well i’m wondering why gaming companies only ban account an ip adress only, and not also pc serial number??? is easy to change?? in windows is easy to get it , you just have to enter in de “wmic” in command , and then write “bios get serialnumber”
I don’t think it would be that simple honestly, if it was the case, there would be no bot in any mmorpg in the world and other game. Because there alway a way to get around everything.
^this
Afterall, The RMT industry is flourishing cause of people purchasing ign money with real money.
IMC probably didn’t think of that/Forgotten cause Koreans usually have ot register their social security numbers which are then linked ot their accounts in order to register and play any games.
Every mmorpg game there are always a number of botters and rmt service being published or advertised…
However, I for one can say that iToS botting and RMT is the worst i have met so far…and lets not bring the issues withingthe game
…which u can’t deny regardless of the amount of things the are trying to implement to solve it.
The thing is IMC bot handling solution is kinda of a joke to be honest… with no updates on the bot classifier and with a poor GM running around trying to ban them manually…and the snowdance majie situation…
One can just wonder how long it will last…

i know is not that simple, but thats whyi’m asking, from what i know,u can’t change pc serial number, so banning the pc serial number would mean that even if u change your ip and create another account u won’t be able to play from that pc.(this should decrease drastically the bot problem)
So i wish to know how can they go around that, thereis a way to change the serial number???(without buying another mpther board) or they hack the program directly to skyp that part??(that would mean they have truly bad security)
well basically thats what i want to know
You can pretty much create an emulator that will fake serial numbers, it is possible if the guy is good, which probably is.
They can also hack the BIOS (if it is stored there) and change it and redo it.
But the emulator is less of a hassle.
I honestly don’t know why some people are thinking it is hard to make an ip ban. The only problem is that the game would need to be build around ip’s. Minecraft for example >.> you can easily ban someone and the person can’t enter. Of course there are other ways, but you could even make something that detects that an ip is from “another way”, not that easy but anyway.
HWID bans are truly the god given bans and should be used for every game, a shame only some 2D online client has adapted it correctly.
They need banned from life imo via imprisonment for Terrorism.
well the only good solution i can think is that they required a credit card to register, even can register many accounts with 1 credit card, and ban credit card number and all accounts associated to it if you are caught boting or goldselling.
but obviously this will limit a lot of people to enter the game
That’s perfect, if we water board their computers we will win!
MAC address ban is possible. They’d be banning either the modem, router or specific device. There’s only so many devices they can get their hands on,especially if they’re trying to be efficient for RMT profit.
Banning without IP/MAC restriction is a waste of time.
MAC bans is literally as much of a joke as IP bans are to counter.
Any PC with 2 NICs can be setup as a router -> MAC spoofing
There is no effective way to keep a device off your server. In the end you’ll always be using data to identify a device, and data can always be spoofed.
@Wooooooooow router/modem ban is more complex to avoid than IP ban, and definitely better than simple account ban.
@dahdoczock Totally possible, of course. Not every cheater will go through the trouble and will take efficiency from their process if they do it for profit.
@Nukas “when there’s a will, there’s a way” but that does not invalidate basic IT security protocols, does it? What if your bank thought “well if they really want access to the storage, they’d get there anyway” and left all doors open at night?
Anyway… yeah I do agree bypassing any security measures is relatively easy for anyone with google and half a brain, and that the only real solutions involve identity verifications or credit card based registration, but implementing IP/MAC bans would at the very least reduce the profitability, efficiency of bots, and keep away most cheaters. Account ban is a joke for anyone who doesn’t care about their account.
You know there’s obviously the “stupid solution.” IMC can generate an ID file and store it on the PC on download, then database these ID files. If you embed it somewhere in the hidden custom files that control settings or what not, it should be quite difficult to notice unless someone is actively aware of it and gunning for it. Additionally, most programs opt not to remove custom files when uninstalled. So you can hide the ID file in this place for a long long time. Then banhammer these bots according to your own ID file.
From the botter’s side, all they would notice is that every time you get a ban, you have to do a clean install before you can play again. And that changing IP or MAC won’t help. So yea I guess they can then go looking for your ID file and try to tamper with it. But you know, “Build it better if you don’t want people getting inside (oh this step can be a challenge, oops).” ~Howard Finch.
