We need to up the RO-ness levels

A lot of valid complaints coming from the forums and subreddit, on how this game is the “spiritual successor to Ragnarok Online” - yet it largely does not feel that way. I think I have some suggestions that might help? Hear me out.

  • The Chat window is atrocious. The text is too spared out, too large, and there is too much “other stuff” in a message, that even on 1920x1080 you can only fit a few messages on screen without having to expand your chat window to the point where it is crowding the screen too much. People with megaphones get this distractingly awful yellow backgrounded text with beveled edges, while those of us talking in general chat get this faintly colored unnoticeable grey/light-brown text color.

Suggestion: Simplify the chat window. No need for all these borders for messages, black borders for the window itself, and all of this wasted space for messages. Yeah font sizes should be changeable, but right now I can’t even have a conversation due to the horrible UI of the chat box.

  • Chatting itself is strangely oriented. I think if we’re all on the same map, our text should be readable by everyone on that map (referring to general chat).

Suggestion: Make general chat map-wide, not just within an unspecified locality around our character.

  • EXP-sharing should be map-wide as well. Remember in RO how you could be a designated buffer/healer and would be a nexus for your party who would go out and wreck stuff? You can’t do that right now because EXP sharing stops working seemingly the second your party mates are off screen. It’s one of the perks you get for being a designated healer/buffer in that you get to explore and manage your parties comfortability.

Suggestion: Make EXP-share map-wide instead of just within an unspecified locality around the character.

  • Let us zoom out more. The screen is locked in too closely to our characters. I want to look at more of the area when I’m playing.

Suggestion: Let us zoom out more.

That’s all I can think of right now. Ultimately I’m really enjoying the game  Its great. It just needs some slight tweaks to bring in that enhanced feeling of RO nostalgia that many of us are looking for.

I agree with the chat, larger team-exp radius and the extra zoom

Yep, I totally agree with this, nothing more to say.

Agree. Good suggestions

This game is not a successor to RO.

Agreed, its a spiritual successor, but dont expect the “ROiness” to come in hardcore, I doubt they wanna be a child of RO.
cough although with the amount of bots in right now im feeling very close to home cough

What really the exp sharing stops if your character is far away from everyone even if same map?

people joining dungeon queue and sit afk at the start to leech exp?

Yes, exp sharing stops if your character is away from people even if you’re on the same map. My wife and I were about 1.5 screen widths away from each other and the exp share stopped. It’s pretty limiting and restrictive…

As far as complaints about leeches, it really comes down to partying with people you trust won’t abuse the privilege, or at least having the freedom to leech if you’re in a party designed that way. Leveling so far seems to be a pretty smooth experience with the exception of this clunky exp-sharing radius that everyone needs to fall in for credit.

Screw RO.

There’s plenty of people here that don’t like RO at all, nor do they want ToS to become RO copy/paste with better graphics.

So you disagree with my suggestions because you do not like the suggestions, or you disagree with them because I recommend them on account of their successful implementation in RO - or you didn’t actually read anything, and are simply disagreeing on account of the title to the thread?

I don’t want map-wide experience share, because I don’t want large parties controlling the whole map.

It’s the worst cancer for any solo player.

I like the UI, I don’t want it changed.

Zooming out, whatever, don’t care.

Only thing I want that was probably available in RO, well in many mmorpgs really is power leveling and ONLY because ToS has so many levels, usually I’d be against power leveling.

Happy?

Stop trying to turn ToS into an inferior game, it needs to go forward, not backwards.

There are dozens of channels - why would it matter if a large party is controlling a particular map?

What do you like about the chat UI? How would my recommendations make it worse to you?

I don’t want map-wide experience, but at least 2 screens would be nice =)

If it’s a popular map, all channels will have a full party going on, don’t want it being controlled by a party. I mainly duo or solo.

I like the speech bubble border within the chat, so I don’t want that changed.

I don’t want general chat to be map-wide either, there should be a separate zone chat for that, if you’re insisting on something like that.

“RO-ness” you say? WoE like guild war:hospital::triangular_flag_on_post::sparkler::fireworks::crown::crown::bomb::hocho::ok_hand::+1::muscle::facepunch::v: ~ and other than regional server we need AIRSHIPS:rocket::airplane::helicopter:!:aerial_tramway::earth_asia: and SHIPS:sailboat::ship::rowing_man::speedboat::ocean::hotsprings:

Look, if the developers want to do things their way, let them. There’s a LOT of design choices I don’t agree with either, but it’s their game.

@Greensburg - Are you implying that we not provide suggestions for what we think would improve the game? As in, players are not devs, so stfu?

No, suggestions are fine, but don’t ask the developers to make their game similar to another.

Take the stupid megaphones out of the game! They serve no purpose but for silver spam bots and trolls. It’s the source of most of the lag.
