Decided on a different shinobi build. ill just keep my current build posted incase any one new finds this thread and wants to comment.
The idea is nice but had a few flaws imo…
Crossguard wont trigger if you evade, which means youll need a low evade % and high str to block somewhat reliably - low evade and DoV will add on top of it, making it a very, very risky build.
If you have a support cleric with you all the time for revive and ress this build might be able to output good damage but you’ll need very good gear/gems to get a decent crit rate.
Thrust has a tiny hitbox which sucks for groups of mobs and it’s damage scaling really isn’t all that good (it sucks).
You’ll dearly miss 1 rank of pelt for the taunt (and if you get it, you’ll start to hate the fact that you can’t taunt with a 2h sword).
if you are going the way of 2 handed sword shinobi, skip the bunshin skill… it deals no damage in duels and gvg I had tried it myself… if you are thinking kunai + 5 clones here on iTOS for pvp you will be disappointed… (kunai + 5 clones on kTOS atleast works, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xmEblzRl5SA) if you are doing boss hunts/pve then kunai + 5 clones should do you good… and also, only 1 hand sword normal attacks are being copied by the clones… they will just watch you do your thing if you are wielding 2 handed swords…
I am a lvl 251 shinobi 2 handed sword by the way… here’s hoping the devs fix the bunshin bugs and compensate us for this…
i had heart something about 2h not working with them but I assumed it was an old beta bug, bc I had read a few other threads since that never mentioned it.
Guess you’ve saved me countless hours of grinding. Time to go reinvest a few of those hours rethinking my build lol
no probs mate… you can still be viable in pvp using 2 hand swords without the clones, invest in skill upgrades for mokuton, mijin and katon… mijin and katon having 8 - 9 secs worth of stealth each… also the root in mokuton is 8 secs. to help you land those heavy shots…
You should take points from Thrust to max Pain Barrier and get at least 1 point in Pommel Beat for some strike damage for your clones. It’s OK if your clones don’t auto attack with 2h sword because you’ll be spamming Thrust during CD.
As for PVP, that patch merge should hit in a couple weeks so let’s see what happens with Bunshin.
This is where I’m at right now, but I change my mind often. Like if I want points in crown or not, how many in gung ho, ect.
But I realized that bunshin or no bunshin I woudlnt be able to pvp without shinobi lol. And this game is fun, I have faith in its creators that itll get worked out eventually. And I don’t want to miss out on what I want just bc its not ready yet.
You have way too many points in Bash. Even lv1 Thrust with at least 50% attribute will do good damage with clones. You only want lv3 Bash for the knockdown. Also Wagon Wheel is not a good skill, not even worth 1 point imo cuz Bash does the same thing and there are much more useful skills for HL. No points in Sky Liner is questionable also. I mean that’s the sole reason you go HL2 is it not? You definitely want points in Crown as well, especially since you want to PVP at some point but it’s quite useful in PVE too.
hows this? I was thinking bash would be good to go for damage instead of just knockdown, since I would be going swordie 3 and potentially have clones. But if I’m going thrust wouldn’t it be better to go 15?
I was curious if you could charge cartar fully at like lvl 10-15 with muton active, then get hit and teleport onto the enemy, bind them and drop your cartar. Any idea about that?
pay no attention to the order of the classes or the points in lower lvl classes lol. It was easier for me to theorycraft like that
btw my thinking on skyliner is that a 1 hit skill wouldn’t scale well, and bc I’m going pure STR I thought double slash would be far better, since its multi hit with a built in high crit chance and also gets a bonus from bleeding. That logic led me to think skyliner was too inferior to put points into, but idk what its dmg feels like yet.
my thinking was that double slash and moulinet would be my main damage since they both have built in crit chances and I’m going pure STR. In the same way that hoplites can go STR because of their buff. I was also thinking of trying to max the dmg on wagon weel or bash so it would deal high dmg to combo with punish later on.
But like I said its all just theory crafting, I’m sure I have no idea what I’m doing lol
The thing with Bash and Thrust is that the damage scaling is terrible so most of the damage will actually come from attributes. Ideally if we were able to max Pain Barrier, Double Slash, Restrain, and still have enough points to max Bash and Thrust then sure why not. In reality the other skills are just far more effective so they need priority. Regarding Thrust vs Bash for clones; most enemies will eventually wear plate or leather so Thrust wins. Thrust also 0 CD, which is important for your limited Bunshin duration so another win for Thrust.
Same with Skyliner. Why have only 1 damage skill in Moulinet when you can have 2? Low CD, 3 overheats now and extra damage from bleeding foes, possibly 0 CD soon, compared to 1 hit from Wagon Wheel every 18 secs. Makes no sense to max WW and leave Skyliner at 0 when you look at it that way.
As for Cartar Stroke and Mokuton I have no idea. Seems like a good idea if you go up against a swordie or some archers but wizzies will just CC you which Mokuton won’t prevent.
thanks, I’ve read a lot of what you’re saying elsewhere too but I spend so much time theorycrafting that I end up forgetting the basics.
my build changes in my mind like 3 times in between every post lol. I’ve never gone far into swordsman so I’m still feeling around in the dark, I would have far fewer problems making cleric or wiz.
For not I’m thinking of going swordie3 HL3 Shinobi, and trying to get the maximum number of benefits that cant be outgrown my leveling, (pain barrier, shock, armor break, ect) that way hopefully a build that is less viable now might be more viable in the future when other peoples skills start falling off. But like everything else that’s all talk for right now. Which is why having fun is still my #1 priority XD

Had the same idea, unfortunately Moulinet doesnt work that way…
Double Slash gives you a flat 35% crit, so it works great with full str!
Moulinet (for some reason) gives you 65%(60?) more crit rating, not chance…
my friend said he thought they both work off crit rating, so its good news to hear that at least double slash is a flat percent. I’m not too worried since a lot of crit rate can be obtained by gems late game, and from what I hear that’s the only good gem effect to stack any way currently. When I do crit, ill hit like a truck XD
