In my opinion, RO.
Those who played it, knows it.
No matter how old the game is, its definitely bigger.
But i cant blame ToS, the game is in development yet.
Gotta wait more to see how much it will change.
RO was 4 years on beta before release…
ToS has been under dev for 2 years or so i think…so give it time.
as soon as tos got their own version of WOE, thats when ill fully rate what is the better game
I would say ToS has better gameplay of the content we have easily accessible vs the content of the same level RO has accessible.
That is to say the starting and early portion of ToS is much stronger then RO.
RO has you go through an academy, then hunt across a large field to look for some mobs and then you get to job change and… figure out what the hell to do from that point on. The large eventuality is either the person quits the game due to being purposeless, or they wind up getting into a group of players and working with them on their purposes or just to hang out (which is what kept me playing RO long enough to get an Arch Bishop).
ToS has you go through combat from the 2nd NPC on, has you engage a variety of both simple easy enemies as well as introduces you to quest bosses. You get the grip of the mechanics easily and the game gives you a good starting purpose that will help lead the way till you hit the branching point. You even get the background info on the game world itself easily in the game itself.
Unlike RO where I found that I learned most of the story of the game on the wiki. Majority of quests were simply collect some mob drops or kill some mobs.
Here we see largely the same, collect some stuff, kill some mobs, maybe kill a boss. Though there is room for future more complex quests to be put in, ones we need to find.
Well, ToS is a new game with a different context and obviously there will be some differences between both titles. Besides, Ragnarok is a game with years and years already in the market, they have had the time to refine all the annoying aspects of the game or screw it up (lately)… Regardless the issue, it is hard to compare 2 different games, with different game life cycles. When Ragnarok just came out, it was a good game, but it didn’t had as much content as ToS for example, and the variety of characters customization was non-existent. If we compare both games timelines, ToS is in a way better standing than ragnarok online.
In terms of gameplay, if we follow the timelines, ToS>Ragnarok.
P.S. I’ve played Ro for more than 10 years, I love the game, but I can’t take it’s side if we are not talking on equal grounds.
I’m gonna leave one of our adventures (“WoE’s 1.0”) From our guild in Ragnarok. Good times.
(If IMC games finds this post offensive, be my guest and delete it) <3
Kinda hard to judge just cause, RO was a point and click base of game in which this days, thousands of MMO are like that, heck you can even play Ro using mobile cause its a point and click game, as for ToS its a new breath of air in terms of MMO games this days, just cause either everyone copying Maple (2D) , WoW and RO/Diablo, games now are abit hard to find originality just cause everyone seems to copy each other
RO Renewal. /20chars
This was my question… Is Ro1 point a click better gameplay than Tos keyboard? Im not talking about which game has better game mechanic… Not about long cooldown etc…
I think you should put “Controller gameplay” or just “Playability”
because everyone has a different definition about gameplay due the “Gameshows/Gamesamples” called “Gameplays” on youtube.
Since RO as only one type of controls, always using the mouse, since more than a decade, and because ToS hasn’t been released yet (still in dev), you can say that RO > ToS for the point&click system (thanks to the tiles and the moving camera, that helps a lot).
But ToS has a modern version of RO’s gameplay, more up-to-date, even if it’s still far from being perfect right now.
…Sometimes (quite often actually), I really miss the spammable pots…
Ro.
it’s a masterpiece.
Played it 9 years ago.
Now, still playing it.
This masterpiece will never have a successor.
Modern version or innovative would be controlling the game with the mind, body or another easy control, ToS is a CHANGE based on OLD ways of controlling.
But they are working on it.
In latest developer Q&A Tree of Savior’s
Project Director Kim Seyong confirmed they were working on adding mouse
control to the classic style MMORPG. Originally the game is played with
keyboard only and mouse is only used in non-gameplay part. In the
future you will be able to play the game with mouse and keyboard. Below
is a video shows how the new control mechanic works.

Yeah me too, and spammable skills
And i think this is the post solution. You can close it now hahahahaha because RO gamecontroller system will be on ToS.

Honestly I only have one complaint with TOS when it comes to gameplay. With all its beauty it would have been nice to be able to rotate the camera.
Look, RO was cool and all, but I never thought the combat was where it shined.
- Thing
- Say
- Words
- You
Obviously, Ragnarok Online
(ToS might be 3 words but I’ll wait until the game is out and I play it longer than I have RO to compare them >o<)
Oh my gawd a grill !!! lets stalk her and heart all of her posts
On a serious note Ragnarok will stay the best game forever not for it’s content or gameplay but for the community - at least the EU one was awesome.
Omg, no wai. The heart system is lame. :[ Upvote downvote forever.
They removed angle rotation because of reason
From Tos blog.
All of them focused on reality so it was very hard to distinguish each game by just looking at screenshots. Instead of just showing characters’ backs, we wanted 3rd person point of view so that players can be more immersed into the game and since timing is crucial in this game, we thought quarter view fits well. That’s why we removed angle rotations. It was also easier to take a view around the characters.
They removed angle rotation because of reason tired_face
From Tos blog.
Q) What was the reason that TOS selected quarter view?
A) Back when our team was first formed to develop TOS, there were so many games out there which concentrated on new rendering technologies and detailed expressions. There were just so many of them.
Q) So quarter view was not just selected to reminisce about the old, classic games.
A) No. Classical designs are just methods and not our objective. To enhance visibility, we even removed angle rotations which were available in the earlier version. We wanted players to really immerse into their characters so as we develop the game, characters’ representations became more and more simple. Eyes, eyebrows, and lips of the characters in the earlier version were very detailed, but we kept modifying the characters so now characters’ eyes are more emphasized.
Way too early to tell, RO has been around for 10+ years and ToS isn’t even finished yet. Gameplay-wise I like both games, and content-wise ToS has the advantage of being new (and actually interesting) while RO has arguably one of the best GvG modes on any MMO, so both gameplay and content will make it for me.
… ToS looks way cuter though :v
