Which has better gameplay Tos or Ro1 to YOU?

Honestly I only have one complaint with TOS when it comes to gameplay. With all its beauty it would have been nice to be able to rotate the camera.

Look, RO was cool and all, but I never thought the combat was where it shined.

  1. Thing
  2. Say
  3. Words
  4. You

Obviously, Ragnarok Online

(ToS might be 3 words but I’ll wait until the game is out and I play it longer than I have RO to compare them >o<)

Oh my gawd a grill !!! lets stalk her and heart all of her posts

On a serious note Ragnarok will stay the best game forever not for it’s content or gameplay but for the community - at least the EU one was awesome.

Omg, no wai. The heart system is lame. :[ Upvote downvote forever.

They removed angle rotation because of reason

From Tos blog.

All of them focused on reality so it was very hard to distinguish each game by just looking at screenshots. Instead of just showing characters’ backs, we wanted 3rd person point of view so that players can be more immersed into the game and since timing is crucial in this game, we thought quarter view fits well. That’s why we removed angle rotations. It was also easier to take a view around the characters.

Q) What was the reason that TOS selected quarter view?
A) Back when our team was first formed to develop TOS, there were so many games out there which concentrated on new rendering technologies and detailed expressions. There were just so many of them. All of them focused on reality so it was very hard to distinguish each game by just looking at screenshots. Instead of just showing characters’ backs, we wanted 3rd person point of view so that players can be more immersed into the game and since timing is crucial in this game, we thought quarter view fits well. Q) So quarter view was not just selected to reminisce about the old, classic games.
A) No. Classical designs are just methods and not our objective. To enhance visibility, we even removed angle rotations which were available in the earlier version. We wanted players to really immerse into their characters so as we develop the game, characters’ representations became more and more simple. Eyes, eyebrows, and lips of the characters in the earlier version were very detailed, but we kept modifying the characters so now characters’ eyes are more emphasized.

Way too early to tell, RO has been around for 10+ years and ToS isn’t even finished yet. Gameplay-wise I like both games, and content-wise ToS has the advantage of being new (and actually interesting) while RO has arguably one of the best GvG modes on any MMO, so both gameplay and content will make it for me.

ToS looks way cuter though :v

If I were to pick between Point-&-Click versus a more engaging Gamepad gameplay, the engaging one is obviously the victor. But honestly, the comparison is really unjust. A more fair comparison is ToS version FFXI/FFXIV, since both game has the same battle mechanics with keyboard-&-mouse and/or gamepad. Both also have beautiful graphics, but FF has more time to develop and offers better quests with cutscenes, class build flexibility, and a ton of other features, making them wins easily.

While waiting for the next CBT, I will be playing Dragon Nest, Tera Rising, and Mabinogi. As you can tell, I prefer more action oriented gameplay.

I think what made RO’s gameplay good what the unique diversity of mobs you faced. They all were VERY well designed compared to every other MMO ever, so much that even to this day you can’t help but remember a good number if not the majority of them with little effort. Also the difficulty was batshit crazy, especially the bosses (incredibly fast paced killing machines), and I get the feeling ToS will not be that way.

I think what ToS offers instead is progression rather than challenge, which is completely fine by itself. The content in ToS will overshadow RO and offer you limitless ways to build your character.

Now you may not consider all of the above strictly “gameplay” issues, but it’s really what matters in my book.

Definetly ToS have better gameplay, specialy since it do support controller and the gameplay feel more fluid.

On a side note:

Its sad that many ppl here on forums, specialy when reviewing and discussing features, forget that the game still incomplete and you cant compare both games right now tbh, but since i played RO for a couple of years, yeah, that clunk moviment of RO is one of the things that pissed me off the most, specialy during lag spikes when you char just get stuck in place lol, it give me a frustrating feeling like my laptop freeze and i have to do a hard reset.

On the games you mentioned, your skills prevail, instead of “stats”. I’m not really excited about ToS anymore, since your archer could just “kneel” and autoattack forever in there grinding with no skill at all.

Kneeling Shot AFK farming only works before level what
70-100? Past that point you got mobs with enough health, enough attack power, and skills that let them butcher the stationary archer. Even when the Archer majorly outlevels the mobs but is still within the exp range.

Not to mention, if they did manage to bot without dying quickly then if they get to 1000 kills an hour the Grim Reaper spawns to kill them anyways.

ToS hands down has better controls. I liked playing Ragnarok but it still had terrible controls for a game in general. A lot of Online RPG games these days finally realizing having 12 hotkeys sucks, alot of stress on the hands. Do note you can still play ToS with similar old Ragnarok controls still which is alot better as well, and hotkeys are still available.

Just think of it more as squeal innovation. If you played Rangarok before you can play this off the back. Playing it still feels very similar even though u have jumping now and Controller support. It was a great choice making the game feel somewhat like a top down Zelda game.

Unfortunately there are still a lot of modern game still have the hotkey default to ‘1’ to ‘=’ number row. Luckily they allow you to remap those hotkey to be in a more comfortable positions.

Sadly, Mabinogi does not like you remap the hotkey bar, so you’re force to use ‘1’ to ‘=’, and ‘F1’ to ‘F12’ >_> The WASD movement they incorporate into the game is so buggy that it’s terrible. Luckily I have a Logitech G13 Gameboard, or I would have a hard time returning to the game to play with my friend.

RO’s hotkeys are way better than the current ToS hotkeys, however I’m assuming they will add the ability to change your hotkeys on ToS.

Hope so. People are talking about the controller being good and stuff. I really liked it. But man, i’m a keyboard guy. And its unplayable on the current keyboard.

If at least you could use “ASDW” to move, and skills on the mouse, would be less bad. Also with hotkeys just like any moba, would game the gameplay perfect.
We have to point and click, use just one or another.
I have used the controller and even with that i couldn’t stay away from the keyboard because many commands were for keyboard only.

Maybe because u had lagg?

So far in terms of gameplay I still see RO as superior since it had a better world and only quests that were meaningful.

But it’s still CBT, so who knows what might happen
