Tree Of Savior Review (Level 280), TL;DR Trash game

Hi all. After levelling an archer (ranger c3, fletcher c3) to 280, i’ve finally seen enough of the game to post a comprehensive review.

PROS

  1. IMC has been highly responsive towards community feedback and have implemented many measures that are much appreciated. Most notably regional servers for SEA, EU and SA.
  2. Artwork and sound design are brilliant. It is so good as to be intoxicating. I actually couldn’t bear to admit the game sucks ■■■■ for some time because I am deep in love with the artwork design.

CONS

  1. Gold selling / botting - Even before the game becomes f2p, gold sellers fueled by rampant botting is out of control. The influx of gold from these botters have artificially pushed prices of high level items and much needed materials out of control. This problem will only get far worse once these botters can create accounts for free. IMC’s daily ban is cute, but futile. As if this poorly optimized game needs more lag, the spam from gold sellers further pile on to this problem.

  2. This is an accessible / casual game - Just take a look around class forums to see the depth of discussion regarding game mechanics. Its obvious that this is a casual game that draws in stupid / lowly educated kids with its accessibility. Gameplay is about as challenging as Euro truck simulator.

  3. FPS optimization is a joke - Even with a rig that runs BF4 on ultra at butter smooth 60fps, I face fps issues in this ugly little game. The game engine coders for this game are about as incompetent as the game designers themselves.

  4. Monotonous gameplay. If i covered up the levels and damage numbers, you probably won’t be able to tell the difference between level 120 gameplay and level 280 gameplay. The game is the same at 280 as it is at 120. Current end-game content is Earth Tower, a dungeon as boring as all the other ones you’ve encountered and just as non-challenging.

  5. Quest storyline conceived with the maturity of an 8 year old - The lore of this game is a cringeworthy joke. Coming out of BnS, I expected Korean mmos to start churning out interesting quest storylines. Instead, we get this childish 8 year old fantasy garbage. Did the developer outsource the writing to his kid?

  6. Character equipment looks dull - Absolutely zero effort went into developing character equipment. The end game legendaries are called ‘Lolopanther’. The models of these ‘legendary’ items look like the same trash you’ve been wearing throughout the first 280 levels. You can be dressed in full legendary gear and nobody would notice if they don’t right click you. For a game that is all fluff, at least have throw in some fluff in the gear department.

  7. Bosses are a joke - What more can you expect when they throw in a couple of bosses in every zone. How much effort do you think they could’ve possibly put into boss mechanics? I do not remember the name of a single boss in any of the dungeons i’ve run. I could much less remember their abilities. I ■■■■ you not that all I did in ALL the boss fights was spam my skill rotation with blatant disregard for anything they threw at me.

  8. World bosses - World bossing is one of the core end-game contents. You can technically start hunting them at 170+ or even earlier but in a competitive server like mine, you get nowhere if you’re not in one of the 6 parties filled with 250 lvl + players. If you’re not a high damage burst build then the lag would pretty much render you irrelevant. It doesn’t matter if you have high single target dps, you need those dps to come in quick bursts from a few skills. Even if your party can reliably down these bosses and be in top 6 dps to get the cube, the whole experience feels like a nightmare due to the lagfest.

  9. Spawn rates are disgustingly low. In a game where death has near zero consequence, why have the developers chosen to set spawn rates at such dismal levels? Do you think that if more players started dying your game will not be casual enough to attract the lowest common denominator of gamers? Isn’t the whole point of a hack and slash mmo to enjoy hacking and slashing non stop through endless waves of monsters?

Overall, this is another trash Korean mmo that is riding on the success of Ragnarok Online and its wonderful art design.

Why bother leveling to 280 if its not your cup of tea?

Move on bro, lots of people including me really enjoy playing this game 270+

I agree with some of your points, also i think the classes are so much unbalanced
I agree that there are always better builds, but common, some are just stupid

Pic or it didn’t happen.

  1. if you have a good way to stop those gold sellers, botters…you can help IMC by telling them ur ideas. If not, live with it. You are not the only one living with botters right now. And I bet you’ve played enough online games to know that botters are hard to be stopped.

2)Contents still poor. But I bet ragnarok online had 3rd job when they came out, huh? Stfu and wait for updates.

3)From what I heard, they are doing something to make a better optimization. “Ugly little game”…lol. Play more BF4 you average kid.

4)What more do you expect from a MMORPG game? How about joining a guild and do guild war. Bet it will entertain you.

Provide pics to confirm that you are lv 280.

a dungeon as boring as all the other ones you’ve encountered and just as non-challenging.[/quote]

because you have managed to complete the 5 floors available? (7 Kr and 20 in total)

Okay, you’re just a child, returns to Wow.

Bye

Its funny that it took 280 levels and some of your money (to buy one of the Packs) just to end up like this, again, you and many others come, play and get disappointed on a game that is nowhere near completion, need balancing and optimization, because you and the others i pointed up there don’t have the gear to do a research about the current state of the game.

