Whats the most eficient way to deal with Magic Damage (PVE wise)

Hi guys, please help me.

I’m in the lvl 300 range and suffering a lot with magic damage mobs.

I’m archer,so I’m using leather armor.

The monster on my lvl range that deals magic damage hurts me a lot. Like 3-5 hits i’m dead. Some quests require to fight 8-10 of these guys at the same time, which leads to constant and repetitive deaths.

Even mobs 100 lvls aboce me hurts me a lot (1k + hits sometimes).

So I started to search for the best options to deal with this without throwing my money in the trash.

The fact is that I didnt find any good sources that could help me decide what to do.

I have like 500 Magic Defense right now and aiming to use blue gems in the boots (2x 60 mag def). So i’ll be somewhere around 600 Magic Defense.

Still I dont think it’ll help.

I already saw people saying to forget about magic defense and focusing on HP. I’ll have 2 red gems on armor to help a little, but with 20 con I cant reach that much HP (around 20k I guess).

So, any other tip to deal with the amount of damage we take from magic atacks?

Is it worth investing on magic defense items?

You need at least 1500 mdef, preferable 2000, bracelets and necklaces give those, also as you said, Blue Gems on boots give you some too.

You don’t need to go specifically with Leather armor since you can’t dodge spells, either go plate against phys damage, or get cloth (except the gloves) to try to diminish the damage a bit more when dealing with magic.

#Suggestion:

Start getting some half decent gear from HGs, start with the Lv 170 ones (gear I meant), identify them, after you get some mdef close to 1000, start substituting them for Lv 220 gear, those will be your main gear for a while so you can try find the ones with 2 sockets from HGs.

Here is a list of the items and dungeons by Lv.

Some parts are in portuguese but you will find yourself easily on it.

As for the HGs locations, I think you already might know, but I will post here.

The most cost effective way is going to be getting a grynas set with blues in the boots and yellows in the top/bottom. It’s easily transferable to other characters and covers your bases pretty well on both def/mdef. Make sure you upgrade your necklace and bracelets too. I haven’t had any issues after the mob nerfs with +5 max peta, +5 sissels, and a gemmed grynas.

MDef more >= 1500, you will be safe til lv 330.

RIght now my Eq is:

Top: Eaglestar Leather (2 slots)
Botton: Virtov Leather (2 slots)
Boots: Eaglestar (2 slots)
Gloves: Eaglestar (2 slots)

Bracelets: 2x Kranto (68 mdef)
Amulet: Max Peta +3 (74 mdef)

I didnt slot any gem yet because I’m still deciding what to do

With that setup I’m close to 600 mdef.

I’m curious to know how can I triple that. I guess its possible as you guys are saying. 2 blue gems will increase 120 mdef. Still need 800-1000 to be safe.

I looked in the market, and the best mdef hair accessories gives 60 mdef. I dont know where else can I get so much mdef.

Can you help me with that?

…Nuaele Card

Shouldn’t that answer your question? You are using leather. Cloth has % magic damage reduction and generally has more mdef.

Consider also that you get a free 10% from enchanter mdef buffs, as well as an extra 10% mdef per rank - so what says it gives you only 60 mdef in actuality gives you more. I think 1500 is a very solid benchmark but it’s certainly not necessary.

Also, as the previous poster mentioned, leather is not very good in the first place when it comes to mitigating damage.

The main deal with leather was boosting Evasion, with some leather sets giving crazy amounts of Evasion so that you could dodge every melee attack, but you were still vulnerable to magic.

save the leahter set for the next patch. For now, using cloth set or mix cloth + Plate

Hi there!

Here’s what you’d generally want to aim for: 1000~1200 M.Def. A good way to know if you’re comfortable with what you have is if you can easily survive the onslaught of the mages in Inner Wall District 8:

Also take into account that if you’re fighting mobs that are more than 5 levels higher than your level, you will suffer a minor penalty… in most cases it’s negligible, but at higher differences it means instant death.

As others have mentioned, you get 10% more P+M.Def every rank up to 70%. This is always active and gets added as soon as you change ranks.

The example above is a non-shielded class. Geared with at least 2pcs Lv6 Blue Gems in shoes. +3 Terrallion (has 86 M.Def, granted this is pretty rare, but not that far off from Max Peta), +3 Phada (has 77 M.Def). Not wearing any M.Def headgears.

The highest enchant is 110 for both M and P.Def. You won’t generally see these on sale though. Not that you need it too much.

They also mentioned enchanter M.Def buffs from the shops at town. I’ve personally never needed them but judging from what they can do, I say they’re going to be useful to you.

I’m wearing 3x Cloth, 1 Leather with Lv50 Cloth Mastery (adds a flat amount of M.Def you would otherwise not get elsewhere).

At this point, if I wanted to get the damage down to 1, I would just wear 1 M.Def headgear and/or buy enchanter buffs.

Nuaele(s) are for when you want to push your M.Def to 2K+ without wearing a shield (with M.Def) or wearing any M.Def headgears.

TL:DR

Start with wearing more Cloth pieces (doesn’t have to be end-game gear or Best in Slot [BiS]). Get Cloth Mastery to Lv50 if you can.

Get at least two (2) pieces of Lv5 Blue Gems on your shoes (roasted of course).

EDIT 2:

Alternatively, if you’d like to be successful with Leather Set, you’d have to invest more straight up M.Def to keep the same incoming damage low.

Without any headgear (1005 M.Def, full leather):

Wearing a single +99 M.Def headgear:

Thanks, it was very helpfull

I didnt get cloth pieces yet because they seemed very underwhelming compared to leather at first look.

But i’ll give it a try.

That map (inner district 8) was the start of my pain. Questing here was very hard. I’m at Inner district 9 now and got stuck.

I’ll try to get cloth stuff and the attribute to see what I can get.

Thanks

No need to go for the attribute (unless you really need to). It gives you a whooping 25 mdef…

(25 * 0.7) + 25 = 42.5

(0.7 = 70% bonus at R8)

My math could be wrong here, but it’s definitely beneficial. The difference between Lv5 and Lv6 gem is just 10 M.Def yet people still go for every bit they could get. The same applies here because of % based modifiers.

Almost like equipping another Lv4 Blue Gem. It should get boosted further if the player decides to use Nuaele(s) - more % based modifiers and Enchanter buffs.

Hence the “unless you really need to”. Gem’s were easy before HG’s, now they’re really easy. Lv3 gems now drop so often and give 900 gem xp. That’s why people use lv6 instead of 5.

Anyway, OP doesn’t want to spend so much. If he’s buying the gems that’s a different story though.

Yup, I agree. That’s why I said:

Emphasis on [if you can].

He probably won’t be getting any M.Def headgears anytime soon. His priority for easy M.Def should still be 3 or 4 cloth pieces and Lv5+ Blue Gems in his shoes.

Most effective way?
Party or Hire a Sage or as well as a Linker-Sage :sunglasses:

which hg drops lvl 3 gems? sry i just returned from a long break and havent visited HG yet

210, you wanna farm the maidens (both for frags, gems, and the rifle). But other maps give gems too. I’ve recently made a home of the 5F cave because of the “convenient” mobs (no magic, no knock backs, no archers, no disabling status effects).
