What gem to use on a High STR Hoplite

Good day,

What would be the best gem for a dual-wielding Hoplite with high STR and around 50 DEX only?

My thinking right now is to put all the red gems I can on both weapons since Finestra will most likely make me crit most of the time with 50 DEX. So that the red gem will be added before the crit multiplier. Or am I wrong here?

My other options are yellow gems since I’ll almost crit a lot, but seeing how much Lv.5 yellow gem adds to crit attack is very low.

I am not an expert an I may view things wrong right now, so can you guys help me out?

And also, if I slot a gem into an equipment, can I use this later if I extract it? This is the first time I’m dealing with gems in the game.

I’ve done some calculations and my conclusion was:

  • If you have a high crit rate (like 70%), yellow gems will give a higher dps

  • Otherwise, red gems will give a higher dps

  • Red gems can reach a higher non-crit damage and lower minimum crit damage while yellow gems have a higher minimum crit damage and lower maximum non-crit

  • Both red and yellow gems have the same power on maximum crit damage (except for lv 7, there yellow has a slight advantage)

So if your crit rate is like 40 - 60%, you can mix red and yellow gems to have a higher average dps.

Calculations done with Aufgowle bow at
+0, +5, +5 transcend 2, +5 trasncend 5 and +5 trasncend 10

(Again, based on my calculations without considering character’s crit attack and assuming 1170 pAtk without weapon, i can post the results if you want)

If you haven’t done your character yet I suggest you go full dex and use yellow gems main hand and reds at offhand. If you are already done with your character your only choice is to go full green gem. If your character is somewhere between start pumping all the points you get from now on to dex and go yellow main hand and green offhand.

Thanks for the inputs guys. My STR is still at around 50 and I could stop it at 60 then go back to DEX if that would be better and I’m open to all opinions.

But what I’m thinking is that will low STR get by on high block rate enemies? I encountered one monster on my high DEX archer and I think it was Hogma with shields, they almost block me 90% of the time and it’s very annoying. Even the skills gets blocked.

So do you think with my target 60 STR just for block penetration would be enough?

My target path also would be Swordsman C1> Peltasta C1> Hoplite C3 > Doppelsoldner > Dragoon. Is high DEX more beneficial? Also I would like to role play my swordsman as dual-wielding character with dagger off-hand.

Edit:

Forgot to add that if I have Lv.15 Finestra, will I need that much DEX just for crit rate? Since going DEX for the evasion also will be less efficient from my thinking because of Finestra’s reduction to evasion.

stop going more on str

get dex as many as u can then yellow gem

hogma shield have passive that block arrow

no matter how many str u have it’s still block alot

dagger isn’t worth, get good shield if u can

didel tower shield 2slot out damage arde dagger with cri

ledas shield is cheap and great to use pre220

dagger do nothing with your attack and skill (except 153fire from arde)

For maximum crit rate you need about 700 crit rate. Firnestra gives 150 which is helpful but not even close to the cap.

At lvl 330.

I see, that’s why my Archer got blocked most of the time. Do you think I wasted my 60 STR and should’ve went for DEX instead? And I have 30 CON by the way.

I see, so I need a lot of DEX eventually even with max Finestra.

A bit off topic, but can you give me a brief explanation of transcended gems? This is the first time I read it.

a bit of stat doesn’t matter

just get dex as much as u can from now (and some con if u dying)

hop get 150 from finestra anyway so it doesn’t strict as other swordman

Good thing then, I spend a lot of time in this character since I complete all Monster Kill on maps by the lowest map level available so that I won’t have to use my EXP Cards just yet. I’m at Lv.92.

Currently I have Arde Dagger, what shield do you suggest for around Lv.120-170 since Didel Shield is a long way to go for me.

Gems and transcendance doesnt have anything to do with eachother. Transcendance is basically a very expensive process that can increase a weapons attack by %550. When you have this much attack (about 8k) you stop caring about 900 extra damage you can get from str and go for crit. Since crit basically adds 1.5? multiplier to your damage.

Yes but their level decrease by one so you need to level your gems again.

or ledas shield (same effect with arde + def)

socket with red gem

pel1 have a lot benefit for shield user

Is that 50 total or 50 invested? If it’s 50 invested then that is a lot of DEX lost already. Take advantage of the levelup event for the free stat reset if you don’t want to reroll.

Sad to say it’s 50+ STR invested as per the Stat Viewer addon data. If even I’ll re-roll, would a high DEX Swordsman C1 > Peltasta C1 > Barbarian C3 > Doppelsoldner good? Because right now, somewhere in the back of my mind that Hoplite isn’t I really want. Since I’m quite new to the game and still getting what I really wanted to play.

What I want is something that can crit hard with skills swordsman class and can also play PvP somewhere along the way.

regardless if you reroll or not. Go as much points into Dex as possible.

50 STR is not too much waste, since it will give you some block penetration, that might help you in rank 8 content. but regardless, you can just compensate that by 1 green gem in off hand (shield works too) for crit rate and call it good.

Another option would be to get two sissel bracelets and that would work too.

50 lost dex will result into loss of about 60-65 crit rate. you want to get to around 600-650 to crit as much as possible (beyond is a waste right now)

I see, but if it was you and wanting the ideal build. Would you go full DEX until you hit the 600-650 crit rate? Because I’ve seen swordsman classes in videos having full DEX and they got past very high level without even investing in CON.

Sorry if I sound like a sissy asking so many question about wasted points or something like that. I’m the kind of guy that can’t sleep at night knowing I wasted a single point on something, not a good way of living life, but can’t help it. Hahahaha!

My dragoon is full dex, curently lvl 294. I have 24k hp.

How was it for you leveling? In my case, I don’t have any friends that play ToS so I play solo most of the time. What gets me is when a map has mobs that uses magic, having no CON and only DEX.
