Trade and Anti-Spam suggestions

I’ll Lean to @shiftahgraphics post, and would like to give ToS devs some suggestions about free trading in game.

as @shiftahgraphics said in his post, we should have an in game way to report spammers, but also to improve trading security and avoid gold sellers we could:

  • Have an in game captcha to avoid bots logging in automatically

  • Chat mute for those who spam the same message in global chat for more than 3 times.

  • Megaphone Cooldown. (3 charges every 2 mins for example).

  • In game button to use the global chat, which could have a mini captcha before letting people text. (a little drastic).

  • Prevent people from trading before a certain base level (50 for example, you can farm as much as u want but getting to level 50 without questing would require them too much time to be done).

  • Block Log ins from hidden IPs.

  • Automatic kick from the server after spamming the same message for more than 6 times could help too.

  • Adding a secondary password system at the character screen with numbers changing positions on the PAD could also reduce the automatic reconnection of bots.

  • As a last resort, totally remove global chat.

  • They supposedly have a Steam account to log in the game, banning the steam account could also be an option, even better if it’s worked out together with Valve.

Trading is an important mechanic in MMORPGS, it boosts the social part of the game and makes guild activities and party activities more intresting.
Having a game without a free way to trade means killing the game in its early days.
ToS is a newcome for now, but people will eventually get tired and could change their mind about putting up with unfair management. Let me know what you think about it and if you share my opinion please leave a like to let devs notice this post.

Have a good game everybody.

good ideas. i would do that if i was IMC. but knowing they even fail to help people transfer server or reset account i doubt they make that

Well if it can be usefull, there is a post about server change. They will give a free server change in the future towards the 2 new servers. Hope it helped you ^^ @simonlvschal. Anyway i hope they will give those ideas a chance.

i know about all that. but they still simply refuse to do quick fix with account reset and then give me the founder pack again

I get it… people want to ban bots but the suggestions so many people are making are just terrible.

  1. Bots can bypass captcha already. That doesn’t solve anything.
  2. RO tried this system, muting spammers with the same message. Guess what? Bots bypassed it by just added 1’s and 0’s or different letters at the end or their messages to get around this problem.
  3. Megaphone cooldown doesn’t make any sense… it stops 1 botter… it doesn’t stop the next 100 of them coming right after.
  4. In-game captcha is the worst idea anybody can propose. As stated before, bots can already bypass captcha. It just makes it annoying for normal players.
  5. Bots farm. They can get to level 10 in no time, therefore making a trade level restriction kind of pointless.
  6. Blocking log in’s from hidden IP’s doesn’t even make any sense at all. Some people are on VPN’s for privacy reasons. You’re literally also banning legit players because there’s no way to tell who’s a bot or who wants to keep themselves private.

All terrible suggestions. I’m for banning bots and wanting trading in-game but none of these suggestions people are making have any thought put into it.

No they aren’t. Just because people seem to come up with these same simple “solutions” over and over again doesn’t make them great. Nor it’s a good idea to create new threads without reading the ones made only one day earlier about the same topic. And not using the search function and reply on those previous threads doesn’t help getting these conversations anywhere or keep the forums tidy :expressionless:

I don’t mean we should become necromancers but I think people should consider threads active if the last reply was made only few days ago at least.

I got ninja’d by @varuna so it saves me the trouble of listing the reasons again. Thanks a bunch ^^

A cooldown on the megaphones would stop the “infinite” walls of text, at least. Albeit, i would make it shorter. Like, 3 messages every 30s. Low enough to not make it annoying for the normal user, and gives enough time to block those spammers before they try again.

@varuna You made a valid point on every suggestion but the megaphone CD one. It won’t stop the bot from spamming but it will make it less tedious. Megaphone CD is actually a pretty good idea, the others might be wrong or too simple but not that one. That could really reduce the wall texts and help people getting a chance to be read in the endless wall of spam which is the global chat nowadays.

@Don_Falce @smog-1991 Megaphone cool downs would do very little to help with this problem. When there are multiple dozens of active spam bots at the same time, the effect of single user’s cool down diminishes. And since they can farm megaphones by simply keeping their accounts online doing nothing, there wouldn’t be that much problems changing characters to spam another message while the other ones are on cool down.

You have to think fighting against multiple accounts at the same time, not individual ones if you want to come up with good solutions.

@varuna also the level restriction is a good idea, my lvl 10 was an example. make it lvl 50 and bye bye bots you can farm as much as you want but getting to level 50 in ToS without quests would require just too much time. Use your head guys! we can work it out together.

its good ideas u need a brain to understand them

And would you care to explain why they are good exactly? The reasons why they wouldn’t work and would be just waste of coding resources needed to fight the bugs are listed mostly on varuna’s reply.

I’m looking forward hearing your reasons since you luckily seem to be gifted with brain to understand this problem

You can’t win the fight versus bot sellers. You can just make it less tedious for the users and more annoying for the sellers.
And the aim of such a suggestion is that. It would still reduce the amount of messages being spammed (and the lag that comes with them) while not being annoying for the average user (and that’s important too, imho).

Maybe IMC is working with steam, to give a vac ban on them… Just maybe.

there are alot of reason why it would work well. for example there are different ways to make captcha. and muting options. not all games shares the same ways of doing them.

Megaphone cooldown would be good but it would also need to have a level limit like 50 minimum.

for that chat mute if the coders are good enough u can create a AI in the game that systematicly analyse the messages and based on a ton of feedback it would be able to judge if it was a gold spammer or not. however with IMC i doubt they have that skill but thats how i would combat some of it.

Putting a level limit on buying megaphones, putting a level limit on world chat, putting a level limit on using TP in general. there are alot of options based around Smog’s ideas it’s just how u view them.

while his ideas are not the best they can become the best if u do enough coding. but obviously fighting Bots is not easy but most of those gold sellers does not have the money or ways to make a good bot they normally have a crappy bot that is easily detected.

While Ip banning them doesnt really help but Mac adress ban them will force them to buy a new system…

seeing how the world chat (Shout specific) impacts Fps alot they really need a way to fight them before it becomes to bad.

And this actually good part wasn’t mentioned in his list of suggestions, while it is suggested multiple times before on previous threads. That’s why I find this new thread rather pointless spam. It adds nothing new and swamps previous active threads about the same topic, threads that already have more useful insight and comments.

That’s some IF right there. They could just as well use google’s DeepMind for that… if they had almost limitless resources available. AI experts aren’t exactly that cheap and they currently have more urgent problems for their coders to handle. Simple word filters wouldn’t work for obvious reasons already stated.

And where were these mentioned in his suggestions? I asked you to explain why opening post’s “solutions” were good. You claimed they were and you just need brain to understand while I said they were useless and easy to circumvent.

They remain bad only as long as no better ones are needed. These are usually coded by Chinese university students and similar people who are in need for easy extra cash and they are from countries where law enforcement won’t work properly. There’s also been news stories of corrupted officials using prison inmates for farming the game credits in mmos for their sites. So it’s pretty organized system that you can’t fight against with some poorly thought solutions.

That sure is foolproof solution. It’s not like you could change the Mac address itself for the device. At least for operating systems like android it used to be so simple that even I could do it myself. And I bet you can find some neat way to do it more efficiently for old PCs if you have know-how.
