Tree of Savior Portable

Stumbled upon a neat little gadget called GPD Win a week ago, instant buy the moment I read about it.

So, the device got delivered today and the 1st game I installed on it is ToS. :3

Really happy that ToS is able to run on this device. I was half expecting that it will slow down really badly due to the system’s specs but it does give around 20-30fps on average. It does lag when there are multiple players shooting off spells on the same screen though. (but even with high end computer specs it also lag)

Woah! That is so cool! I am seriously considering buying one of these things for all those times I can’t be bothered lugging my gaming laptop around.

The keyboard looks pretty small though, how hard is it to type on?

neat devices. i saw a kid playing final fantasy 14 on the BUS

Would be nice if you could set it up for dual OS to cater Android then setup game streaming from Windows to Android via WiFi for home use. This will allow you to utilize the full processing and rendering power of your PC, and lower power consumption and heat buildup on the device for longer playtime.

The demo on the vid above was set up on an Android phone with an Xbox controller (using touch works fine too), but the same idea more or less.

Still, 20-30 fps isn’t bad at all for TOS on a device that small. Having that integrated keyboard is also very convenient.

The keyboard is too small and it sucks. As long as you don’t use it for word processing, it’s fine. Just use the Xinput gamepad on the Win which works with TOS.

Another option is the GPD Pocket from the same company that has the specs but loses the gamepad for bigger keys.

i need on these beautifuil handhelf devices.

The keyboard are similar to those we find in the old blackberry / windows symbian phones. So most of the time we will use our thumbs to type on the keys. WPM will be drastically cut but it does fulfill its purpose when we need it on the go.

There are other alternatives too though, the screen is a touch screen so we can access a touch based keyboard similar to android. A better alternative, since the device is a full fledged “laptop” with bluetooth capabilities, just connect a blue tooth keyboard + mouse and we are good to go.

Actually for ToS, it is still very playable using keyboard mode using GPD Win due to its unique configuration. In the mouse input mode for GPD Win, the ABXY buttons (controller buttons on the right) are mapped to the arrow keys, so we can use them to move around and the keyboard keys will become our skill hotkeys. The only problem is it will take some getting use to, especially pressing diagonals.

Steam has a similar functionality where we can stream our game from one machine to another machine as long as both are locked into the same account (need to be on same network too?). Can do the same for this device too when at home :3

Oh no, an idea for necro farmers…
Im really impressed though.

Does this device use wi-fi exclusively or is it capable of getting 4G signal with a SIM card without the use of a third party smartphone?

Just wait till the PYRA comes out (the successor of the infamous PANDORA, the strongest handheld console when it came out some years ago) and buy yourself a PYRA. It should run just fine on that system, no need to buy something like that GPD which is a waste of money imo.

Uploaded a video on how the device runs when play in a party (Saalus Canyon run) and the fps in khaipeda chn1 (weekend crowd level, red)

@ridelith Currently GPD Win only comes with a dual band wifi (2.4/5ghz). Doesn’t support sim cards yet so it will need an external wifi provider (smart phone/mifi) to use.

@ReportofAusterity Pyra isn’t out yet?

Tree of Savior can run in all tablet with Windows:

The problem are the FPS Drops and setup in game, need put the minimun for play, but yes, is playable in GPD Win.

Nope, it’s preorderable, though. Quite expensive (around 630-750 Euros [720-860$]) if you want one capable of mobile network capabilities and 4 GB RAM, but it has SIM-card support and the important parts are exchangeable to easily upgrade your console once the parts get too old.

If it wasn’t for the high price, I’d have pre-ordered one already, maybe next year …

I have a Cube Mix plus tablet with a 7Y30 cpu (intel 615 GPU) and playing ToS doing Sales and 290 dung, the game works great with 30-60 fps all time, using graphic effects in low-middle.

Received questions on whether ToS is good enough to run with slow internet speeds over 3G/4G LTE networks while travelling around here and there. The answer is yes, ToS is a rather network friendly game and it runs fine under 3G networks. So yes, we can play ToS anywhere as a long as we have mobile data coverage.

Pardon the video orientation cuz taken from my mobile phone while travelling in the MRT/Subway. Played 2x saalus missions and did some farming during the ride but can’t really record due to me having 1 hand operating the phone and the other on the GPD.

Latency is dependent on network conditions though, so far I got around 100ms ±, with some fluctuations (upwards to 1000ms) when I’m in areas of low mobile network coverage or when the phone/mobile wifi switches towers. During these times you will see some rubberbanding.

Also on the question about feasibility of dual monitoring the game on the GPD Win, so that players can project the game display on a bigger display such as iPads/Tablets/Chromecast and such… the answer is no. The device just isn’t powerful enough to power ToS + power a second display without a significant drop in FPS.

I can barely get past the character selection screen using duet display. However, HDMI output to a TV/Monitor should be feasible though.
