Instead of having zones start off with 1 channel and go up from there they should have a minimum of, for example, 3.
This means that highly contested maps for grind will allow for more groups without needing for the channel to fill up. A good example of this is Royal Mausoleum, which atm has 4 lanterns that make for amazing party grind spots, but has way too many people looking to grind on it. Adding another channel or two would allow for up to 8, or 12 grinding parties to level there without needing to fill up the channels first.
Another point is that emptier channels seem to be easier on the lag, as well as the graphics, obviously. Having more channels means people with lower budget machines will have an option to avoid full channels.
Lastly, it seems like changing the channels can be useful to get around certain bugs every now and then. My friends and I got stuck after a cutscene in Crystal Mine and we were able to move once again by switching channels.
