You have the touch to be a writter, was cool, but you forget Lord Demon Kim Hakkyu, sound better xD
Not sure but when did religion ever made sense?
Its fairytales written by humans who needed something to explain the unexplainable and create some sort of a guidline.
Everything created by humans has flaws (ToS is a good example for that
)
So what ever its a game its supposed to be fun not logical. Complain about important stuff.
No one cares.
Just a game.
Peace
I wish this game had a choice possibility, if I could, I would without a doubt join the demon lords and obliterate these cringy typical goddesses that got the princess Peach syndrome.
It’s so tiring that each quest involving a goddess is summed up by “Good, you’re here, now do your job because you’re supposed to, also I’m tired because reasons, save me, and I’ll just chill here while you save the world”.
Would be cool to be able to join the Tree of Truth or such orders again the goddesses.
I really want a choice possibility, like in the demon prison questline, I don’t want to use Hauberk’s soul like a coward and obey orders like a puppet, I’d like to bring down with him these goddesses.
You don’t have to save the world if you ignore quests leveling off dailies and events. That is still a choice.

Actually reminds me of Ringmasters from Flyff but not really.
do you have a TOO LONG DONT READ?
The quick summary is a bunch of false stuff and completely illogical jumps, he doesn’t understand the concept of game mechanics, and he’s trying to be mad about nothing. 2/10 since bothering to type that all out is worth 2 points.
I think OP, that a lot of the western mythologies just don’t jive very well with far eastern cultures or their methods of story telling (I’m overly specific here because Hindu gods are also broken as fuck). This is why they are generally very liberal with their interpretations of any western works, mythologies included.
And to some degree, I agree that dictating a story where everyone is ridiculously overpowered can be boring, but games of this nature (eastern MMOs) always tend to focus on the singular player as being the most powerful force, there are plenty of other examples in both MMOs and other eastern games. And these games all share a common thread of an antihero or a literal nobody rising up and gaining power over the course of their journey.
Western mythologies and pop culture retellings tend to either focus on how powerful external forces are, or whole armies/groups, and the player is usually a cog in the machine, or doing the bidding of the perceived higher power.
In short, let them take their liberal freedoms. It’s somewhat interesting to have a “higher power” as someone who’s virtually useless, though I think the “savior” trope is done to death in eastern MMOs. edit: and the goddesses being useless in this game gets old fast until very late in the game
Haha this reminds me - aren’t SRs more of a logical progression for Corsairs, perhaps a hidden class that can only be unlocked at Corsair C3? Sword MH + Gun.
Even Hackapells are more SR-like in terms of class design than SRs are in this game.
I can just imagine a solid build like Corsair C3 > SR (Hidden) > Hacka Cx (make swords as Hacka’s MH)
Leg Shot > Hook > Cavalry Charge > Storm Bolt + Skarphuggning > Hexen Dropper > Caracole > Pistol Shot > Retreat Shot / Limacon
Aem, where is this post about game mechanics?
And btw, I’m not mad about anything here, I’m just trying to underline my point of view as a part of feedback.
Maybe my POV is a little warped because I played RO before and I still think RO is superior in the most parts that matter, but I’m pretty sure I didn’t make up any “false stuff” as you called it.
And, how can a perception be false stuff anyway? This was posted in the feedback section, wasn’t it? The way like : Imagine/Research ->Percieve -> Feedback. I’m feeding back the way I percieved the world of TOS.
If I were to dig deeper into Lithuanian mythology and history, maybe I’d be able to find something amazing, and maybe this whole “calamity” of TOS is just an allegory of the paganic religion getting replaced slowly by Christianity during the late middle ages [which would explain why the demons suddenly appeared; according to wikipedia(not a very reliable source, but good for quick research on this topic), the concept of “demons” was introduced together with Christianity].
However, I could also become very disappointed if I was to find out that this isn’t the case, so for now, I’m not going to dig any deeper than this.
Thus, I’m aware that this is but a superficial approach on my side.
However, I still think that the religion and religious content shouldn’t be handled in a way that makes them seem so much inferior compared to atheistic lifestyle approaches, simply due to the fact that this game is based on Lithuanian mythology and gods& their interaction with humans inside the game are reality.
Being pitiful at best is not really how people are supposed to percieve gods, as this concept would be heavily disagreed with by intelligent people.
It’s most coherent with how Xenophanes of Kolophon [ Greek philosopher, ~570 B.c. -~470 B.C.] percieved his world, shifting from a polytheistic view of religion towards a monotheistic approach [with attributes of god similar to the attributes of the Christian god, being immovable, omnipresent, spiritual and omnipotent].
For him, it wasn’t the gods who created the humans, but the humans who created their polytheistic pantheon, while giving their “gods” all the bad traits that humans tend to have, together with a human appearance.
But maybe that’s just another coincidental similarity and I’m just blinded by growing up in a monotheistic Christian world with an educational focus towards Romano-Greek religious conception & philosophy.
Would be interesting to know how a Hindu or religious Shintoist percieves this approach towards religion/religious aspects and mythology.
They would just brush it off as work of fiction and will not be taking over their belief in real life. Religion and mythology is not the same thats why. It’s very common to see in games where mythology gods were treated as weak or in derogatory situations.
if you practice Christian life you musnt feel inferior over work of fiction. God > work of man in your religion.
Who’s gonna give me my 38 stat points?
Most of what you said can be explained by “it’s a video game and they wanted to have a standard RPG video game progression.”
My perception is you’re trolling, so you’re saying that’s not false.
You just ridiculed ancient Greek religion.
Also,
The story isn’t finished yet, but this copy of the part about Prometheus is a likely possibility.
1% of the game ?
Launch RO, try to kill a zombie, get ra… by 5 familiars while you can’t do nothing as a poor job1. Return to ToS, smash everything.
I used to like RO, but now if you try to play RO and ToS at the same time, obviously you see which game is better if you keep in mind ToS is more in a beta state than a finished game.
That’s the choice to make if you want 38 stat points or to let the world burn.
IS this a SJW thread?
I agree with this.
Some elements in TOS are a direct improvement of what RO had.
RO didn’t even have hp bars on monsters (this is before, i don’t know now), including bosses. Imagine how hard it is to estimate the bosses hp considering that some of them can even heal.
If TOS isn’t newbie friendly, wait til you get instantly destroyed by monsters and even bosses summoned thru dead branch and bloody branch at the maps adjacent to towns aka newbie maps.
I could go on and on, but maybe some other time.
As for the topic, i’ll say again that most games have ridiculous stories and have many plotholes. RO is no exception.
Do keep in mind that many things in RO are Catholic themed - from the churches to the many of the classes’ skills. The catch is that, if you think about it, there really shouldn’t be anything Christian-related in this pagan Norse mythology themed game.
It was also ironic that the Royal Guards, the next progression for the crusader class, also a user of ‘holy’ skills, were actually a bunch of people loyal to a king who succumbed to darkness.
The ‘expansion’ maps are somewhat erratic as well. These maps are commonly the travel-by-sea part of RO and are modeled from real-life locations on Earth. i could only vouch for some. An example is Port Malaya. It was fashioned after Philippines. The setting is Hispanic-slash-tribal, which does go well. The part that doesn’t fit in is the jeepneys - 4-wheeled vehicles common in the country. And this vehicles only appeared waaaaaaaaay long after the Hispanic period.
This is a common faulty game logic, but i still went on, and enjoyed whatever quests and features it had.
Do note that i do not intend on flaming or discrediting or completely disagreeing, just wanted to share some experiences.
i find this thread very entertaining and informative as well.
