in making a PVP arena less dependent with the player’s wealth.
But I must agree with the second submission, why:
-
“Dedication” and “progress” are not only measured by the equipment. There are still builds, skills, levels, stats, companions, consumables, attributes, etc.
Forbidding equipment means to have an upper limit, creating more chance for all players to be equally strong. It’s just a chance, the consequences are up to the players. And it’s good to always have limit so that the competitions shall be healthier.
Oh, and “player’s skill” can be considered dedication, too, no? The more they dedicate themselves into the arena instead of the PVE, the more “skill” they have. -
Arena might not be the only PVP system we have in the future. There might be GvG system. In GvG there might be no standardized equipment. This system would be perfect if one is to show off their grinding result because it is also measuring the wellness of a guild by the teamwork and the commitment of their members (in the term of helping each other to progress together and obtain the gears).
