Two swordsman builds--three questions!

I’ve been playing what I’ve been intending on going

Pelt->Hop->Cata3->Templar

and I’m quite happy with it at Cata2 so far, but I want to make a fencer of some sort as well. I like the idea of the Pelt2->Rode2->Fencer2 build, but I have a couple questions first.

1.) Regarding the fencer tank build, the two stickied guides seem to have differing opinions. Cathexis seems to suggest it’s garbage but Autentist says it’s the best “tank” in the game, as far as what the word actually means in Tree of Savior. Is there anyone who can sway me one way or the other? I really loved having a bigger swashbuckling from my ill-fated Peltasta 3 I rolled before and deleted, and magic damage REALLY hurts in the ~100+ dungeons, so slithering seems valuable, but I can understand if it really just isn’t worth it. I’m definitely open to doing a Pelt1->Core3 HL/Barb->Fencer build otherwise, just not preferable. Does it come down to the fencer tank just being harder to level but being more valuable in Earth Tower? Because I would be okay with that. Anyone who has done this specific build maybe?

2.) In the context of the fencertank, would it be worth it to take 1 corsair instead of 2 fencer for Jolly Roger? I’m already sacrificing a bit of damage for more utility, Jolly Roger seems like it would make me even more desirable in groups. Squire tempted me as well but it seems super not worth it, especially when you can’t repair party member’s gear in dungeons.

3.) Which of these builds should I actually sacrifice for Templar? The cata build seems like dragoon has much to offer it, moreso than a second rank of fencer on the second build, but I’m assuming the cata build would be better in any potential GvG scenarios which I assume I would want to play my Templar in. I was planning on the Fencer mostly for PvE usage, but I wouldn’t mind using it in PvP either particularly with the rodelero utility.

Sorry for being so long-winded, thank you for any responses or suggestions.

Why would tank fencer ever be garbage, he clearly doesn’t know its potential, you can block magic and phys damage and lunge 10 doubles your evasion rate, it’s too good to pass up.
Let’s be honest why go damage in the early ranks if your gonna use fencer skills that some have 0 cd and the rest have ~15 cd, your just not gonna use the barb and highlander skills because the cc from pelt and rodelero is better in the long run.
Better yet, people will want you in their party because of your cc and lvl 10 SB, that’ll make going to rank 6 to get fencer a breeze, by the time your fencer 2 you will hardly get hit.[quote=“lanyxstyle, post:1, topic:212434, full:true”]

Thanks, that’s mostly what I was thinking, but I also understand the argument that barb brings stuns, bonus crit, possibly even % slash damage soon even after its damage falls off and HL has a variety of status utility. It does feel like the higher rank SB and slithering(not to mention blinds and stuns) is going to still be valuable at higher levels, but I can’t say for sure being only level ~130 on my other swordsman.

As far as the build goes though, do you think Fencer2 is the best way to go? More evasion on lunge and a 0cd pierce attack definitely seem nice, but I wonder if a rank of Doppel or Corsair could be more worthwhile. I could see some synergy with deeds by allowing it to stack up and then using lunge & flanconnade to mitigate much of the defense penalty through evasion/block while dealing 50% more damage, and cyclone seems quite powerful and has synergy with lunge. Jolly roger seems like it would be really useful as well.

For now I think I will start working on the Pelt2->Rode2 part regardless.

Pelt rodelero dopp not so good because dopp needs a 2h sword up constantly, and works well with barb frenzy. Fencer is an ability caster class you don’t benefit from much from corsair And dopp, corsair is better with an auto attacking build so not fencer, and having the fencer skills rank2 is better than a rank in corsair.
