Hmm… For full Dex, I think glad is better, even more so since Mergen skills work better with more AOE ratio.
Hello Tiaa, thanks for your guide. I follow it because I accidentally have Archer3 and Scout1, and judging from the review in this forum, my choice is limited to Archer3 Scout3 Falcon1 Mergen… Yet I don’t want to have pet and Falconer (aside the cute costume) doesn’t look interesting. Your guide convince me to take Ranger.
However, since I’m not familiar in Archer class, and with ToS dev’s plan to change lot of things, I need your (or any person reading this) advice regarding Ranger’s skills. My Archer is high DEX build, and after take Ranger1 & Scout3, I will take Mergen and don’t have a plan to reset my stat.
ToS general change plan is: Critical Attack move to DEX, Critical Rate remove from stat, skills will be based on level & equipment rather than its base damage.
Steady Aim > I max it to 5.
Barrage: Fires 5 arrows forward in an arc in front of you.
I’m thinking to max it since it’s seems useful to kill enemies in group. However, based on video, Mergen’s Spread Shot is kinda same (Barrage have wider angle, maybe 45°? While Spread Shot is ± 22°. Both have 3 overheat) yet it fix to kill 6 targets. Does Barrage could shot more than 6? Is it worth to max Barrage?
High Anchoring: Aim with the tip of your arrow and penetrate through enemies in front of you.
The higher the level, the more damage and AoE Attack Ratio (Lv5 is +10 AoE Atk Ratio). What I grasp from the AoE Atk threads is that AoE Atk is useful to face enemy with higher AoE Def (correct me if I’m wrong). Does this skill better for PvP? Does enemies on higher map (300~) need to be killed with higher AoE Atk ratio?
Critical Shot: Fires an arrow with a high chance of critical at a target.
The Critical Rate is fixed at 62%. The old stat with high dex build may not need it (since Crit Rate is based on DEX), but with plan to erase Critical Rate from DEX, does this skill will be needed?
Going Ranger1 is a fine choice at endgame if you are not doing any content that require aoe. Example, for me I am only doing dailies and farming, both of these really do not need Falcon1. Hence, ranger1 benefit me much more in my situation.
The only issue without taking falcon1 is that you will lack of aoe. You may have a hard time grinding without Falcon1 at rank 7. But the good news is that there really isn’t a need to grind at open field anymore as Mission gives so much exp.
Moving on, if you are interested in having Ranger1 at rank 7, Barrage and Steady aim are the key skills you need to get.
Yup, Steady aim must be max. That is the key reason for going ranger1. It synergise well with multishot or split arrow and also with mergen’s 3 burst skills later on.
Lv1 or Lv5 barrage makes little difference at end game. Lv1 is slightly more sp-efficient in terms of damage per sp usage, while Lv5 has slightly more damage but consume abit more sp. You need to be really near range in order to hit all 5hits. Mergen’s spread shot is not the same as barrage. You can try having lv1 in Spread shot and see if you like it, but I really think that skill is pretty bugged.
High anchoring is optional, it does 1 hit only, but pushes a group of mobs away. However it will require some positioning. It will not push boss away, or some elite mobs which are resist to knockback. It is not relevant in pvp as its usefulness is too situational. It don’t do any damage either, so you can’t kill mobs at higher level map with this skill. It is good at low levels when you are facing a group of mobs, you can high anchoring -> knockback all the mobs -> charge multi-shot -> damage the mobs with multishot. I haven’t find any other use for it
Critical shot is not worth taking. Use Twin arrow instead when you are facing 1 mob.
Overall, with the major changes coming along the way, I believe building a build that can level easier will be better. Because rank reset + stats reset + skill reset will be given to every player to modify their builds when the changes come. You can change your “leveling” build to one you like later on.
Falcon1 will help leveling at open field as circling will give you the option of doing aoe with multi-shot. However, if you are only planning to do missions to level, then falcon1 has much lesser use. In that case, Ranger1 will be better.
Once you turned mergen, and if you feel like mergen skill suck without falcon for dungeon, do consider getting aoe atk ratio gear. 2x phada/ gladiator band, vubbe gauntlet and alchemist potion/squire food will get you 7 aar. This will make your mergen great again.
Thank you for the enlightenment :‘D (to be honest, I’m more a mage player). I forgot how playing style take a big part. The AoE Atk sure a problem huh… I will see what my current Ranger1 could do, and if it turns out to be harder, I guess I will need that future Reset Voucher :’)
Once again, thank you for your help.
A2 R1 Scout C3 Cannonner C2 is any good?
It is good. You should use Crossbow and Cannon, rather than Bow. Because the effects and gems of your weapon(or sub-weapon) will be included in both damage calculations when you use missile or cannon skills.
Great, thanks for the quick reply
I’m going 20 con rest dex…
I guess i’ll use yellow gems, right?
Another question…
What about Falconner > Hackapel?
Falcon for AoE and Hacka for atribute to enhance Split Arrow?
