Still relevant, since as said above there is no better gloves / shoes with 2 socket slots.

Relevance of gem slots in gloves is really dependent on what class you are and whether you have good monster gems for gloves, because the regular color gem bonuses in gloves are really inconsequential. Boots at least get some very decent magic resist now, or alternatively evasion/hp which are both still good.
