What are you using or Better to have, rod or staff? And why?

I’m thinking to play wiz class buz I couldn’t decide what weapon is better? Any suggestion?

It depends on your build. Rod is better for more defense since you can equip a shield, and it also helps reduce cast times. Staff is better for more damage.

Go staff. This meta dps is king. It’s not like you will ever tank as a wizard

Also take into consideration that you can share a rod with some cleric builds.

Rod, because having a shield is nice.
I’m also a full-caster (Ele-RC-Myou), which makes the cast time reduction and some bonus defense so much more useful than extra matk.

Anvilling + socketing 2-handed weapons is also more painful of an rng experience when you take potential into account (2h’s 5 sockets and 9 potential; 1h’s 3 sockets and 8 potential, for savi…).

Rod + Shields

  • 1 Extra gem socket (also cheaper to open)
  • Physical defense from shield (up to 12k)
  • Ability to block attacks from having a shield equipped (-50% incoming damage)
  • Cheaper/easier to craft individually (no need to have shield and rod matching the same set)
  • More flexible equipment set transitions (not that common but helpful)
  • Legend grade gear enchantment consumes less resources (only endgame)
  • 4 Ichors (also only endgame)
  • 2 Awakenings
  • Access to attribute for -50% casting time
  • Both can be reused on other characters in case you don’t have a better option

Staff

  • About +2k MAtk (which can scale on considerable damage)
  • Specialized ichors (end game only)
  • Less weight

depends on your build Owo

though it is more versatile to be a rod+shield wiz at the cost of firepower

staff is when you’re confident enough that you can get them before they get you owO

i uuuh… have a wierd build owO;;

cryo - sorc - shadowmancer

the classes itselfe are specc’d at CON - SPR-INT respectively owO

so aside from the high con kontributed by cryo

you have sm’s hallucination and infernal shadow’s arts

there is also sorc’s riding

cryo’s subzero shield

and the default magic shield owO

can use all of them at the same time or interchangeably if you wanna maintain a defense buff for a long time owO

SM’s art only last for 10 sec though, but useful for bossse with 1 shot Owo
the cooldown is reasonable enough as well owO

Well I happen to have the highest PDEF of all my chars also on one of my wizards (cryo-kino-onmy)… which is using a cloth set. :haha:

Staff on my “glass cannon” (pyro) with Drakonas Lynnki (-10% casting) and leather set for maximum DPS.

And the 4ever update promises higher variation on 2h weapons, I hope they won’t forget about the Staff which still uses fixed attack value…

if you got good connection, low RTT, low ping, good at dodging go for 2h
2h also gonna get buffed soon with ornament
otherwise go for 1h+shield
for the 1h i love mace back then cause you can use it for swordie/cleric/wiz (although i never play a swordie)
you can use it for swordie all weapon skill, support cleric, patk cleric, matk cleric, wiz
the stats isnt that great but it has high reusability that reduce the cost of developing weapon for different characters
but if matk is your focus rod is better but reduce usability for patk cleric and less healing
you can use it for support cleric, matk cleric, and wiz