Yes, now yellow gems are still the best with dex builds. It might not be the same when the ktest changes come.
Falcon-Hacka is good, but if you go with Scout3, it will might be hard to stack arrows for your hacka skills. I am not sure if FlareShot can stack arrows for hacka or not. But overall, scout3-fal1-hacka it is a viable choice.
I’m not really worried about hacka skills…mostly because my main source of dmg will still be split arrow.
I’m just thinking about getting the sword as sub weapon passive to boost the dmg.
I’m just not sure it really raises the dmg enough to be worth.
it depend on your split arrow attribute too
you can see how much increase yellow gem give to your split arrow dmg in this video
in that video first he attack using blank aufgowle bow, and then inserted 2 lv 7 yellow gems
Hmm it is hard to say. You can have a 4-slot sword with red gems, this will boost your split arrow damage.
For crossbow/ bow, you may want red gems too. Split arrow scale better with red gems than yellow due to its bounced 200% damage calculation which exclude crit attack damage. Crit attack is only added after 200%. But yellow gems will allow all your skills (other than split arrow) to do more damage as a dex build
Then there is the last option to upgrade your crossbow/ bow and transcend it to very high levels to boost its base damage.
Therefore, it is really hard to say which option is the best.
I guess that for a farming build, cannon 2 will be better at clear speed.
Does that makes any sense? I never had a rank 8 archer before
Hmm. l think it depends on which map you are farming. If you are farming higher level mobs at rank8 maps, the extra burst of damage from cannon will be very helpful and will increase your clear speed. But if you are farming in lower level dungeon like 170, split arrow is sufficient and is faster because of 0cd and the ability to attack from afar.
I think I want something that can do both scenarios…I’m inclined to Hacka mostly because of the possibility to have 7 gems and a great boost to dmg. Also, i’ll be able to get another class at rank 7 (falcon, probably).
But ppl seems to not be very happy with hacka as it is now.
My problem on getting cannon is that on Silute server, theres few cannonners. Equipment is scarce and expensive. I’m afraid i’ll be poorly equiped and the pros of the class will not shine.
Thats a concern…its a hard decision for now.
@Tiaaa What build do you think can be good to clean the 170 dun now with the change of split arrow (5 overheat, 10 sec cd) ? Do you think scout 3 still will be good? I just feel will be not worth it
Archer3-Scout3-Falcon1-Mergen. At rank8 maps, use circling -> Mergen’s triple arrow & homing arrow, if you use fast enough, you can even do Multi shot once. While at lower level map, Split arrow is sufficient.
Lol. I am not sure why everyone so focus on the 10sec cd. Look at split arrow damage. Just need to find a rotation or even waiting it up might also be fine. I need to test with a geared scout3 to know if it is still viable.
Scout has less spam and stronger AoE burst due to stronger split arrow.
There’s also a special interaction/effect. Maybe someone will notice.
Vid of dung170
I’m a little interested in your build… I’ve wanted a Mergen since they were announced, but held off for perfections-sake (though… i went on hiatus in september, I was working on a wugu3-rogue1 into mergen and never finished it after coming back a month ago).
Do you enjoy your build? Is it fun, or just more of a “it gets the job done” sort of thing?
I tried Fletcher and I can’t say I really enjoy it’s lack of aoe…
In the current iTOS version, Scout3 is a farming build, split arrow is the best skill to farm lower level monsters, but not so effective against high hp monsters.
Scout3 lacks of aoe too. This is why the more preferred build is a3-scout3-falcon1-mergen. Using falcon’s circling to allow you to do aoe with multishot and mergen skills. If the player don’t plan to farm at high level map, there is really no need for falcon1 circling and aoe.
I enjoy my build very much. I was a A3-Scout3 in icbt2, and really it is the only archer build I enjoy even after testing various builds in ktos. The main concept which inspire me of my build was SPR Archer oblique shot back in icbt2 days (please don’t put any points into spr). Instead of spamming oblique shot, I craft my build to spam split arrow. At that time, I just see it as an upgraded version of the spr archer concept. I was interested of that build so I just went ahead and tried it. And I enjoyed alot back in icbt2.
I just chose A3-Sc3 when itos is launched. There were many patches for dungeon silver drops. Dun farming used to be 130, but then the silvers drop was nerf in both ktos and when itos is launched. So I chose scout3 really is because I know I will enjoy it not that I know if it will be viable or good later on. It just happen that dungeon silvers drop was buff later on together with 130 and 145, hence making scout3 to be viable in dungeon farming.
I really think that in tos, you need to craft a build that you will enjoy. Unless there is a content you want to focus heavily on, then you need the “meta” build that do well in that particular content.
Right now, with the upcoming major change, it is better to level up one of your character to the max instead of rerolling (unless you do not want to use archer class anymore). There will be class rank reset, stats reset and skill reset given out daily for a period of time when the patch comes. At that point, then you can test out every builds that you think you might like and settle on one of them.
