Tips on How to play with a HEALER (Priest Perspective)

I’m currently a Monk 190, Cleric1,Priest3. I’d like everyone to know that our heals are NOT TARGETED and also require timing as well as a bit of skill (pertaining to MASS HEAL). You can’t simply tell us to heal you individually especially if you’re not tanking at all. For mass healing, I usually need to / would want to heal more than 2 of you because of the long cooldown so I’m about to go through the facts:

  • Healing is not a target spell

  • You need to step on Heal Blocks

  • Party must be in formation (When you know there are other low hp’s around you, you better try to stick with them)

  • A CROSS ABOVE YOUR HEAD means you are not going to die and instead be restored 30% HP + granted invincibility

  • DO NOT RUN AROUND IN CIRCLES UNNECESSARILY NOR ACCOMPANY IT WITH JUMPING (Ranged DPS)

  • A green square on the ground means it’s a SAFETY ZONE(10x Blocks) so ranged dps should try to dps from that zone especially when it’s positioned near the boss

  • We would prefer if you can be in front of us

  • If you DIE, WE CAN RESURRECT YOU.

I did not wish this to be a sub-rant post but people really need to get some points on how healers work in the scene. We really wish that non-healers do not tell us how to play our class.

And with Priest 3, your heals aren’t exactly going to be the saving grace for the team too.

I think REVIVE 5 and MASS HEAL 10 is a saving grace. What’s a better skill than that? HEAL 10? wth

you clearly did not get the point of the topic, as you can see you are almost invincible with Priest skills and you only pointed out how badly I can heal with HEAL 5.

I’ve observed that not many people know what Safety Zone does. In some cases i’ve seen, on low hp individuals, when safety zone is on/nearby them, they just chose to run in circles or hop around like bunnies… then they die :3

You are so right about that hahaha

I’m not sure what you’re trying to achieve with this topic, but I’m guessing it’s just a rant.

You can’t help someone who doesn’t want to be helped.

Solution: Let them die.

If they complain at you while being dead.

Solution: “Dead don’t talk.”

As a priest3pardoner2 I absolutely agree to this and even if I’m in my tank alt i try to coordinate with the party so they will not run around in circles making the healer stress more on where to put the heal tiles and missing mass heal.

I never got a party member who complained I dont heal correctly. I just lay down heal tiles and use mass heal when I/they need it.

When I safety zone and they don’t go in, thats up to them to decide.

We really need one for healers who spec into Cleric2 instead of priest too.

As a ranged, I would like to say these two facts are a bit off.

  1. Running around in circles =/= unnecessary. (Assuming it’s during boss battles) Some of us are used to it because we’re used to solo-ing bosses. It could be a habit since running around in circles usually means your auto-attack animation cancels, aka faster AA. Jumping helps with avoiding attacks, AoE or normal mob slashes. Jumping also helps the toon move slightly faster and away from damage.

  2. Safety Zone =/= 100% safety. I don’t know when your zone will fall. Also, knock-backs etc. still apply. Should it be better to risk getting hit when trying to get into the zone or to run around where you are less-likely to die because of lag-spikes, AoEs, etc?

You can’t really judge the scenario correctly sometimes and making such a general rule can be really misleading. Leave the bunnyhoppers alone and if they die, their fault and not yours. Being blamed has been the curse of healers for years.

Yeah i made a pure support cleric on orsha before i restarted in klaipeda, and I had this one swordie that yelled at me due to how I was healing, when if I didn’t do it that way she would have died. I learned my lesson cast heal squares to the sides if they aren’t smart enough to run to them its their own problem.

I appreciate your input in this. Well, I admit some scenarios would actually need you to jump/run around in circles that’s why I put ‘unnecessarily’. Not that I mean it’s unnecessary at all.

For safety zones, well at least you get no damage being in it rather than taking the risk outside of it.

If I would pick a Cleric2, I’d go diev class. Diev class can still go in sync with a priest and that would be awesome.

I just do it solo specially when farming mats/recipe wish you could just enter the dun alone. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-OtoP7uM-0

make cleric>priest3>chaplain and be OP

you can target heals you just need to learn

Yeah well… i was a cleric c3 and priest c2 almost c3 and i had the exact same problems with people making my efford useless a lot of times by jumping around like monkeys and going everyone their separate ways thus making it impossible to heal everyone.

But i was kind of glad actually because that made it a little harder to heal them… challenging

good post. while i agree with what you wrote i have to say that most healers in random partys for dungeons i had, acted as if each heal they cast costed them not mana but stat points instead…

rarely ever a heal even if half the party was on 50%hp and we approach a boss.

not all of course! also had many great healers who did a great job and kept the whole party alive even in hard bossfights with weird party combinations

I would just like to add:

  • If you are low on HP and see the Cleric running towards you, don’t run away from them! They are trying to heal you.

I can’t count the number of times I have had to chase people down just to place Heal tiles near them.

In fact, it is best to just stick around the Cleric if you are low on HP. That way they can immediately heal you once Heal comes off CD.

As a lvl 145 wiz let me contribute my experiences, just for a different perspective.

The many times I tried to make use of safety zone usually ended bad. By that I mean a good 90% of the time I ended up in a worse position - no matter whether it was because of knockback or the safety zone going down. Nearly dead already, running in circles seems to be the better option. (I don’t jump).

Having started playing tanks as my main character in MMO’s 15 years ago I’m rather familiar with the concept of running towards the healer or those who could potentially help instead of away from them. In this game, on the other hand, combat is so fast paced and very few people are aware of what’s going on with everyone… that the risk/reward of approaching someone and taking the chance with being hit again is much worse than simply getting out of harms way.

I understand this must be frustrating to you as you want to perform with optimum efficiency and do a good job as healer. As others have pointed out already - it is of course not your fault when people do what you would consider inappropriate. Now let me share the one thing that would actually help someone like me and it’s very simple.

One set of tiles outside the AOE range of the boss. That’s all. Somehow being able to heal up without having to enter the danger zone again would be all I, personally, hope for
