Using VPN to bypass school Firewall

I heard that there is auto ban or something similar to that for steam.

But my school blocks games. I’m thinking of using a VPN to connect to a node inside my own country just to run steam to play ToS. But I’m not sure if there is a ban since my VPN’s IP and my IP is the same country. By right it shouldn’t be a problem but I’m not sure if they will check if you’re using it to bypass firewalls or reduce lag and ban you straight away.

U mean VAC system?
I used WTFast VPN to play CS:GO to reduce lag. I don’t know about other software, if ToS use VAC as their hack secure, u can do short research here: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7849-RADZ-6869

Don’t play games in school.

Having said that, changing your ip adress won’t do much if the school router blocks services related to gaming (i.e. steam).

I’m not gonna play in class. Just want to hang out in the school library cafe.

I know that Soft Ether VPN gate worked before but it was super laggy that I can’t even load my own inventory and it kept DCing. Trying to use Mudfish to do that but Mudfish can’t even bypass the firewall.

There’s stuff like VPN blocking.

What is your current access level? Can you see all websites? Can you play other games?

edit: ports required for steam traffic - if you admin closed these you’re pretty much f***ed

I’m not sure the access level. Student?

I can’t see clipconverter and the usual stuff piracy stuff school block.

Games are all blocked. Funnily Origin can still be run but the games can’t. Discord’s text channels work but the voice channels doesn’t.

Also I know VPN blocking exists (but not the details), but a free VPN like SoftEther works so I don’t think they did it.

Read my edit above please, if you’re in school contacting your admin is a bad idea, forget about that.

It sounds like various ports are closed and block traffic.

Yeah that makes sense. VPN Gate was working. I could download updates at a few kb per second lol but hey it worked.

So it means that VPN Gate was using ports that are allowed unlike Mudfish. So if I can just configure Mudfish to follow VPN Gate it should be fine?

Worth a try. All you need is an open port for your vpn traffic.

I doubt theres any kind of ban for VPN use, you wont be sending “weird” packets on the network, you are just tunneling your connection.

Your school firewall probably work on Whitelist mode (most safe one) which mean that will block everything (ports IPs and protocols) except the ones allowed by the network admin, the VPN simple will cover what you are connection with a tunnel, but if it will work on this kind of network is something i cant answer you.

The whistelist mode is especially true for US schools.

Honestly its the most trustworth one, blacklist work with all open and the admin add what it needs after, which cause the network be open for attacks and abuse.

ok thanks guys. Will try to figure out how to get it to work. hope you guys get your keys. cya.

I’m guessing it uses whitelist.

The only way for you to know if it work or no is trying it out the VPN connection. I wish you luck on that.

You need to use highly encrypted VPN connection to be secured, https://www.vpnanswers.com/best-vpns-bypassing-online-censorships-2017/ with encrypting your connection no one can detect your real IP and you will appear with different country address.
