What previous classes to take before alch?

I generally prefer not to have sorc for my alch build

but also be useful in grind parties

From what we know at R8 you’ill get a pet(not yet implemented) that can cast up to 4 spells that you know. The choices were limited from what was datamined, think basic spells no big cooldowns i.e. Hell Breath. And an alchemist attack spell that’s essentially an upgraded Energy Bolt.

As of this patch the obvious choice would have been Wiz3/Link2 and have your pet cast links and magic missiles as well. But we’re getting a rework on Joint Penalty which is the main skill of linker. That will make it so you can’t gib elites with Magic Missile / Joint penalty / Hangman’s knot.

Regardless of the rebalance linker is likely still going to be the most practical option for party play. Since even without Magic Missile having as great of a synergy with Links you’ill still be able to cast Joint Penalty and hangman’s knot twice as much which parties will still like.

So the practical choices will be between going with Wiz3/Link2 and having Quickcast attribute for 50% matk for your alchemist bolt. Or going Pry2/Link2 and getting double Flame Pillar for crowd control as well as double Joint Penalty and Hangman’s knot. Personally I like the idea of double Flame pillar.

Yea that’s my dilemma too. I wish alch got some more offensive options. That new skill + homun isn’t enough to deal with 330k hp mobs

Yeah it’s never going to be super peachy. But we know with good transcendence weapons players are breaking 2k matk. Like you can see here:

So even low rank spells that have very low bonus attack damage like Pryo can make a bit of a come back.

It’s going to be bad if you don’t get yourself some good equipment though… You’re going to be much more depending on equipment compared to everyone else.

Problem I have is that most alch builds available are optimized to get to lvl 224 as fast as possible

Now that alch 3 is coming, being usable in grind parties is now a must

Well… double joint penalty is probably about as usable as we can get. You’ill be no chrono… But at least you’ill be doing something. :disappointed_relieved:
