VGA error occurred after select characters

Just want to mention the condition I met so I am not going to fill up those unrelated information.

Firstly, I using MY laptop to login MY account. No matter which character I login, it will crash after finish loading the map.

I use MY laptop to login MY FRIEND’s account. No issue happened. Thus, this is not my laptop problem. So I thought it might be my account problem.

I called MY FRIEND to use his pc to login MY account. No issue happened and he can login and play there. So it is not my account problem either i think?

I read some threads said that some costume might crash the game as well. So, its not the issue either. Because I create new character also not able to login as well.

The VGA error only occurs when I login my character using my own account. This is really weird. In short:

  1. My pc -> my account = vga error
  2. My pc -> my friend’s account = doing good
  3. My friend’s pc -> my account = doing good

I dont think it is my files problem…yet i went verify files and update graphic driver but it does not solve the problem. Please look into this problem asap. Thanks.

I’m uninstalling and reinstalling I’ll let you know if that fixes it.

One thing I noticed is I keep reverifying 3 files every time after the crash.

Edit - Nope, fatal crash still happens when trying to load the map after login, even after fresh install.

same problem here… i’m trying the global fix i’ve discovered which is replacing tos folder with a backup i made fixed all problems i couldnt fix so far will update if it fixes it

YES IT WORKED :slight_smile: try it on yours good thing you have a friend you can copy the tree of savior folder from i believe its found in steam>steamapps>common just copy the folder and replace yours :slight_smile: hope it works for you guys too!

nonono reinstalling weirdly doesn’t work you must get a fresh tos folder XD think the person up the thread already tried that. And back then when I had problems with mine reinstalling didnt work too soooo try DLing on another computer and copying that folder onto yours then keep a back up of it just in case

been having this problem since yesterday… i’m trying to copy-paste the backup i have… however i am doing it part-by-part in the hopes that i’ll find where exactly the problem lies… i’ll try to get back to you guys

Please do. As of this morning I’m still getting the VGA crash.

Did you guys just copy/paste the entire TOS folder from steam or what? I’m guessing it’s the three files that are failing to verify that are the problem.

okay… so i tried doing it folder by folder in this pattern: copy > paste > run client

only when i paste-replaced the contents of the release folder (note: only the ones not inside the folders e.g. avicapture, bgm etc. were not copy pasted) did the VGA error stop.

the TOS client ‘patched’ pak files from August (my backup is dated last August) then it worked. now i’m not sure what specific files did the trick… but i’m speculating the “release revision” file mentioned in this notice

some more things that can be tested (if you guys wanted):

  • delete the release revision file, then see if steam can verify it and/or tos client can re-download it (better to cut the file, and paste it somewhere else)

  • change the content of the release revision file into another valid number (try checking the ipf files for numbers)


tho i still don’t receive silvers and cube tho :crying_cat_face:
and the disconnection is kinda recurring today

So my solution right now is delete the whole file uninstall and redownload the game ? @randomranter @wabajiga

Any way you can narrow it down? The Release folder is 3GB.

My release revision file shows the correct release so that’s not it.

I’m doing a clean install now after having deleted the entire Release folder so we’ll see if that helps will report back in a few hours.

EDIT - Fresh reinstall fixed the problem.
