I agree, it was a great decision and everyone profits in some way or another.
The ones who were malicious in their exploitation get punished too. It couldn’t have been handled better.
The ones who haven’t touched the game or have taken part of the exploit can’t play. Those did not get any profit.

It’s implied by their announcement that the punishments aren’t automatic but instead will be manual, so I’d be surprised if they banned someone for giving away one item for free.
