Where Does This Class Fit Endgame?

Besides going full CON and tanking, what does a Swordsman bring to an endgame group? The only utility most DPS Swordsmen have is Swashbuckling, and our DPS doesn’t seem to be remotely close to DPS Wizards or Archers who can sit at ranged and nuke entire screens of enemies. Just feeling a bit like I picked a bad class to DPS on.

Swordsman is the brawler role. Plenty of MMOs have melee dps. Typically they have to contend with the disadvantage of raid boss mechanics requiring a ton of movement that kills their rotation but if you play a game where you aren’t moving much more than the ranged dps or moving doesn’t kill your rotation then you’re fine as a melee. Ranged will outdamage you but ranged also suffers death easier.

Wizards in MMOs cannot cast spells while mobs are beating their face in. Any time there’s a ton of aggro, they’re forced to kite around for fear of death. The brawler, however, doesn’t have this problem. He can run up to mobs and DPS them in the face and survive a hit. Raiding MMOs this is typically not the case because bosses scale too heavily with epic gear available and so you use offtanks instead.

But in this game, your swordsman is an effective offtank even without a pure CON build. He can survive a mob or two and intercepts these enemies to keep them away from the squishier backline fighters. If you’re a build that’s just as squishy as an archer… well you’re probably not getting invited to groups.

I’m not professional, and people have different opinions. A bad thing for me is that swordsman are dependent of healers to be very offensive, just like in dungeons, and need the better equippement as possible to compete.
I already saw numerous videos of swordmans killing players one by one, but you can do that just when others give you back up, attacking or healing you. If you dont have a friend or team who you can always count, focus only on DEX or STR instead equal with CON is a bad ideia, because you do not will last much in battle.

Swordmans are attackes and blockers at the same time, and others classes are more vunerable, so swordmans can’t attack on huge areas, However they get more chance to survival in comparicion.
But specially:
Not to mention swordmans can run, what give they advantage to dodge skills who dont lock on your character.

Tell us what final class you want to do in the future.

I just don’t see why anyone would want a DPS Swordsman when they could get a full tank Swordsman and get Wizards, who have better damage and utility, or Archers, who have way better DPS. Do endgame groups run full DPS groups minus the Cleric? That would make having a DPS Swordsmen with Swashbuckling valuable.

edit: To reply to @kazamatenkai
I’m going S1>H3>D1>Dragoon or Shinobi

I don’t see any way of surviving hard content without a healer. They’re critical unless you dwarf the content so badly that you can potion yourself to victory. We have no way of healing ourselves naturally.

DPS highlanders have a ton of debuffs and crowd control to them. Barbarians I think lack any sort of group utility but are good AOE farmers. The stabby swordsmen have decent range to them and are tough to kill, they don’t need to run away from the healer like archers any time a mob gets near them.

If the tank could just AOE taunt everything and keep them on himself then swordsmen dps wouldn’t be so awesome. But that rarely ever happens. Unless your archer has ninja reflexes, taking a swordsmen to protect people while the tank is busy is helpful.

Thanks for the answer. Well, since I never I’m in PVP rounds, I only saw videos, I cant say to you.
What I can say is that in dungeons that I always play as healer, without the swordmans we have problems to clean all the rooms fast, even if they need more heal than others for being always in the front line, tankers or not.

I will do a monk, but my desire is to create a Shinobi, with focus on PVP.

Thanks for the replies. I’ll keep playing my Swordsman. I was just a bit frustrated with it and felt like other jobs could do ours better.

hay! cleric can dps too, i do more dmg than most swordsmen and wizards i see. not archers though, archers op
