Update on Savagery and how it works

Ok, saw some guys on stream talking in chinese about Barbarian’s Savagery skill. Streamer was a level 112 Barbarian and they sound like they know what they’re talking about. They have been translating Korean sites.
Savagery works on Stab attacks. Apparently the only weapons that have Stab as their auto-attacks are Spears.
Unfortunately, if you take Barbarian, you can’t take Hoplite as they’re both rank 3 so that currently only leaves Cataphract as the other way to wield Spears. Otherwise hopefully there will be advanced spear wielding hidden classes later on.
Also, the attribute “Savagery: Slash repeat” is only obtainable at Barbarian circle 3 so I guess this is reserved for advanced classes.
The attribute “Savagery: Critical occurrence” only boosts crit rate of Savagery by 15% at max (should be pretty obvious).
Hoplite’s Finestra skill still takes the cake - boosts crit rate by 39% at max level.

The attack types Slash, Stab, Pierce, Hit are VERY important in this game. Using the right and wrong types of attack on a particular enemy can mean the difference between doing ~70 damage and doing ~200 damage. That’s why people on streams change weapons sometimes. If you see Swordies with hammer + shield, this is why.

Disclaimer: The above is just from a conversation, may still be inaccurate. Don’t take it as official or anything.

Hope this helps with your planning.

P.S. They also mention during the CBT skills are tweaked on a constant basis if not on a daily basis and they keep changing, so bear that in mind

Thanks for the insight. Just didn’t realize they changed it from what was on the initial build of the skill builder on tosbase. I thought Savagery added an additional [Pierce] attack unto weapons (Sad to see that go considering Mages are still OP.).

So the skill is kinda pointless for my Corsair build I had then. Seems I’ll be making a Cataphract this beta or probably go Tanking route Hoplite > Centurion.

It could work if it’s possible to wield a spear and a dagger at the same time. Lol. Imagine triple hitting on auto attacks.

@SixPool: Well I might not be understanding the Corsair’s new skill Double Weapon Assault. But according to tos bases updated skill builder, it only allows you to can attack without delay with basic [Sword] attacks after a normal attack. So I don’t think that is a viable option anyway.

You can only wield a 1H spear if you’ve gone Hoplite before, and both Hoplite and Barbarian are rank 3. So what you’re thinking doesn’t work

Does this mean ONLY Cataphracts can use 2H spears?D: Since they don’t have the attribute to use 2H spears for other classes. That would be a bummer.

Yeah, they get the 2H spear mastery attribute

I would like to point out that the swordsman’s first skill “Thrust” has the stab attribute to it while the bash has the slash attribute to it.

It would be slow but this is what would allow you to get savagery stacks at the very least.

This is according to Tosbase’s skills webpage at least.

Right now in korean CBT savagery is a pointless skill.

It takes 1 attack and breaks it into 2 attack.

No additional damage. No additional on hit effects (the display claims double onhit effects, but on closer examination is wrong). Utterly pointless.

I hope they take a good look at this skill before live.

@lindseyds: If that’s how it works now then that is definitely a pointless skill lol. I’m definitely choosing something else than barbarian for my Corsair build.

This was during CBT3 I assume? Because during the CBT3 preview video I think they stated they were removing some of the “you need XXX item” requirement type things?

Also with the fact that Savagery splits one attack into two attacks, there might be some kind of combo/passive skill that increases damage on number of attacks to target? I don’t know, I can’t imagine why there would be a “useless” skill…

saved me from making a big mistake, thanks guys for the heads up :+1:

edit: wouldn’t the skill just make flange stack quicker?

You can learn an attribute that allows Savagery to work with slash.

Check Savagery: Slash Repeat at the bottom

As I said in my first post, Savagery: Slash Repeat is only available at circle 3, according to the streamer’s discussions with the viewers.

Which makes a dual wielding build with Barbarian less viable overall.

Which stream were you watching btw? And did the streamer also talk about how good Frenzy/Flange is?

I was watching a Taiwanese stream and they were all speaking/communicating in Mandarin.
Frenzy/Flange has been nerfed heaps, unless you can continuously swing your sword at the same enemy otherwise the damage just drops off. Most Barbarians in practice need to jump or dodge continuously so even swing 5 times on the same enemy continuously is very difficult.

A lot of the OP builds in CBT2 have been nerfed to oblivion, CBT3 requires you to really look into each skill in detail and work out a build this way. A big part of it is understanding which type of attack to use in which situation (Slash, Stab, Pierce, Hit) since Swordsmen have access to so many weapons and this separates the pros from the rest. The ones on stream that are willing to change their weapon in different situations are the ones that know what they’re doing.

they removed that attribute already
