it is because of RO nostalgia. Iām 31, and a lot of people I knew on the game when I first started RO (when I was 19) were around my age. All my friends who play this game are from RO, and are in their late 20s.
Iām in my early 30s and nostalgia certainly plays the part but thereās also the fact that games like ToS are almost nonexistent on the todayās market. It certainly helps that the game uses high quality 2D sprites and assets. I would probably not even try the game if it wasnāt for that!
Well, the last time there was a competitor game to RO, the RO players attacked it as well. It would not surprise me in the least that the RO player base is the reason why MMO developers would rather compete with WoW over RO.
Theyāre not old theyāre seasoned.
Which game was that, boss? The faker game Aurora Blade? Or really old games like Oz or Flyff or RAN?
Xen Online, which was localized to Secret of the Solstice in North America.
Iād need to google that. I have heard of the game in passing but didnāt think of any relation to RO.
So let me get the gist of this, players from RO recognized competition on SotS and decided to zerg rush their forums, fansites, discussions, and troll everything because they donāt like the idea of another MMO competing on ROās niche, is that scenario correct?
In the beginning, yes. Over time the RO players eventually left it alone. Shame that it died out, though; it only managed to get out to 7 countries before it croaked. I think the developers were even more clueless about marketing than IMC, cause the game itself was really a better version of RO.
Okay, men, you know what that means. Itās time to come to the defense of our beloved game! I always knew those Renewal endgamer WoEers were gonna be the death of this game.
Seriously though, if any of you see any problem elements from that ācertain old-school gameā, flag them, then message a moderator if it persists.
@ZeroTigress Boss, think of it this way, if you do go here, you get hamsters offered to you to satisfy your appetite, and birds too. I heard felines like to eat those things.
Uh, okay⦠O_o Weāll see what happens in the next 6 months. Iām kind of back to working at Disneyland again, so I donāt know if Iāll be able to fit any TOS in between that and managing my guild in RO.
Ew, Disneyland. Iām gonna miss you, boss. Remember, donāt look at Mickey in the eye. Donāt stay close to the āItās a Small Worldā ride too long. Haunted mansion ride is full of breathable human ashes. If you remember these, you might not die after all and come out still half-sane.
A bunch of new-hires asked me questions after I told them Iāve worked at the resort before and all I could really tell them was āIāve seen things. Many thingsā¦ā So many smiles that will be turned upside down.
Now Iām intrigued. Like what?
good lord kid I was gaming while you were still swimming around in your dadāsā¦backpack.
the under 20 crowd usually play those adhd games like LoL or Dota2 or TF2, and now add in overwatch/battleborn to that.
That is a story⦠for another place and time.
Iām here because Iām sick of the modern trend for games where the only customization you have for your character is equipment choices.
Although this game is in many ways a step back from RO in terms of itemization, stats and general build choices, I felt like I needed something fresh as after years of playing RO it was just a repition of itself;
build sniper hunt cards+ money, build pvp char get x items, go x build, watch noobs cry in pvp. Grow bored of ppl crying sinx OP, make champ/pally, farm Ogloves. Make prof, watch more noobs cry. End up making friends with any other decent player, get bored from no challenge in pvp. leave. Take year long break, start new server and do same ā ā ā ā all over again.
And yes i played MR servers, prefer getting into pvp asap rather then grinding forever and never hitting cap.
Anyways Iām enjoying ToS. Thereās so many unique build choices and Iām having fun trying to find viable ones not in the meta.