I won’t defend either side, since i know this game still lack lots of stuff to be ok, but you seem the type to go “Kirito Mode” for the most of part, i could be wrong tho, but if you haven’t had fun while playing with friends, then that is it.

If it is just to play for the sake of playing any game will be freaking boring.

Well, it is your opinion as many others have, good luck on your new endeavor.

NT, it’s pretty much the same thing. This style of gameplay doesn’t change much, if you think it does, you haven’t played many games at all.

Ok, let’'s settle down now white knights. The points he makes are basically true. The way he makes them is wrong but the statements are for the most part, correct.

The bots ARE out of control. I see it myself everyday. A few gets banned but many many others remain.

The game play is NOT a challenge. Its mindless and easy to understand. To be fair most of the forum questions are the same questions someone else asked a day before and information that is easy to find if you took the time to look for yourself.

The FPS is bad in any situation that involves more then a small handful of people. Its bad, everyone knows it, hates it… just tries to play anyway.

The game play “IS” the same for a majority of the game. You get a few new skills as you go but for the most part every zone is roughly the same, the story is easy to ignore and 90% of the game is just mindless grinding.

Everything he said is pretty much true… However it doesn’t stop people from enjoying the game. The average player who plays and enjoys this kind of game is okay with the standard MMO grind style of game. The bots suck, the fps issues suck but its not enough to stop people from enjoying the game.

What the REAL objective of his post and posts like it are based on fear of rejection. It’s a basic human response and we won’t go to badly into depth over it as I’d be here all day. To sum it up, OP is quitting the game and hence leaving a community. Leaving or being removed from a community is sociologically stressful so people will try to post broad sweeping statements in order to drum up support. Why? Because if people see and agree with the “OMG I quit” post then they may also leave and OP will not, in essence “be alone” anymore. He’ll belong to the community of people who quit.

Just think about how you felt in the past after leaving a community MMO game after playing it for weeks, months, years. Even if you don’t enjoy the game anymore it still leaves a odd sense of loss when you walk away.

Don’t rage at the OP, just accept that he’s trying to justify his own choices and let him vent.

Not as much pathetic and butthurt as you kid, i am not philosophizing anything, if you don’t want to take at least a comeback for your postings, then don’t post.

That is why i hate kids, can’t start a conversation without them get mad because someone don’t agree with them.

Well said, I don’t think you have played many games at all if you think this style of gameplay is all there is in an mmorpg.

You aren’t Lv 280 and you have no idea what you are talking bout

Calm down here son, just because you can’t articulate your thoughts well doesn’t mean you should start lashing out.

I agree with the OP on most of the points, even though he may sound rude and obnoxious with a hint of childishness.

THE BOTS ARE OUT OF CONTROL. I report at least 50 bots everyday and IMC only ban 10 of them. It’s pretty obvious they are understaffed and if this goes on, this game which has some potential will be a bot-land.

‘comprehensive’

Normally reviews that go in depth game wise don’t just smack-talk the game itself after you ‘suffered’ to play it through. This is quite honestly more of “How I feel about my experience”, and if you said that, you’d have legitimate space to complain to your heart’s content.

But nope.

Not that I’m protecting the forum’s relative flame starters, but you should always be prepared to defend your point on the internet. Especially on a populated game forum, where people will say otherwise. If you can’t handle that aspect, I’m surprised you’ve played MMOs entirely.

It’s an insult to casual game if you called ToS a casual game.

This game is not competitive nor casual, it’s just a broken game at the moment.

Points 1/3/4 are pretty accurate.

Not sure why you’re so salty about the game, get more hours out of 10/30/50 bucks for this game than you do out of regular single player games if you did actually play to 280.

based on THIS post, i can’t imagine why you feel you’re anything other than a perfect fit for the forums here.

Anybody saying that this game haven’t enough content or is monotonus is an idiot in my eyes.

Tell me 1 existing game that had so much content on an early access?
You can complain about mecanics, balance, bugs or bots, but the developer team made a colossus work about lvl design. Maps are beautifull, monsters has a big variety, there is a lot of different items (and a lot more to come).

About monotonous gameplay… We are on a hack’n’slash! Every hack’n’slash in the world is monotonous in a way, it’s the core of grinding games.
But for a hack’n’slash, you have a big variety of things to do: You have a hudge number of quests, you have instanced dugeons, you have daily quests, you have puzzle ridles, hidden quests, you have pvp / gvg (maybe not balanced at all and not totaly available, but you can still gvg with the tower wars). And you know what, there is a lot of things that aren’t in the game yet, we are on an early access!
When I was playing D3 all I was doing was making runs on the same map again and again, that’s what I call a monotonous game.

But OP still have good points:
The class balance is actualy terrible, the goldsellers are killing the economy, the fps optimisation sucks like hell (I have a high end cpu and I still have problems with fps… while i can run high graphics games with extra settings without any fps drop).

I think the bots will always be a problem, but for balance and fps optimisation, we can hope better days… At least if developers plan to make big GvG like war of emperiums in ro, they can’t let it in this state.
