Whats your opinion on a full tank swordsman based character?

Hi guys,
I am currently playing the beta and enjoying it. After trying clerc and barbarian I am leveling a tanky swordsman.I am currently lvl 73 and have done swordsman/peltasta/peltasts. I am aiming to do a 3rd peltasta then going to rodolero (or whatever the name is).
I am doing half strength half constitution build so I can do some stuff by myself.
My biggest question here is, should I put some DPS in there? Cause I have no problem tanking pack of mobs and bosses at the moment.

Hello. Im also currently trying a swordie/peltie/peltie/rodie/rodie thing. For DPS, unless you have access to a party, I really suggest to place STR for extra DPS. The High Guard specialty attribute (The one for umbo and rim) can deal fairly high damage. What pains me sometimes is that with a tank build, fighting bosses are a chore and end up being a long battle of attrition.

I suggest to keep CON at around 25-30 then place everything else on STR, or if you have good equips to compensate for STR, (Vubbe gloves, silver falchion etc.) full Dex.

I am actually playing solo but i will be in a party at the release of the game. But I think I will have to do some solo stuff sometimes.
My stats are actually 62 str 68 con 15 dex.

Something to add. My char’s 70 now and with the best equips my level can offer. I made a 30 con and 90 dex build and the rest to SPR.

Unless you have a golden falchion, the only thing good about it is the occasional dodge but my DPS suffered greatly. So yea, Str/Con for a longer while. 60 con for me is a bit too much, but then again, I haven’t encountered a field boss yet so I don’t know if 30 con and 7k hp is enough.

I am at 10k HP right now, but fights with boss are sooooo long that I sometimes finish with a few HP.
In have encountered a field boss, the one at the first floor of royal mausoleum construct chapel. I was cool with 10k, with some healers behind me. But even with like 30 people on it the fight was terribly long.

Full tank characters are not meant for solo.
On the other hand, if you play with a guild/friends and your playtime ALWAYS overlaps (so you don’t have to solo) a VERY tanky Swordie+peltasta x3+squire x2 in a full con or 2 CON 1 SPR build is a dream-team level support character. You can taunt (and withstand) any boss or a large pack of mobs, you can root them in place with Arrest, and you can provide repairs/weapon sharpening buff/food for the whole group.
But that kind of character is completely useless if you want to solo.

DEX/SPR with some CON is what I use for my tank.

Because no stat gives you straight up physical defense and you needa invest in SPR and/or INT for magical defense, most of your defense values are from levels and gearing. CON also gives you a LOT of HP per point so you can afford minimal investment and still have a sizeable HP pool.

DEX will give you evasion and make you dodge most hits, saving your armor durability and thus repair fees. It makes you super tanky because taking 0 damage is better than taking 5 damage. Not to mention high DEX lets you do OP damage off all the crits you will land.

SPR will give you more SP to use your skills and will add a little extra magic defense while its at it.

This build also assumes that A. You have a Peltasta somewhere in build with manual Block atribute and B. You will always have a shield.

OK so I played tonight and here are my feelings :
I had a hard time farming some levels from 75 to 79, cause quests were to high level and my DPS as a full tank character was not that good. I finally did all the quest in the ~80 lvl zone north of Klaipeda and with the lvl4 exp cards managed to get peltasta to circle 3.

Now my life is changed.

The butterfly attack has a high base damage, but more important, I leveled up the other circle 3 skill (the one that “might make lose armor” ). It applys an armor debuff 100% of the time. And it is huge. I tried on 2 different bosses and I had a +50% damage boost on auto attacks !
Plus I switched to a 1:1:1 build (str/con/dex) and I had some pretty nice critics with this buff around the 1600!! That is ■■■■■■■ huge !
I am sure I’ll quick get tot that lvl 90 and farm the dungeon.
