Working on a solo Monk, could use some advice

Have been doing some research for the past few days on what works, what doesn’t, stuff like that. I’ve managed to work out the basics of where I want to go but I’m not sure on some of the finer points of the build. I wasn’t in any of the closed beta’s so I have zero actual experience, just lots of theories and ideas based on what I’ve read. Monk seems to be the way I get pointed whenever I look for the best soloing setup so…here I am. Of course if you really think there’s a better soloer than Monk I’m all ears.

The first big question I have is stats: Pure strength? Str:Dex:Con? Str:Con? Maybe even Str:Dex? I have no idea here. The answer seems to be all over the place so some better ideas would be hugely appreciated. I can mess around with the skill build on my own, if I had to, but I really want to get stats right.

Now then, first things first for the skill build itself, I’ll likely be following the popular path of Cleric 1 > Priest 3 > Monk 3.

This is what I was starting with as my base: http://www.tosbase.com/tools/skill-simulator/build/k1wtfr8tj5/

Cleric seems fairly simple, priest is where I start to have some indecision. Heal, Revive, Stone Skin, Mass Heal, all spells for self preservation. These seem obvious. Sacrament has some element of survival with its bonus, but also damage, so nice. The harder part is finding a balance between blessing and aspersion. I think the normal 3 points is enough for a soloer if I level the bonuses for it, and having a single point in monstrance seems useful. Dump the rest into aspersion for defense and damage?

Monk is also a little off for me. Double punch is obvious, one inch punch seems good, bell for even more defense, the single point in hand knife for armor break sounds nice. I was a bit torn (you can see I didn’t even spend my last three points). Energy blast seems like a good idea for range, but then what? Palm for a little AoE? The coin flick and reflect armor seem worthless to me, but I could be wrong.

Any ideas? I hope I put enough thought into this to get some advice without coming off as the “tell me what to play while I give zero input” kind of posts.

Stat wise, it’s always Str-Con-Dex. How you divide/plan those stats is definitely up to you. Some would set a certain stat to 100 then throw everything to the other one.

Resurrection 5 is a must, since dying is not cheap and utterly a waste of time.

As for you monk skill, place 1 skill in palm strike for good mob control and probably inflicting bleeding ailment.

I see nothing wrong with the monk skills.

Aspersion and Golden Bell are seriously not needed if you get Safety Zone and Revive. Get Blessing and Palm Strike for more offense instead. Monk is better to optimize Healing and Evasion/Evading boss’s projectiles for “Defense”

You can use resurrection on yourself after you’re dead? Seemed like a silly power to use if you’re playing solo otherwise.

No. If you’re in a party of 5 and in a dungeon, wouldn’t it be a waste of time to respawn at the start point then walk 5 mins just to get murdered again?

In any case, you don’t have much of a choice since, you got extra points left and just tossing it to Resurrection is the best skill left

Thanks for the advice so far. I picked up my pack and got in game. So far been doing pure strength except for 1 con…kinda feels wasted right now, but I’m sure I’ll need some later. Ignoring Dex entirely until I start missing I think.

Also, Safety Wall is hilarious <3

So, question about a couple skills:

Aspersion: 0, 1, or Max? Not sure how good this will be, honestly.
Blessing: 3 or Max? There seems to be merit in both
Monstrance: 0, 1, or Max? In a strength build it seems rather worthless, but it’s likely I’ll need stats later. Not sure if I would be adding dex or con though, honestly.
Resurrection: 2 or max? For a solo it seems odd to max it, but it might be nice to have in groups for faster casting. 2 is obvious though for the synergy with revive.

Monstrance lv 1 for the dex boost

Resurrection max for more hp and what nots.
